To think this is a bloody brilliant idea?!

Just that, really. Once Covid is over, I know what I'll be doing....

To think this is a bloody brilliant idea?!

I swear people do this to us. I don’t know how the hell they get in, but the do...

BraeburnPlace · 07/01/2021 23:02

I love this idea. I normally move my SIL's ornaments around 😂

We do that in the supermarket, hide the pile of Daily Mails...usually covering them with a much more palatable newspaper😊

@ImNotWhoYouThinkIam

Its like a more extreme version of "The Bible" that my brothers and cousin have. Said bible was stolen hidden in one of their suitcases after a holiday abroad in 2003. Its spent the last 17 years being passed among the 3 of them, as creatively as possible. Made harder by one of them moving to Australia. Last I heard it had been hidden on someone's dvd shelf. Grin
We used to do this with a picture of Alan Titchmarsh's face that we had cut out of a TV magazine. It was quite disconcerting but hilarious to suddenly discover Alan smiling at you from an unexpected place. He developed a little hole in his nose due to reusing the same piece of blu-tac to secure him.

Years after I moved out of home, my sister must have come across the face because she sent it to me in a birthday card :o

We did something similar with a bottle of strange liqueur that nobody wanted to drink at parties, housewarmings etc, even after running out of everything else.It just got passed around as a gift for years.

We started writing names and dates on it eventually, no idea where it is now but I hope nobody has finally opened it and that it is still on its travels!

Wanderlust20 · 07/01/2021 23:11

I would notice straight away as I have very little clutter in my house!!

DramaLamaDingDong · 07/01/2021 23:12

I’m getting some great ideas from this thread! Grin

Shedbuilder · 07/01/2021 23:14

Do you think anyone would notice if we sneaked our old, rubbish piano into their house?

Haffdonga · 07/01/2021 23:17

DS and his friend do this but it's always egg cups, based on the idea that everybody has a few random non matching egg cups that they can't remember where they came from. They've egg-cupped a number of celebrity homes among many others.

HasTrumpFkdOffYet · 07/01/2021 23:18

Had this done to me today, but in plain sight.

DH arrived back from collecting DSC today with a huge and I mean HUGE bag of their outgrown clothes, passed on to our two.

Because the charity shops are closed so can't take them and she wants them out of the way.

I'm not sure if it's a thoughtful gesture or we're just being used as a substitute charity shop.

I'm less than thrilled as I have a ton of our own outgrown clothes and random stuff bagged up, taking up space, waiting for the charity shops to open Grin

WunWun · 07/01/2021 23:21

I would cut someone out of my life for doing this. It's giving me the rage just thinking about it.

Gingerwhinger0 · 07/01/2021 23:25

On paper it sounds funny, but I would think I was losing the plot if stuff started appearing in my home, so I would hate it.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 07/01/2021 23:29

we have a small bendy doll (called Dolly of course) that travels between several family members and friends houses. If any of us come to stay, you can be sure Dolly will appear in an odd place in your room.

Oh I wish I could go travelling with Dolly.

I would be pissed off if they opened a cupboard etc

My sister leaves obvious rude notes on the kitchen whiteboard. I don't mind that, but actually sneaking into someone's stuff is different.

ToastieSnowy · 07/01/2021 23:34

I’d absolutely hate this. I’m on my own with 2 kids and finding something I know wasn’t mine would make me worry that someone has access to the house that shouldn’t have. Particularly as I’m NC with my mother and that is the type of psychological shit she’d pull.

So if you’re going to go this, know if your friends or family would enjoy the laugh first.

Good point

I live alone but tbh my flat is so small, you couldn't really leave anything here without me noticing immediately - unless, as I said, it was in a cupboard which would be massively crossing a boundary.

Carolofthebellies · 08/01/2021 00:01

As long as they don't hide their old pants in their friends' drawers 😬🙄. That could potentially bring the marriage to the end.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 08/01/2021 00:20

If you read mumsnet much it appears people must do this with their knickers quite a lot

snowisfallingallaroundus · 08/01/2021 02:07

Remember the ironing board? The one where it disappeared.

daisychain01 · 08/01/2021 06:04

It may seem funny on here, but back in the real world....It's a shitty thing to do to a so-called friend, especially laughing about them knowing they'll never find out it's you. And I agree with a pp that if you live on your own it would be a brain-fuck and pretty cruel.

Mind you, I can't stand pranks and practical jokes so this thread probably isn't for me!

Happylittlethoughts · 08/01/2021 06:09

Hahaha... I used to do this in school when I was stuck with random crap. Would just tour the school and drop off items on random shelves etc. Works well in workplaces... not sure I'd do it in people's houses 😕

I agree, it violates my sense that my home is my safe zone, nothing tampered with and nothing added or taken away. Particularly as it's just their old shit they want to get rid of. What does that say about their respect for the person.

The only time I'd left something round at someone's house was a homemade thank you card and a wrapped gift on their table after I stayed at their holiday home for a week.

HouseOfRunners · 08/01/2021 06:14

@satnighttakeaway
Thank god it isn’t just me! When did this change happen?! I keep seeing and hearing it so much 😩

diddl · 08/01/2021 08:37

I'm wondering why they can't just take stuff to a charity shop?

dementedma · 08/01/2021 08:45

Back in the days when we could work in our office, it was a thing to turn random pictures upside down and see how long it took people to notice

Serin · 08/01/2021 09:10

When I was a child, our Catholic Church used to do a similar thing with a huge statue of the Holy Mary. Someone would bring it to your house for a week and then you would take it to another parishioners. The next month it would be Siant Sebastion or Padre Pio. Grin
