My son just changed my phone settings for me so the font is big and I can read everything. I'm just turned 43 and I just felt properly old for the first time. Boo! I'm waiting for new glasses which should help but I've always had perfect vision until the last couple of years. Poor me Grin

What was it that made you realise you are no longer a youngster? Please.help me feel less alone in my sudden dotage!

Howay, as the old saying goes you are as young as you feel.

So my biological age is 35, the age I feel as a single mum teacher delivering lessons online whilst home schooling 2 primary kids is 537

CounsellorTroi · 07/01/2021 00:37

I follow Welsh rugby. Some of the current players I remember their dads playing. And now Ian Botham's GRANDSON, for god's sake, plays for Wales.

supersplodge · 07/01/2021 00:38

Not me (I've been old for ages....Grin) but DH made me laugh on Christmas morning. He's just turned 50 and is several years younger than me, so normally enjoys gloating at my advancing age.

Anyway, we decided years ago that Christmas cards are a waste of money, and I'd bought him a particularly nice one in 2011 so we've re-used it each year since then. (And his to me, and granny's etc). Just for fun, I write the year on the back so we know.

Anyway - we open our cards and stockings in bed with the kids on Christmas morning, so he didn't have his glasses to hand. After peering at it and squinting he said sadly - "when you first gave me this card I could read it!"

Ho ho ho.......!

Rather than ignoring you, people in shops start being 'kind' to you because you obviously need help, or might be one of those rich pensioners everyone complains about.

RealisticSketch · 07/01/2021 00:43

When my Nana turned 80 the entire extended family threw her a party, everyone made an effort and it was wonderful as the first time everyone had all been in the same place for years. I made her a beautiful box of handmade chocolates, we played her favourite music etc etc. She really want being into the spirit of it all, if anything a bit quiet and glum. Finally we coaxed what was the matter and this tiny grey sparrow of a little old lady said "until today I hadn't realised I was old!!". The fabulous occasion and all the fuss had made that penny drop with a clang. Oops. 🥺

RealisticSketch · 07/01/2021 00:44

supersplodge hahaha I love that one

Gothamgirl1970 · 07/01/2021 00:44

Age 45 when my pubes started going white. Completely horrified.

MadameBlobby · 07/01/2021 00:45

@SpikySara

When I had a baby. My body was ruined and I realised I’d never look nice again.
Aw I am sure you do! Your body has done an amazing thing x
MadameBlobby · 07/01/2021 00:47

I don’t feel old at all, I am 47. But I guess I am if not old, getting there. I think just twigging that by the time my mum was 47 I was an adult and so was my younger sister and I still have 2 school children makes me realise I’m getting on a bit!

supersplodge · 07/01/2021 00:50

@Pipandmum

When the tesco delivery guy asked if I had grandkids (really ouch as my kids were 9 and 11 at the time). But hey also reflects the area where most people are grandparents at 40.
OMG and this is me! Mind you - I am actually an 'elderly primagravida' and had IVF twins quite late in life, but up until then I always thought I looked quite young and OK. Sadly since then everything flopped - I don't know if it's early menopause, natural ageing or having kids but a decade later and it's all gone south now!

I've been shopping in my local supermarket since they were born, and often buy meat from the butchers dept. The same chap (oldish) has seen me throughout. A few months ago he said - "not got the grandkids today then...?"

I muttered into my beard and made a sharp exit.........Blush

The end of Top of the Pops and not knowing what is Number one anymore or how it’s figured outConfused

Notashandyta · 07/01/2021 00:53

Everyone looks younger than you.

You dont fall over, you have a fall.

Notashandyta · 07/01/2021 00:54

Luckily I'm not there with number 2 yet!

Number one is starting to happen. I'm 42.

Oh that's such a shame. My MIL absolutely loved her 90th and stayed longer and talked more than any of her guests. Mind you - my Dad hated his 80th for the same reason. Maybe you have to be 90 to consider yourself old, nowadays?
Carouselfish · 07/01/2021 00:54

In the last few weeks watching Below Deck on Prime and realising I'll never be yacht crew! It's for 20 year old and I'm 40!

Grenlei · 07/01/2021 00:54

I remember as a child threading needles for my mum because she couldn't see to do it (even with glasses). It was when I had to ask my DC to do this that I realised I was old - early 40s.

I can remember so clearly going to university - the clock and duvet cover I took with me, how my room looked. It's 30 years ago. That also makes me feel old.

Slightlyunhinged · 07/01/2021 00:55

Hmm ... I had a spinal tumour (benign Smile ) and went to do my grocery shopping. A lovely young storevworker spotted me struggling to bend or stretch to get things from the shelves not at hand height. He went round thevstore with me, getting everything offvthe shelves for me, accompanied me to my car and liftedvthe bags into the boot. Thatvwasntvwhat made me feel old - it wasvthe fact that when I thanked him, he said notvatcall, we like to help our older customers. I was 35! Shock

Robbybobtail · 07/01/2021 00:56

Slightlyunhinged · 07/01/2021 00:57

Oh God, apologies for the typos!!

RealisticSketch · 07/01/2021 00:57

Sometimes I'm chatting to my lovely friends who are great company and I have lots in common with and notice that they resemble the people my parents were friends with when I was young and they seemed ancient - now I am there they don't seem ancient they seem really normal.

ClaireP20 · 07/01/2021 00:58

When I wrote on here for pregnancy advice once and someone called me selfish for falling pregnant at 44. It still upsets me now actually. I went from being 'my God, I'm pregnant again..terrifying but ecstatic' to 'God I'm so old my baby will hate me..'

supersplodge · 07/01/2021 00:59

@Notashandyta

Everyone looks younger than you.

You dont fall over, you have a fall.

We've always said that about 'having a fall'!

You really can't use those words until you are at least 80! Young people just trip up or fall over.

The other phrase is 'ooh I don't eat much xxx it repeats on me'! Bad enough from grandma but I wish someone would tell DH it's not acceptable! (Plus TMI.....Grin)

Maxsaidno · 07/01/2021 00:59

I referred to Helen Daniels on a Teams call the other day... tumbleweed. I proceeded to explain who she was, referencing Kylie in the process. The group of twenty-something colleagues refused to believe Kylie was ever in Neighbours and were convinced I was winding them up. I felt horribly past it.

Nordman · 07/01/2021 01:00

Recently, age 43, when I crouched down to get something off the bottom shelf in the supermarket and couldn't get up again. I had to go further down then onto all fours to be able to stand up. So embarrassed!
