Piers Morgan - "I strike when they're at their weakest - when they need something to tip them over the edge"

I've just seen a number of articles where Piers Morgan has ranted and threatened revenge against a comedian slating him on a comedy show.

Piers Morgan ranting is obviously not new - but it's his pride in his vicious, openly bullying words that have got me. Paraphrased - "I bide my time, wait till they're at their weakest, until they just need something to tip them over the edge - then I strike".

What a vile, vile man. Taking pride in his ability to 'tip someone over the edge'. Into what? Despair? Suicide? Nothing good, obviously.

AIBU to think that ITV, as an employer, should reprimand him for this?

@CheltenhamLady

I think he tries to get answers to questions we would all like to ask. I think he is assertive and maybe that can be seen as bullying.

However, I prefer him to an interviewer who asks no pertinent questions or to one who lets someone answer as they please rather than answering the actual question.

I use to think this. But he's become to over inflated or rather gleeful to see other fail.

He knows damn well the vaccine minister isn't going to know every statistic on the pandemic that isn't vaccine related and won't have memorised every daily statistic on vaccines either.

It's unrealistic to expect them to meteorite everything but is realistic when they admit they don't know and will find out.

I feel he's changed from good broadcaster who could ask the right questions to a bully who wants to glee in catching people out for not having answers.

His death row /lifers programmes were insightful especially when they involved women I felt he listened. Put him on GMTV and he loses the plot and shows himself up to be the Arse he is !

Totally agree. That's what I was trying to say but not as clearly as you!!!

And the JA and LK thing was funny. She knew what she was about to say was controversial hence her "bare with me" before she said his name.

The further exchange was funny and perfectly handled and LK knew why did responded that way. He's an extremely smart and intelligent woman who can hold her own.

Viviennemary · 06/01/2021 11:55

Good for him. He gives back as good as he gets.

Needclarity · 06/01/2021 12:03

I love James Acaster.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/01/2021 12:06

@HmmSureJan

Yeah he's an arse but James Acaster abusing and humiliating Lorraine Kelly like he did was pretty bad too and I don't even like her either.

He bullied MM out of the country did he? Grin what all by himself?

I didn't watch it so genuine question.

Did James abuse and humiliate Lorraine?

The badly written article suggests J said who's your hero, L said P and J said jokingly "Go fuck yourself"

SleepingStandingUp · 06/01/2021 12:09

In fact having watched a clip, it seems she found his response funny and actually understood how response. She doesn't look abused and humiliated to be.

Piers is throwing a mock strop because someone doesn't like him

HmmSureJan · 06/01/2021 12:10

Did James abuse and humiliate Lorraine?

Depends whether you think telling someone to "go fuck yourself" for expressing their own opinion, in front of an audience of multiple 1000's is abusive and humiliating or not. Personally I think so but I am sure many disagree.

BlusteryLake · 06/01/2021 12:11

I am surprised that anyone cares about what comes out of this idiot's mouth.

TidyDancer · 06/01/2021 12:11

James did say it aggressively and I don't think Lorraine had much choice other than to laugh it off. IMO it was uncomfortable, unnecessary and not funny.

In some ways loraine set up the response and knew it would be controversial as she said "bare with me" before announcing his name.

JA response was a comical one. Intended to be and LK didn't appear offended and carried it off well.

It had nothing to do with PM but unfortunately his ego seems to think everything anyone says revolves around him and he's involved.

He wasn't even there. And if he was abroad at NY shouldn't he be isolating?

littlepattilou · 06/01/2021 13:00

I don't like Piers Morgan much, although I do agree with some of his points/what he says. But I can't stand James Acaster either. Very annoying, and not at all funny. (IMO.)

Mumtoalittlegirl · 06/01/2021 13:02

@Samcro

PM is a vile bully. never watch him as I can't stand bullies.. how such a vile man is still on tv is beyond me.
This.

I honestly don’t know how anyone watches it. Awful.

