I'm going to say about 97% of people can't cook.

I read threads on here about food all the time & even people who claim 'to 'cook', as in 'make stuff hot and eat it', have no idea about food. How to make delicious things, how to treat ingredients, what goes together.

It honestly makes me a bit sad.

The majority of people probably eat really rubbish food.

I really want people to understand food and eat better, not because I'm a dick, but because it would make their lives more pleasurable.

A lot of people can't cook.
A lot can cook.

And some people can pluck a figure out of the air and state an opinion as fact.

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 10/01/2021 11:03

I can probs see you if I get out the spotting scope OP. I can see Cartmel from here anyway.

Giz a wave 👋🏼

aprilstory · 10/01/2021 11:05

I sort of agree. You look at school meals/work canteens in this country and you know the cooking standards here Grin Truly sad. Oh and let’s not forget terribly made coffee and tea. Why drink Costa when you can brew better coffee at home at lower price?

It’s not about the cost. It’s more about how you cook and treat the ingredients properly.

Yes, I’m serious about what I eat, so I feel sad when I see people who would put whatever in their mouths. Having said all that, I don’t enjoy exercise AT ALL and I’m sure those fitness enthusiasts would feel sad about me. We are different and I accept that.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/01/2021 11:05
@Hollyhocksarenotmessy I think that going to Ask / Prezzo / etc and expecting cooking is unrealistic. Most pubs that serve food are reheating whatever Brakes Bros have delivered to the freezer and are charging accordingly. There are a huge number of restaurant experiences, many of which don’t involve cooking. For “real” restaurants, it’s rarely disappointing but unless there’s proper expectation management on going to a chain / pub / national trust cafe or whatever, then yes - it’s not the food that gives the pleasure.
Absolutely. Lots of "just heat" food in some chains too.
It's like people think all restaurants make their own hummus😂 Some do. Some get 5* reviews for Costco one. Same with cakes in many cafes.

Few of us came to conclusion that no matter what majority of people claim about their food knowledge, if you serve them average crap but make it pretty, they will be absolutely happy and often rave about it🤷🏻 That's what many places do. I mean, just look at nandos...

midnightstar66 · 10/01/2021 11:05

Well you can't @midnightstar66, obviously. I was comparing them to the cost of decent chicken eggs.

A huge number of people just need to make do with standard chicken eggs. Seeing you didn't answer me I had a look myself and it seems I can get approx 20 free range eggs for the price of a pack of duck eggs in any major super market (probably a similar comparison, i bet the 'decent' duck eggs are more). But anyway which egg you crack does not make you a good or bad cook. Your menu is fairly basic and ordinary when replaced with standard ingredients and wouldn't take any skill.

@JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat

Ok. Plot twist.

The OP (who got her dinner from L'enclume) is here telling everyone it doesn't have to be expensive to eat how she does.

However, on other threads started by her she freely admits she spends in excess of 1k a month at Waitrose and that doesn't include most of her meat and fish.

Can I suggest @ShrikeAttack that you are simply a bit of a snob who rates her cooking highly but so far has demonstrated zero knowledge or skill? You're out if touch with the general population and its current struggles and priorities (and I can afford to do the things you do easily).

Here is a photograph of a recent Ocado order of the OPs.

Including a katsu curry kit (thought you don't buy sauces OP, I don't, you do though.

MICROWAVE RICE!!!! Shock

And sourdough that isn't quite "homemade" now is it?! Grin

As I said earlier - the OP does have an obsession with food.

@ShrikeAttack do you work?

SomewhatBored · 10/01/2021 11:05

£300 for the weekly shop Shock

No way I could afford that.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 10/01/2021 11:06

OP got her Christmas dinner from l'Enclume.

Are they an offshoot of KFC by any chance?

Grin
EuroTrashed · 10/01/2021 11:07

Hahahaha a weekly shop that’s full of ready meals and prepared desserts 😂
That’s not just any plant based ready meal, it’s an extra special home cooked from scratch ready meal....

