Piers Morgan - "I strike when they're at their weakest - when they need something to tip them over the edge"

I've just seen a number of articles where Piers Morgan has ranted and threatened revenge against a comedian slating him on a comedy show.

Piers Morgan ranting is obviously not new - but it's his pride in his vicious, openly bullying words that have got me. Paraphrased - "I bide my time, wait till they're at their weakest, until they just need something to tip them over the edge - then I strike".

What a vile, vile man. Taking pride in his ability to 'tip someone over the edge'. Into what? Despair? Suicide? Nothing good, obviously.

AIBU to think that ITV, as an employer, should reprimand him for this?

I think he thinks he is a cutting edge, hard hitting journalist exposing the truth

He comes across as so full of himself he never lets people answer any questions and if he does he can’t see the nuances in their replies.

If anything I turn over if he comes on. He is just a loud bore.

Washimal · 06/01/2021 15:55

I'm amazed that anyone who has even the vaguest idea who PM is and what he's like would seriously believe he was defending LK's honour. He doesn't give two shits about LK, who is perfectly capable of holding her own and doesn't need PM jumping to her defence anyway. She's not daft, she knew full well the reaction she was going to get when she declared PM a "hero" on a very left-wing comedy show, that's why she said it! He isn't defending her or upset on her behalf at all, he's just seizing the opportunity to be threatening and generally unpleasant because he's a thoroughly unpleasant individual.

user1471565182 · 06/01/2021 16:15

And why is everybody pretending the 'go fuck yourself' thing wasnt a joke taken in that spirit by everybody involved. Lorraine Kelly is on these shows a lot.

user1471565182 · 06/01/2021 16:18

No it hasnt Lang, thats nonsense. Assuage your guilt for reading that bigoted hateful shit however you need to though.

@contrmary

Whatever you think of Piers Morgan, the idea of waiting for the best time to seek your revenge against someone who has wronged you is normal, it's human nature. I'm not talking about whatever the person who angered him on this occasion said, I've never even heard of them before.

Revenge done immediately in the heat of the moment without a clear head is often the wrong move - you might have misunderstood someone's motives, you might even target the wrong person.

It's better to be cold, calculating and ruthless. Like Morgan, I have a few people on my "shit list" - and it doesn't matter how long it takes to extract revenge, either I will get it in the end, they die, or I die - in each case, I win.

The Cask of Amontillado should be essential reading for all teenagers.

hmmm. @contrmary

You my think this is normal and human nature, but I'm afraid it makes you appear quite bonkers.

@Washimal

I watched the Last Leg and it really didn't come across as "bullying" or an attack in anyway IMO. It was said in jest, as part of a comedy show (that by all accounts is heavily scripted anyway so she would have known it was coming) and LK seemed to take it in her stride. Regardless, I'd like to point out that the person PM has now vowed to take revenge on and "strike" when they are "at their weakest" has been very open about the fact that he has a history of significant Mental Health issues and has been suicidal in the past. So who is really the "bully" here? There is something really twisted about PM's comments and I find his threats towards JA far more offensive than a comedian swearing on a post-watershed programme that is known for exactly these kinds of outrageous (not that I thought it was particularly, but some people were clearly outraged) statements and any celebs who go on the LL would know what they were letting themselves in for.
@Washimal - The real and only bully here is PM.

Just in case it wasn't clear in my OP, my post was always about PM's despicable, gloating behaviour about having the power to 'tip someone over the edge at their weakest' - not about any perceived comedic 'crime'.

His vocalisation of threats and intentions are really chilling, and to my mind, really point to his true personality.

I don't watch 'Good Morning' and I can't bear Piers Morgan. And usually I find James Acaster quite funny.

But I watched the New Year's Eve 'Last Leg' and did find it a bit uncomfortable. I know Lorraine Kelly appeared to take it in her stride, but she didn't have much choice really did she? It is certainly aggressive to tell someone to go and fuck themselves, especially for expressing an opinion. Seemed unnecessary to me, and 'The Last Leg' is very much a show dominated by men, (although usually quite amusing). I found it unpleasant that James A was directing this at a woman old enough to be his mother, seemed misogynistic.

derxa · 06/01/2021 17:17

I hate The Last Leg. I don't know what they'll do when Trump leaves office.

ShetlandWife · 06/01/2021 17:19

I don't know what they'll do when Trump leaves office

Presumably the kind of thing they were doing before he got into office Confused

It will still be a pile of shite. So formulaic.
MaryLeeOnHigh · 06/01/2021 17:49

Morgan really deceives himself if he really believes he always gets the last word in his silly little spats. He certainly never managed it with Ian Hislop, despite putting a massive amount of time, effort and resources into trying to dig up dirt on him. Hislop still has fun telling the tale of how he sent reporters off to interrogate the local vicar, much to the vicar's bemusement; he couldn't understand how Morgan and his underlings conceivably thought that the function of a vicar is to spread malicious gossip about their parishioners.

Mrsjayy · 06/01/2021 18:02

Pemba I agree with you I watched it and found it uncomfortable telling somebody to go fuck themselves is so aggressive even if it a "joke" Lorraine Kelly didn't have any option than go along with it.

itsgettingweird · 06/01/2021 18:09

He could be a force for good. He is intelligent, he's articulate and sometimes gets to the heart of the matter in an accessible way. But his ego and vanity gets in the way.

Totally agree with this

itsgettingweird · 06/01/2021 18:13

I love Ian Hislop. My favourite EVER time of watching him was a the Cummings episode of HIGNFY.

He couldn't and didn't hide his feelings of absolute disgrace but managed it with such comedy.

derxa · 06/01/2021 18:16

He is stepping into Jeremy Kyle territory now.

One of his sons shares is already views and is vocal about it.

I'd really buy into his passion if he'd do this about his son in public.

Also he flew to France in summer despite not agreeing with boarder safety measures. Then when quarantine came in he left early to avoid it. Someone as passionate as him who believe what he says about people should respond immediately and there shouldn't be delays whilst the virus spreads - would have quarantined anyway. Why could he just sit on the sofa? Apparently it's easy and that's all we're being asked to do.

UserMcNewName · 06/01/2021 19:13

Piers Morgan is an utter bully and an asshole. It's because he's such an asshole that the comment was made in the first place.

It was said by James Acaster on The Last Leg, known for swearing and satire, and he said it off the cuff as a gut reaction to her calling Piers a hero. He actually immediately apologised and she thought it was hilarious. She was in no way humiliated, every other guest stuck up for her and they all took the piss out of James for saying it for the rest of the show. She hosted the show the week before. She knows the format and the deal.

Tbh it was my gut reaction when she said it as well. The atmosphere also felt split between I agree and I can't believe he swore at Lorraine Kelly. Piers comments are far worse since they scream of calculated bullying. It's his behaviour and actions that evoke that response IMO.

Is this a joke? Sounds unhinged.
gingganggooleywotsit · 06/01/2021 19:55

Of course he helped to bully meghan markle, there's no two ways about it. He's racist as well as a woman hater. Sicko.

Sparklesocks · 06/01/2021 19:55

He probably learnt that in his phone hack- Whoops! I meant tabloid editor days

gingganggooleywotsit · 06/01/2021 19:58

He has always been a prick who dishes it out but can't take it, as this old clip shows perfectly.. Love Ian hislop. m.youtube.com/watch?v=N6TcgfjcOPU

user1471565182 · 06/01/2021 20:05

I love it when Hislop takes on right wing morons. they really, really think they have a chance against him which makes it funnier.

user1471565182 · 06/01/2021 20:22

Its done a disservice to LK making out shes a weak woman who cant take a joke or do politics.
