Bit offended by friends comment about my parenting

Friend is pregnant with her first and she won’t need to work.

She said to me the other day ‘oh, I could never mother like you have’ as in I have had to work and have had quite a busy life with my 2 kids- childcare, rushing to get to work, having dropped kids off at childminder but also lots of kids parties, quite sociable, kids doing sports clubs etc. I have been a busy mum but aren’t most people? I enjoyed it too- met lots of people & have had fun.

It’s offended me as it feels like a criticism- aibu?

Meh these types are cool with it when they turn up to ED and find it staffed.....which occurs largely because of working parents with children being cared for by someone else.

To my mind, putting a roof over my kid’s head is an integral part of parenting - if it’s not my responsibility, whose is it?

Exactly this. Modelling behaviour. Paying for my children's house and food and clothes etc by working is as much a part of my parenting as playing with them, cuddling them etc. The latter would be little comfort for them without the former.

Any comment on someone’s parenting is dangerous territory. She will learn this. She’s not a parent yet. If you’re fond of her you could just put it down to naïveté and thoughtlessness. If you don’t like her much cut ties bc if she’s a pain, you can bet your bottom dollar this will continue and it will annoy you more and more.

It depends - do you post on Facebook about how busy you are with pics of your princess ? I find it difficult not to say something to the competitive parent brigade who are always ‘ making memories ‘

The OP said this friend has made snarky comments before so I’m guessing no. Besides- you have fingers don’t you? You know Facebook isn’t mandatory - block or hide people that annoy you. Why on earth would you keep looking at something that irritates you so much?