RunningFromInsanity · 06/01/2021 13:06

What a clickbait post.
When seen in context, his comment comes across very differently.

CaptainVanesHair · 06/01/2021 13:09

I didn’t see it. But I can hear James saying it. If it was in his usual manner, I doubt it’s revenge worthy. But they needed a segment I guess? Not like anything else is going on in the world.

@RunningFromInsanity

I've read it in the context that it's reported.

How is that click bait?

Didn’t see the thing about JA and LC. I read yesterday that JA went on a long routine slagging off Ricky Gervais for his “transphobic” views. Which slightly put me off him tbf.

I think PM considers himself a voice of the people who will ask the difficult questions nobody else dares asks ministers. And that would be fine but in reality he never gives anybody a chance to answer any of his difficult questions, because he always interrupts them and shouts over them to ask the next difficult question. Frankly I’m not surprised the government refused to go on his show for so long, it was just a waste of everyone’s time.

PuppyMonkey · 06/01/2021 13:17

LC should be LK, oops.

Melange99 · 06/01/2021 13:19

I stopped watching GMB back in March because of Morgan, all his ranting and arrogance was abhorrent. (I couldn't stand Susanna Reid acting like his surrendered wife, only a couple of times did she swat him down when she was given the opportunity on a regular basis.) He and Trump are the most egotistical, childish men and it's no wonder Morgan considered Trump a pal. Vendettas are both their thing.

He is a massive hypocrite about all manner of things. During the first lockdown, he was castigating those who in his view were not sticking to the rules. As soon as lockdown ended the BLM activity happened and one of his sons was revealed to have attended leaving Morgan with egg on his face, but he styled it out, doing an about turn about mass gatherings because he had to. As soon as he could he rushed off to spend the summer in the South of France after telling everyone else to stay home, it's not hard to sit on a sofa, etc. He then left France earlier than planned when they brought in 2 week quarantine on return so he could beat the start of that.

Morgan has friends in high places. They keep negative news about him quiet. The fact he has just come back from Antigua, calling loudly for a lockdown on his return after he had a nice time in the sun, broke on Twitter not in mainstream media. Ditto the photo of him in a facist uniform as fancy dress. Unless you were on Twitter you would never know that happened.

He could be a force for good. He is intelligent, he's articulate and sometimes gets to the heart of the matter in an accessible way. But his ego and vanity gets in the way.

ShetlandWife · 06/01/2021 13:20

It's a great measure of how well that all played out, that people don't realise The Last Leg is scripted

What a fuss over nothing.

PolarExpressislate · 06/01/2021 13:23

He is an absolute dick, and his constant ranting on about Covid and anyone who disagrees with him, ironic really when he left a Tier 4 area to go on holiday over Christmas, not to mention his own son who rebelled against lockdown!

PolarExpressislate · 06/01/2021 13:27

@Alexandrite

He does sound vile. He successfully bullied Meghan Markle out of the country. Bravo!
As if she needed any help!
Bythemillpond · 06/01/2021 13:29

Didn’t Donald Trump dump him as a friend?

You know he really must be bad

Washimal · 06/01/2021 13:41

I watched the Last Leg and it really didn't come across as "bullying" or an attack in anyway IMO. It was said in jest, as part of a comedy show (that by all accounts is heavily scripted anyway so she would have known it was coming) and LK seemed to take it in her stride. Regardless, I'd like to point out that the person PM has now vowed to take revenge on and "strike" when they are "at their weakest" has been very open about the fact that he has a history of significant Mental Health issues and has been suicidal in the past. So who is really the "bully" here? There is something really twisted about PM's comments and I find his threats towards JA far more offensive than a comedian swearing on a post-watershed programme that is known for exactly these kinds of outrageous (not that I thought it was particularly, but some people were clearly outraged) statements and any celebs who go on the LL would know what they were letting themselves in for.

EdithSitwell · 06/01/2021 15:01

He’s horrible. His attacks on MM and PH were constant - he seemed unhinged at times.
