I'm going to say about 97% of people can't cook.

I read threads on here about food all the time & even people who claim 'to 'cook', as in 'make stuff hot and eat it', have no idea about food. How to make delicious things, how to treat ingredients, what goes together.

It honestly makes me a bit sad.

The majority of people probably eat really rubbish food.

I really want people to understand food and eat better, not because I'm a dick, but because it would make their lives more pleasurable.

I think looking at some previous posts, it appears that the OP is desperate to appear the height of elegance and sophistication to a bunch of random people on the internet. Knowing this, it would be wrong to comment any further and either undermine this facade she has tried construct or feed those delusions further. It would, indeed, be the apogee of vulgarity.

I'm off to watch an episode of Keeping Up Appearances 😂

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 10/01/2021 11:12

@Imissmoominmama no booths produce on there...You'd expect the OP to shop there if they are local to the south lakes

thenletskeepdancing · 10/01/2021 11:13

I actually think you sound like a wanker.

If you were really concerned about people eating good food, then you might have made a positively framed post, encouraging people to cook and eat simple delicious meals.

And btw, there is no issue with whacking a shot load of veg into meals if you taste it and make it delicious.

It is fairly simple to cook decent food, and most people can probably do it. Your post isn’t so much about cooking skills, but “can I be fucked” thought processes with regard to cooking.

WorraLiberty · 10/01/2021 11:13

I was thinking that about the booze 👀🥴😅

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 10/01/2021 11:14

But the teens need to learn culinary skill don't they? Isn't that the WHOLE point of your thread?!

Imissmoominmama · 10/01/2021 11:14

Tbf, if I could afford a L’enclume Christmas dinner takeaway, I’d go for it too! Grin

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/01/2021 11:14

I have to say that usually Asing someone and using it against them is iffy, BUT this is absolutely perfect use of that function😂

EuroTrashed · 10/01/2021 11:14

Has LaQueen (or crumbs) been reincarnated as a food wanker now that interiors and fashion / beauty / husbands have been exhausted as subject matters?

Lemonyfuckit · 10/01/2021 11:14

Food is one of my greatest pleasures, I don't really trust people who say they have no interest in food (just mean we're prob not on same wavelength, don't really mean that against them) and I most definitely can cook. And bake. I'm not a professional chef, but I learned from my mum who learned from her mum. And also spent a couple of years as an au pair in Italy so learned from some Italians too.

But you sound like a smug arse, and I'm certain your 97% figure pulled out of your arse is way too high. Also, you clearly have a lot of time on your hands to make all those things from scratch. Which is fine if that's what you like, you do you. But don't go assuming everyone else doesn't know how to cook just because we either don't have time or inclination to make so much from scratch for every meal. As I said, I definitely can cook as can my DP. But we both work full time long hours and whilst we want our evening mid week meal to taste nice, which it does, also don't want it to take long and often just CBA to cook something so will have more 'convenience' meals eg put a pizza in oven, make a salad. Put some fish cakes in oven, cook some vegetables. And before you get all high and mighty, I'm well aware plenty of delicious cooked from scratch meals can be made super quickly. But again, sometimes we just stick something in the oven.

Also with lockdown I miss going out to restaurants every now and again and having a delicious meal that I didn't have to cook myself / wash up. Am really really bored now making every single bloody meal at home and it's making me less interested in spending ages cooking. And this is from someone who genuinely does like cooking, so imagine it's even worse for people who aren't fussed / actively dislike cooking.

midnightstar66 · 10/01/2021 11:15

And yes, I buy microwave rice so the bottomless teens can knock themselves up fried rice on occasion.

What your not taught your teens to cook from scratch? You are doing them a massive disservice OP and they are sure to become one of the 97%.

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 10/01/2021 11:15

"I don't live in Grange over Sands, so your Sherlock badge is not in the post! L'enclume is actually in Cartmel"

If you viewed reading as "essential" like you do cooking then you'd see that I said Cartmel.

Why don't you see reading as essential out of interest?

ShrikeAttack · 10/01/2021 11:16

And I honestly don't care what people eat, or how much they spend. My point is, and has always been, cook it properly! I have no concerns if someone chooses to eat sandwiches for every single meal forbthe rest of their life, but why not eat the best bloody sandwich you can?

Livpool · 10/01/2021 11:16

You sound pretty awful OP - and so presumptuous.

I can cook from scratch - probably about 5 meals that I can do reasonably well. I also use sauces when we have curry because we don't eat it often enough to make buying the spices cost effective.

My 5 year old DS loves it - please don't call social services

WorraLiberty · 10/01/2021 11:16

Oh, your bottomless teens can't cook rice?

Does that make your heart really sad?

Mine's broken in two 😭😭😭

JinglingHellsBells · 10/01/2021 11:17

@ShrikeAttack

I don't live in Grange over Sands, so your Sherlock badge is not in the post! L'enclume is actually in Cartmel, but have been doing nationwide deliveries for obvious reasons.

And yes, I buy microwave rice so the bottomless teens can knock themselves up fried rice on occasion.

Yes I know it is. I looked at their website.

Why is your Ocado invoice mainly booze?

Out of the £300-odd , most of it is bottles of wine and beer.

ShrikeAttack · 10/01/2021 11:18

@JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat, I do consider reading as essential, I read every day. I'm not going to die if I stop though.

OP posts:
EuroTrashed · 10/01/2021 11:18

Cool it properly by buying pre-crumbed fish and ready made tiramisu?!
Even rank amateurs like me can rustle up own versions of what you buy prepared by St Michael, mate.

WorraLiberty · 10/01/2021 11:18

@ShrikeAttack

And I honestly don't care what people eat, or how much they spend. My point is, and has always been, cook it properly! I have no concerns if someone chooses to eat sandwiches for every single meal forbthe rest of their life, but why not eat the best bloody sandwich you can?
So your patronising drivel doesn't extend to telling your teens to cook rice properly and eat the best they can?
S111n20 · 10/01/2021 11:18

Oh ffs

ShrikeAttack · 10/01/2021 11:18

Eh? I've never bought a premade tiramisu in my life!

OP posts:
EuroTrashed · 10/01/2021 11:19

Cook it properly - does that mean following the heating instructions on the M&S packaging?

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 10/01/2021 11:19

Food snobs are boring.

RhubarbTea · 10/01/2021 11:20

It's in extremely bad taste and shows a worrying lack of social skills and an inability to read the room

Yeah, this is what jumped out at me. I actually feel a bit sorry for the OP because the extreme inability to read the room strikes me as... well, quite ASD-ish and that just makes me feel embarrassed for them rather than hate them IYSWIM. Regardless of why, they're pretty out of touch with the majority of the population.

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 10/01/2021 11:20

"why not eat the best bloody sandwich you can?"

You aren't eating the best food you can though.

Shop bought bread and processed meals? Microwave rice and packet mix curries? Supermarket pizza? Takeaway Christmas dinner? Supermarket desserts and trifles...yuk

TottiePlantagenet · 10/01/2021 11:20

Microwave rice is not cooking properly.

Tis fact.
