Scrolling through dog adverts and I came across this

www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/2942042-visual-fluffys-french-bulldog-kc-puppies-bedlington.html#

Is this a joke or a typo? The description says it’s a very very rare kind of dog, but seriously?

YANBU - ridiculous price for a dog ?

YABU- This dog is worth it?
@Notworking123 Hardly! Talented, high level competition horses can go for much much more than that!
Agreed! She got a bargain! Most are £30k plus if they are going advanced! Smile

Tumbleweed101 · 10/01/2021 23:44

Much as I love my dog I'm very glad I got him before Covid-19 appeared as I most certainly couldn't afford current prices for puppies! And yes, I do know the commitment and everything else that goes with dog ownership. I just can't afford current asking prices for pups. Mine was just under £1K at the time and very much top of my limit of affordability but I'd saved and planned for him. As a lower earner I think I've now been priced out of the market for any more pups in the immediate future!

As an answer to OP - £17K is not a reasonable price for a puppy of any breed!

QuestionableMouse · 11/01/2021 11:50

My dog was £50 from the farmer down the road. He's cost me probably 10x that in bills due to allergies but I'd never part with him.

Santaiscovidfree · 11/01/2021 11:55

A df from our local school currently has 5 different breeds of dpuppies for sale on similar sites. All with breeds spelled wrong. He openly admits he will sell on the dm's post sales and buy a selection of other breeds and start again . I openly walk away if I see him coming now. Churns my stomach.. What an opening to ddog ownership for his dd...
Sad

ShowOfHands · 11/01/2021 11:56

Only 15k now. Bargain.

FFS.

SlothMama · 11/01/2021 12:21

It's likely this poor girl has given the owners 4 litters and can't have anymore KC registered puppies. Poor girl has served her purpose and now they are selling her off to be someone else's breeding machine.

It makes me so sad.

GhostPepperTears · 11/01/2021 13:06

@thosetalesofunexpected

If it encourages only people who are serious considered responsible pet ownership that's got to be the better way surely.!!😕
That's not the consequence of these prices.

The consequence is that the dog is seen as a business venture - with only those viewing it as such being able/prepared to pay that level of prices.

£ is not a suitable check or gateway to responsibility. If you want to achieve that than qualifiers around time and knowledge are better bets.

theemmadilemma · 11/01/2021 13:11

Fluffy Frenchies are rare. Triple carrier means of the gene to pass on for breeding.

theemmadilemma · 11/01/2021 13:14

Looked at the ad now. So yes, selling female fluffy as a triple carrier for breeding purposes. Hence the price. With Frenchies, possibly could make that back over one litter.

pelosi · 11/01/2021 13:16

Good news! The price has been reduced to £15k Wink

The deposit is £3k so it must not be a typo.

littlepattilou · 11/01/2021 13:17

Ludicrous price. And I also don't 'get' why people are obsessed with French bulldogs. Nothing against them personally, but they don't appeal to me.

I would rather have a Border Collie, a Red Setter, or a Golden Retriever.

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 11/01/2021 13:17

Crazy how many dogs are 7/8 mths old and look for homes.
‘Sadly rehoming our amazing puppy as can’t give her the time she needs’
Roughly speaking ‘she’s not small and cute anymore, needs a fuck load of exercise and entertainment, no longer sleeps that much during the day and I can’t be arsed’

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 11/01/2021 13:17

*looking for homes

GwendolineWindowlene · 11/01/2021 13:28

Isn't it a puppy that they're selling, if it's 13 weeks old, not the mother?

GooodMythicalMorning · 11/01/2021 13:32

I have 3 Bulldogs, nobody would be pinning me down and holding my face. I'm an experienced Bulldog owner who knows how to look after them properly and would rather I have them who knows how to look after them than someone who just fancied one on a whim. They take a lot of research and time and money but still stupid comment to make about suffocating people due to dog choice. You know nothing about me or my dogs (who live a very happy, pain-free life actually)

Clymene · 11/01/2021 16:46

This is a puppy who is really too old to join a family because she's missed the crucial socialisation window. I suspect she was originally priced at £20k and they've been dropping the price.

I just can't imagine anyone selling a puppy knowing it's going to spend its life breeding litter after litter. But then I guess the breeder has deliberately bred this puppy for that very reason.

Flaunch · 11/01/2021 16:58

I can’t imagine what kind of wanker you’d have to be to spend 15k on a badly bred dog with horrendous conformation because it was a pretty colour and then breed from it some more.

Frenchies are the #1 most popular breed on P4H.

Santaiscovidfree · 11/01/2021 17:01

Curious to know if a dpuppy not being available(sick /death) would result in deposit being refunded or not?

LakieLady · 11/01/2021 17:05

@Whatisthisfuckery

When I see anyone out with one of these flat faced dogs who you can hear from 20 yards away struggling to breathe I want to go up and fucking pin them down and hold their mouth and nose closed. I judge people who buy these pups, I judge them really fucking hard.
You and me both, @Whatisthisfuckery.

When you look at the difference between pics of some of these breeds from 50 years ago and compare them to the ones you see around these days, the difference is shocking.

Breeders in some breeds are breeding in health-damaging deformity.

Gingerkittykat · 11/01/2021 17:07

It's hard to say. If it is a pedigree from extremely rare breeding lines with permission to breed then it might be the going rate.

I don't know anything about dog breeding but I know for a champion/ rare cat then the prices can be ridiculous.

Gingerkittykat · 11/01/2021 17:13

I wonder what the other pups in the litter sold for? It looked like the mum had 5 babies so god knows how much money has been made.

LowestEbb · 11/01/2021 17:28

Awful. #adoptdontshop

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/01/2021 17:47

Price dropped to a bargain £15K now...

And/or "The kids whinged for a dog during lockdown so we caved in and got one but they're over it now, it pees and poos in the house because we couldn't be bothered to find out how to house-train it, it's destructive because we thought we could just send it out into the garden rather than walking it..."
Notworking123 · 12/01/2021 01:20

@questionablemouse just because an experienced top event horse would be a lot more than that. A potential decent event horse could be that much before they've done much, but a successful top eventer would be an awful lot more. Unless it was ancient. If she brought it on herself and did the top eventing, she must have bought it before it was a top eventer. Anyway, it's not relevant and now I'm off to search for event horses I can't afford....
