Just that, really. Once Covid is over, I know what I'll be doing....

@BonnieDundee

We would turn our sister's ornaments around and she would not be happy.. it was funny

Is that not a bit shitty?

Looking back on it, it really was so you are right.

The problem is that she didn't like us doing that to her but she (as well as our younger sister) would think of nothing of gifting a random vegetable as a present to my husband...

steppemum · 08/01/2021 14:51

In the OP they took and item from their house to friends house. (from here to THERE)

They could only use bring if they were at the friend's house at time of writing eg - (whispers in David Attenborough voice) here I am standing in the dining room of the victim, waiting for the nod from my dh, and yes there it is, the coast is clear, I am taking out the red milk jug from Scarborough that I have BROUGHT here with me, and placing it next to the Lalique vase on the top shelf.

happytobemrsg · 08/01/2021 14:55

Definitely going to do the photo one. I once asked my mum to leave me some Yorkshire puddings for me to pick up for our Sunday lunch (Covid meant they were left outside). I didn’t tell her my DH had picked them up & let her believe for ages that there was a Yorkshire thief roaming her neighbourhood.

picklemewalnuts · 08/01/2021 15:00

@Sillysandy it's about away and towards. You take something away, you bring it towards. In other languages they have cases- dative, accusative etc- which make it far clearer.

So the wine for a dinner party- you take a bottle of wine FROM your house when you go out; you bring a bottle of wine TO an event.

Megalodon · 08/01/2021 15:07

Mil does this with me however it's a hideous ragdoll from her mil. Her mil brought it to her house years ago for the grandkids, and then mil sent it to my house one day with my DD and DH. DH didn't know about me saying no to it. It's creepy as fuck Grin now when I go to mil's or grandmil's house i sneak it back in. They does same with me. Pass the creepy doll around. Like bloody Anabell.

Lockdownlovernotfromliverpool · 08/01/2021 15:12

Incorrect use of bring/take comes from US English usage, that's why it's becoming more common in the UK as we tend to adopt most Americanisms over time.

I bet I am the last person pronouncing schedule as "shedual" (the UK English version) vs "skedual" (the American one).

DynamoKev · 08/01/2021 15:17

I know someone who did this to the "random clutter" shelves in their local pub.

MovingSwiftlyOn · 08/01/2021 15:43

You've reminded me of a similar experience ; back in 2004 some friends of ours invited us to stay at their home in France. They had a habit of writing little witticisms to each other on empty toilet rolls and leaving them hidden about the place for each other to find. We were included in the game too. Before we left I hid one behind the wardrobe in our bedroom and wrote 'thank goodness you've found me! I've been stuck here since 2004!' on it. I've never mentioned it since and neither have they so I reckon it's still there undiscovered Grin

Not quite the last I say “shedule” and thinking about it I think most of my co-workers do too

Not at all, @DynamoKev! I still pronounce schedule properly.

And don't get me started on "Can I get.." instead of "Can I have ...".

Boils my wee, that does.

In the same vein, but not as amusing, when I was at work and a card came round for everyone to sign I would always add an extra name “ love from Vera “. “ been great working with you Vera “
I often wondered how many people noticed and scratched their heads trying to remember who Vera was.☺️

LoisLane66 · 08/01/2021 17:31

Love it 😂

fatchilli123 · 08/01/2021 17:32

Haha I want to play

Rani123 · 08/01/2021 17:32

This made me giggle, do thank you. I love this idea. I'm so gonna try this, I wonder if those people try to work out who gave them the item Grin. Lol love it. So funny

WiseOwlRelaxing · 08/01/2021 17:34

I'm never invited anywhere so I still think a skip would be quicker!

Gbtch · 08/01/2021 17:36

This is a bad idea. Someone maybe did it to us ( probably) many many years ago. A blouse, not mine, in the middle of my wardrobe. Caused big arguments!
Not funny at all.

ha ha ha ha!!!!! love this!

I should have done this for my colleague who just left. He used to say you have to be there a year + before he can remember your name.

husbandcallsmepickle · 08/01/2021 17:37

I shared this with friends the other day and everyone liked it. I'll definitely be participating once lockdown is over.

Dasher789 · 08/01/2021 17:43

Brilliant, I will be joining this band wagon and having a good secret chuckle

cookie4640 · 08/01/2021 17:46

Our family went through a phase of hiding a stuffed owl in each other’s houses... brilliant! None of us knows where the owl is now which is a bit odd, I wonder if we hid it in the holiday cottage we rented one year thinking we were highly amusing.

winniestone37 · 08/01/2021 17:47

HA HA Brilliant

Dinkydody · 08/01/2021 17:48

What’s with the grammar police? Does it never cross your mind that someone may be dyslexic? 😡

Lisasyns11 · 08/01/2021 17:52
