To think this is a bloody brilliant idea?!

Just that, really. Once Covid is over, I know what I'll be doing....

Excellent plan. During my PhD we had a lad with a really messy desk / fumehood. We used to keep adding small bits of glassware / stirrers etc to the pile and eventually he'd notice and go absolutely mental. The last person to add something was the loser. It was a form of real-life Buckaroo.

Playong "house" Buckaroo is next level awesome!

LemonBreeland · 08/01/2021 09:21

DH recently added googly eyes to a photo of our boys and it took everyone a few days to notice. When we are allowed out, I think he should take a stash with him to other peoples houses and do it there.

LakieLady · 08/01/2021 09:26

@DanielRicciardosSmile

If anyone would like to declutter any books they'd be more than welcome at my house.

Same applies with money and my bank account

If you're in Sussex (or close to) you're welcome to come and help yourself to my bookshelves as soon as Covid permits, @DanielRicciardosSmile!

The closure of charity shops and my 3 books a week habit has meant that I'm getting rather overrun with them.

LakieLady · 08/01/2021 09:27

I think I might be worried that I'd rehome something unwanted to someone who'd given it to me as a present.

I can imagine they might be a little offended.

TurquoiseDragon · 08/01/2021 09:28

It's obviously going to be the kind of thing where you need to know your audience. I have a couple of people I could happily do this with, and others in my life where I wouldn't dream of upsetting them in this way.

LakieLady · 08/01/2021 09:31

@ancientgran

DH shaved his beard off sometime in the last 10 days, I suddenly noticed it yesterday. The funny thing is I hated the beard so you'd think I'd have noticed.
Years ago, a mate of mine shaved off his beard but left the moustache.

When he went to work the following day, his colleagues only commented that he'd grown a moustache and didn't seem to notice the absence of the beard.

ancientgran · 08/01/2021 09:36

LakieLady, not just me then.

Justcallmemamma · 08/01/2021 09:37

I love the idea of sticking googly eyes on random photos/pictures. Might try this in our house first to see if anyone notices 👀👀👀

1990s · 08/01/2021 09:49

One of my friends hid Cadbury’s creme eggs all around my house once....

Was finding them for years. Loved it.

anothernamereally · 08/01/2021 11:40

We had a gift bag that we used to reuse between family - it was a hideous design and whoever ended up with it on Christmas Day lost

daisychain01 · 08/01/2021 12:25

@diddl

I'm wondering why they can't just take stuff to a charity shop?
Because they want a bit of added entertainment at someone else's expense.

It's like spitting in someone's soup, nobody will know except the perpetrator, but they get some inane pleasure out of doing it. Twisted.

Onlinedilema · 08/01/2021 13:53

I sometimes feel like this when I receive presents which appear to have been regifted, who can I palm it off on next!

Onlinedilema · 08/01/2021 13:58

Did anyone’s child have to bring home the class toy and keep a diary of events? When dd was In pre school they sent her home with this doll which was almost as big as she was, she also came with her own suitcase! We hadn’t planned on doing anything exciting that weekend but dd insisted the doll came everywhere with us and we had to take photographs and write about it all.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/01/2021 14:02

Yes we had a squirrel. I suggested we leaving it in the park to play with some new squirrel friends but we had to take it to the sweet shop and make pizza with it. Some of the ‘event’ pages though... parents/nannies really going to town!

steppemum · 08/01/2021 14:05

This explains so much!

Don't you remember al lthose mn mystery threads over the years?

Strange white dinner plate appeared in my cupboard and no-one claims it?
Where did this random mug come from?

etc etc, tones of people piling in with their own versions of it, especially cutlery and crockery.
Lots more piling on with woo stories.

And all the time THIS WAS IT! The white elephant game.....

steppemum · 08/01/2021 14:08

@Laiste

The replaced family picture thing. Does anyone remember that?

Family photos at parents house. Someone secretly took one of the pics of a family member out of it's frame on the wall, and replaced it with a picture of Kim Jon-un. Apparently it took about 3 months for their mum to notice ...

One day DH and i will do this to his parents. It's a long game, but so worth it GrinGrin

My ds read this online, and then did it. Set of pics on the piano, one of each child, he replaced himself with Kim Jon-un. I didn't notice.

roll on several months.
dd has new piano teacher, comes to the house, asks dd who the pics are (very obviously a set of 3) and she says my brother and sister. Teacher asks again, and says something like - Oh is your brother older then. Then dd looks at the photos and bursts out laughing.

Well and truly had. ds was just sorry he missed the moment, but delighted that we got tripped up in front of piano teacher.

BonnieDundee · 08/01/2021 14:09

I'd be really pissed off if someone did this to me. What makes you think I want your old tat? Get rid of your own junk, dont pass it on to me

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 08/01/2021 14:11

We had the class monkey for a weekend. '"Luckily" we were camping at a local wildlife farm/zoo type place so we didn't have to find anything exciting to do. "Max" got to sleep in a tent, play in the park and visit some real animals. Grin
Plus DS' Nana and Grandad got engaged that weekend so there was excitement all round!

purpleboy · 08/01/2021 14:22

Love the googly eyes, defo going to do this 🤣

steppemum · 08/01/2021 14:22

we had the class toy over half term. We went to Holland by plane with carryon cases only and the bear was quite big.

We decided he couldn't come, so he had to stay Home Alone. So we took a set of photos - Bear sitting next to stove stirring a pot. Bear in bathroom wrapped in towel. Bear asleep in dark, alone, Bear on bike going on a ride, Bear sitting on floor surrounded by trainset.
Printed pictures, and while at SIL in Holland wrote up a story about Bear Home Alone, looking after himself, being brave while he looked after our house Grin
It was really quite funny. I hope it gave the teacher a laugh. We never had him again, and it was a small class. Not sure why.....

steppemum · 08/01/2021 14:23

I do think this is funny, but only for the right audience, and actually it is only funny if they find out.
Finding something not yours and worrying about it, isn't funny.

Sillysandy · 08/01/2021 14:26

@satnighttakeaway will you explain the difference to me please? I am not English or British. English is my first language and I have in the past on two separate occasions have a man I was seeing flinch and correct my use of the word 'bring' with 'take'. They were both English.

tutorwho · 08/01/2021 14:36

I saw this post on a Facebook group that I am in and now it is on here.. it is following me!

We would turn our sister's ornaments around and she would not be happy.. it was funny. Grin

BonnieDundee · 08/01/2021 14:37

We would turn our sister's ornaments around and she would not be happy.. it was funny

Is that not a bit shitty?

steppemum · 08/01/2021 14:43

They are the opposites of each other (well sort of)

You bring something here.
You take something there.

So if I am at home I might say - please bring a bottle of wine with you. (bring it here) when you come.

You might also say bring to mean you are bringing it with you. I am bringing a bottle of wine when I come to your house tonight.

But if dh and I are talking to each other about going to your house, I might say - Shall I take a bottle of wine? Meaning take it THERE to you.

A letter sent out from school - please bring items for the cake sale (letter is from school and you are bringing them to school, so please bring them HERE)
A letter from school says - please bring in a plastic bag on the last day of term so that your child can take their things home. School is speaking - so bring the bag HERE, take the items from here to your house so tke them THERE

Hope that makes sense