I find this odd.

There is no Waitrose in Cumbria near L'enclume.

The closest is Hexham.

I also don't think Ocado deliver to the Lakes.

Soooooo ...this makes me think the OP has TWO homes, one in the Lakes and the other nr a Waitrose and Ocado route.

TerrifiedOfTrying4No2 · 10/01/2021 11:08

Oh great someone mentioned KFC.

Thanks for that I’ve just thrown my fresh muscles in the bin and am getting in the car now ready for that fine ass tasty gravy and fried chicken. Mmmm

Cam77 · 10/01/2021 11:08

What makes me laugh is the YouTube videos for making “delicious healthy meals your kids will love” which usually involve:
“Half a block of cheddar cheese”
“100g of butter”
Etc

Yes I’m sure they’ll love it but it’s no healthier than your average takeaway. Home cooked doesn’t necessarily equate to healthy.

SimonJT · 10/01/2021 11:09

Ah, the irony of someone claiming to be a good cook yet they rely on ready meals and ready mase desserts 🤣

MangoBiscuit · 10/01/2021 11:10

@DressingGownofDoom

Reading this whilst eating a frozen Goodfellas pizza Blush
Read this and thought "You're supposed to cook it first!" Grin Blush I'll get my coat...
Ninkanink · 10/01/2021 11:10

I’m obsessed with food and I really see no problem with that - it’s one of the greatest pleasures in life...I love good food.

I also love a KFC. I could eat that right now.

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 10/01/2021 11:10

And for the pp reading it whilst eating a pizza.

Don't worry, the OP buys in supermarket pizza too Grin

For what it's worth I can easily afford to spend what the OP does on food. I would never ever start a thread in order to preach that it's "not expensive to cook properly" - if that indeed is still her "point".

It's in extremely bad taste and shows a worrying lack of social skills and an inability to read the room.

The thread was indeed designed to "show off". It's backfired though, there's nothing on that shopping list to show culinary skill.

What it does show is a snobby pisshead who thinks throwing money at something will guarantee "quality". Oh, and a teen going through their veggie phase Wink

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/01/2021 11:10

@JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat are you serious 😂 Is that for real?
So muchs o for all from scratch. Even the fish has a crumb on😂
Tsk tsk

There is at least £150 of booze in that order!

Is there something else you need to tell us @ShrikeAttack

Imissmoominmama · 10/01/2021 11:11

I think Ocado deliver from Booths now.

midnightstar66 · 10/01/2021 11:11

@JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat that's actually hilarious. Shocked by the amount of processed meat free products too. Where's all the home cooked veggie meals, I'm disappointed!

EuroTrashed · 10/01/2021 11:11

@JinglingHellsBells OR they OP is a goody great troll who had a M&S Christmas dinner delivered by Ocado and wine on their 25% off offer, but pretended that it was ordered from l’enclume and that the wine came from Berry bros.
I’m going for an alternative- the op has some form of disordered eating or a weight problem and is kidding herself that if it’s home roasted and a fry up involves duck eggs, then it’s calorie free and a good thing.

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 10/01/2021 11:11

"Hahahaha a weekly shop that’s full of ready meals and prepared desserts 😂"

I know 😂😂

ShrikeAttack · 10/01/2021 11:12

I don't live in Grange over Sands, so your Sherlock badge is not in the post! L'enclume is actually in Cartmel, but have been doing nationwide deliveries for obvious reasons.

And yes, I buy microwave rice so the bottomless teens can knock themselves up fried rice on occasion.

So you eat lovely food but the rest of your life clearly isn’t very fulfilling or you wouldn’t feel the need to start a thread at 1am with faux concern about what peasants eat Hmm maybe you should find another hobby? Read a decent book? Have a good shag?

PinkiOcelot · 10/01/2021 11:12

Thanks OP. Just been reading this thread and some of the responses. Best laugh I’ve had in ages 👍👍
