I'm going to say about 97% of people can't cook.

I read threads on here about food all the time & even people who claim 'to 'cook', as in 'make stuff hot and eat it', have no idea about food. How to make delicious things, how to treat ingredients, what goes together.

It honestly makes me a bit sad.

The majority of people probably eat really rubbish food.

I really want people to understand food and eat better, not because I'm a dick, but because it would make their lives more pleasurable.

The. OST complex thing I've Cooke this week is spinach omelette. My children have wanted nothing but sandwiches and salad. Which is fine by me.
I can cook though, I can fucking cook. I just don't want to

cordeliae · 10/01/2021 01:49

Cocky little shiteGrin

ShrikeAttack · 10/01/2021 01:49

*I can cook

But I don't

(I find it boring now, would rather eat a sandwich and watch Netflix)

This a million percent. Luckily dh is a good cook, and actually enjoys it so I don't have to do it very often.*

Well watch Netflix and eat rubbish food then!

Jolly good that your DH can cook. WHY would you enjoy food but not know how to cook it yourself?

Enjoy yer Netflix.

What's your favourite food OP? I want to try it now

ASatisfyingThump · 10/01/2021 01:52

I'm a good cook. I know what ingredients work together, most of the techniques (never could get the hang of roux though, so I use jarred white sauce for my lasagne Shock) and all about seasoning. My grandmother (WW2 baby) taught me how to cook on a budget. My kids still prefer chicken nuggets and oven chips and ready made pizza. So if you could see into my life, you'd see a lot of oven meals and very little real cooking. Doesn't mean I can't do it.

Oh, and if your food is "sweating to death" in the slow cooker, you're doing it wrong.

Closetbeanmuncher · 10/01/2021 01:53

I hope you washed your hands and sang happy birthday after you typed this steaming pile of horseshit

Ooooooof 😂😂

Scbchl · 10/01/2021 01:53

grassisjeweled · 10/01/2021 01:53

D) From your arse

^^°°Grin

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 10/01/2021 01:53

Everyone can eat good food

Who are you to decide what makes good food? You don’t like the sound of someone’s ragu that they enjoy? Well who’s to say yours doesn’t taste like shit to someone else?

And your ridiculous I honestly want you to all eat good stuff. Again, you don’t get to decide what is “good stuff”. Maybe your food tastes like shit on a stick to other people but you’ve apparently appointed yourself as some sort of fucking food messiah.

You sound like a first class knob

LookMoreCloselier · 10/01/2021 01:54

I sort of know what you mean as sometimes people tell me about what they have been cooking/eating and I think shit you dont know how to live! And I'm not talking about never eating convenience food, I will happily eat some trashy foods it's about eating things that dont go or are just depressing. But then food is one of my greatest pleasures, and we are all different.

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/01/2021 01:55

So do share your culinary wizardry with us, OP. You do realise that what tastes delicious to you probably tastes like old socks to someone else, don't you?
I cook from scratch most nights and yes, "random veg" does get "thrown" into things. That's because I, like most other people, use my imagination to cook delicious food from the ingredients I have to hand after a long day at work. It tastes good, it's made with fresh ingredients and it gives my family all the nutrition we need. We do not need to follow a culinary rulebook to make tasty meals to keep us alive and well.
So go stick your spatula up your arse you deluded fuckwit.

5zeds · 10/01/2021 01:56

I would imagine there are any number of people who on tasting your food would think you’d squandered perfectly good ingredients on rubbish @ShrikeAttack. What is “good” is subjective and so is what is “good cooking”. I am a very good cook based on people’s reactions and cook far more than you do (as I have a much larger family). I waste no time mourning your miserable existence as you have demonstrated so nicely that you know no better and are content with your lot. I should just go to sleep you are being a bit daft.

whoamongstus · 10/01/2021 01:56

Patronising bollocks.

What do you need to know to pass your 'can actually cook' test?

I make a banging roast and I'm great at making Vietnamese food (partly thanks to having a massive Asian supermarket nearby so I can buy the right ingredients). My favourite comfort food is fish fingers, rice, and baked beans all smushed up together in a bowl and it tastes fucking delicious.

So am I a decent cook or a sad heathen who doesn't know how to treat ingredients with the correct amount of care?

(Also, what have you got against slow cookers, you monster?)

ShrikeAttack · 10/01/2021 01:57

Haha. The YABU is 89%.

That's very close to my 97% supposition.

I rest my case.

Wow okay calm Nigella just cause you cook your scrambled egg in your micro-wave. Bring back Ainsley Hariett for a series of can't cook, wont cook.

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 02:00

I rest my case

Confused Grin How do you come to that conclusion, what do the two have to do with each other lol?! Do you mean everyone disagreeing with you automatically can't cook? Yeah, whatever lol (can't be arsed going further seeing as you're not listening to people posting)
GrimDamnFanjo · 10/01/2021 02:01

Way too high.
I have a couple of friends who rely on ready meals but I really believe most people cook from scratch.

BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 10/01/2021 02:02

😂 😂 😂 I love it. I’m going to use this method. Post something and say the percentage who disagree with me prove my point. Terrible use of stats but the brass of it is spot on.
Sitt · 10/01/2021 02:02

This is all very well op but you very carefully haven’t said anything about what you cook that is great

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 02:02

Some people who can cook and do regularly sometimes resort to ready meals in the microwave

Lou898 · 10/01/2021 02:02

So go on “educate” me......
Give me an example of what you consider to be a well cooked tasty meal......which of course is very subjective, but I’m willing to listen.

HotChocAndMarshmallows · 10/01/2021 02:03

Genuinely interested to see what good advice you have to offer, so please tell me-
What delicious things can I make?
What ingredients go together?
What should I understand about food?
How can I eat better?

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 02:03

This is all very well op but you very carefully haven’t said anything about what you cook that is great

Good point, enlighten us all with your recipes and tips

ShrikeAttack · 10/01/2021 02:04

@5zeds, I have a a very big family. Five siblings. My DH has seven siblings.

I only have two children though.

My existence isn't miserable. It's quite nice.
