I'm going to say about 97% of people can't cook.

I read threads on here about food all the time & even people who claim 'to 'cook', as in 'make stuff hot and eat it', have no idea about food. How to make delicious things, how to treat ingredients, what goes together.

It honestly makes me a bit sad.

The majority of people probably eat really rubbish food.

I really want people to understand food and eat better, not because I'm a dick, but because it would make their lives more pleasurable.

I only have two children though

So do I
What do you cook for them?

NuniaBeeswax · 10/01/2021 02:07

"it just pains me when I read about rubbish food"

First world problems.

Scbchl · 10/01/2021 02:07

Give us an example of your dinners honestly, for last three nights.

TooManyKidsSendHelp · 10/01/2021 02:08

You still haven't given us any examples of your food... come on OP...

MagentaGiraffe · 10/01/2021 02:08

Ahhhh OP. You've got to admit, the way you phrased your post, you were looking for at least a 97% YABU!

I LOVE food. Cooking is my relaxation when my children sleep. But that's because it's one of my interests. And just like I have zero interest in hockey or trainspotting, of course I understand that other people may not share it.

I guess everyone should try to have a reasonably balanced diet. But in terms of the enjoyment of food, some people see it simply as fuel. Or the enemy if they have food issues. Not everybody agrees that it is one of the main joys in life so has the interest in spending hours on it... only to have toddlers throw it on the floor and exclaim how disgusting it is (this happens to me frequently).

While I also love food, I'm struggling to see what you hope to achieve from the way you posted. Why not just start a thread on great recipes?

Sparklesocks · 10/01/2021 02:09

OP backed herself until a corner and isn’t able to share a single example of what she cooks because she knows everyone is ready to rip apart whatever world class cuisine she graces her family with Grin

feelingverylazytoday · 10/01/2021 02:09

@Scbchl

OP isn't going to answer any of these questions.
ChestnutStuffing · 10/01/2021 02:10

I have been surprised by the number of my kids' friends families who don't cook, at all, or only very rarely. I don't know if I'd say 97%, but it's a fair number.

Pavit · 10/01/2021 02:11

You just come across as a knobber If you did want to actual help people eat better, what's some easy changes, what do you eat?

But you just want to be a mumsnet Gordon ramsay but without the credentials to back it up

sazzysazz337 · 10/01/2021 02:14

What is good food then? Cos isn’t it subjective to individual tastes?

People love eggs, I don’t. Doesn’t mean eggs are shit (they are) it’s personal taste

Grow up OP, and get a Big Tasty for all ur efforts this evening

*I can cook

But I don't

(I find it boring now, would rather eat a sandwich and watch Netflix)

This a million percent. Luckily dh is a good cook, and actually enjoys it so I don't have to do it very often.*

Well watch Netflix and eat rubbish food then!

Jolly good that your DH can cook. WHY would you enjoy food but not know how to cook it yourself?

Enjoy yer Netflix

Why you saying she doesnt know how to cook in your reply when she said she can cook first.

PhilCornwall1 · 10/01/2021 02:14

How to make delicious things, how to treat ingredients, what goes together.

Before I make the tea here later today, I'll hug and kiss each ingredient and tell it how wonderful it is, before hacking it to shit with a large knife.

Is that treating it ok?

ShrikeAttack · 10/01/2021 02:16

I'm not about to tell you all what to eat. It's really subjective.

Just as I wouldn't tell you what to read.

I guess it's similar to when I realised that 50 Shades was a best-seller.

You can't nourish yourself on scant ground.

Scbchl · 10/01/2021 02:17

@feelingverylazytoday shes away scanning her cookbooks or online bbc food to post stuff she apparently cooked. She is full of nonsense. Middle of a pandemic, folk are having breakdowns left right and centre and some dafty is concerned "97%" of people cant cook. I'm just happy people are surviving and getting through the days in WHATEVER way possible right now. She can take a run and fuck to herself with her homemade oatmeal flatbreads

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 02:17

I'm just interested in knowing what you feed your two kids, and whether you cook from scratch.
If you cook from scratch, would like some inspiration as I love to cook from scratch tpp

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 02:18

tpp??
Too lol

HotChocAndMarshmallows · 10/01/2021 02:19

You don't have to tell us what to eat.
We want to know what do you eat?
What meals do you cook?
What do you cook for your family?

Jenasaurus · 10/01/2021 02:20

I can cook, I sometimes do, but I sometimes just make something pre prepared as I am busy, I think a lot of people can cook, its just they sometimes choose not to. In my family, both my adult sons and their girlfriends cook healthy meals from scratch, my DD also cooks, but she is very busy studying and working so may sometimes just heat something up. I think the title saying that 97% CANT cook, should be changed to DONT cook as a lot more than 97% I am sure can cook. My grandma was a professional cook, though so maybe I am wrong and just was brought up in a family that have always cooked....having said that I have been known to use a bit of aunt bessies when I am in a rush or even a take away :)

HotChocAndMarshmallows · 10/01/2021 02:21

You claim to have to much "knowledge" but aren't willing to share it, shame.

No, you're right. Eggs are shit!! Grin
sazzysazz337 · 10/01/2021 02:22

Technically turning on an oven and putting food in there is cooking. As it’s making it warm.

So fish fingers and beans is cooking, and it’s nice. I can cook.

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 02:23

What meals do you cook? What do you cook for your family?

That's what I'd like to know

SquirtleSquad · 10/01/2021 02:24

No. I read what people are cooking, and it sounds terrible.

Sound terrible.. to you.
It's quite literally about people's tastes.
DB was a professional chef but I think his food sounds terrible to me because it's largely meat based and I'm a vegetarian. Just because it's my worst nightmare doesn't make it bad food or mean he can't cook.

Enjoy yer Netflix.

If you read the first line, it clearly says I can cook. How about you learn to read.

And I notice you've not answered the question about why you can't just put other veg in recipes where it might not normally be rather than waste it.
