To wonder why Brexit means there are no Cheese bites at Macdonalds?

Teetering on the brink of general hysteria cos everything (and yes I know IABU for eating Macdonalds and for lacking in resilience) but DP has just returned from trying to get a parcel from the depot which is closed at 12 every day except Thursday now for some reason not explicitly stated and handed me a burger and said there are no cheese bites because Brexit. Fascinating.

Is he sure that it's not because they were on the Christmas menu which is now finished?

Gingernaut · 04/01/2021 16:03

McD's are running a limited menu because of Covid.

Theunamedcat · 04/01/2021 16:04

We have cheese bites in the Midlands?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/01/2021 16:06

McDonalds have since clarified with staff this isn't the case. They aren't expecting any supply issues due to Brexit

JemimaTiggywinkle · 04/01/2021 16:11

They usually only have the cheese bites for limited periods anyway.. think they’re part of the Xmas menu.

tttigress · 04/01/2021 16:18

The person behind the counter hates Brexit? And has taken it on themselves to say this to everyone that they can? Unfortunately some people are a rule unto themselves.

specialoffer121 · 04/01/2021 16:20

It’s because they change the cheese in the cheese bites every couple of months. It was mozzarella cheese (the long one) then cheddar cheese ( the round one) and now they will start the mozzarella ones again. Nothing to do with Brexit.

GuidonianHand · 04/01/2021 16:40

I have seen a photo of a poster in a McDonalds warning of shortages and blaming brexit. We don't know where the ingredients they use for this product come from but brexit has interfered with the whole supply chain.

Before Xmas retailers were getting what they could into the country and there were lorry tailbacks of 10 miles plus in France going into Calais.

Our goods from all over the world come in via the continental mainland. So any extra red tape and customs hold ups will affect all our imports.

Johnson said frictionless trading. As usual, he was lying. A limited FTA there maybe, but we still have customs procedures that cost billions.

GuidonianHand · 04/01/2021 16:43

The photo is from Penge, I think.

Here's an article from Wales www.walesonline.co.uk/whats-on/food-drink-news/mcdonalds-warns-customers-menu-items-19537902?

I am sorry to read that you are even going to McDonalds. If that was the only harm from Brexit this country would be in a good position.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/01/2021 17:14

Supporting the economy is a good thing right? But yes, we should have used a delivery service of course. Apologies.

The McDonald's near to DH's work has a sign up saying they have no tomatoes or lettuce due to Brexit!!

sluj · 04/01/2021 17:17

9 times out of 10 the milkshake machine is "broken"; this has been going on for more years than Brexit but I daresay that will be the next excuse I hear Grin

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 04/01/2021 17:31

The supermarkets have cheese, lettuce, tomatoes etc. I think brexit is going to get the blame for a lot of things....

user1471565182 · 04/01/2021 17:34

Costs im guessing. Has anybody else noticed they;ve banged an extra 50p on loads of stuff in the shops yet? could be covid related as well I suppose

user1471565182 · 04/01/2021 17:36

it was already explained about a month ago there was going to be a shortage of salad products when the deadline came wasnt it?

Nighthawker · 04/01/2021 17:38

To be fair, I’m so fed up of hearing “because of Covid” that I’d almost welcome the change.
LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 04/01/2021 17:42

Their menu changes.. think this is one of the things they've taken down...

K cause curiously looked on their website. New cheese things from 13th Jan..

FunnyInjury · 04/01/2021 17:43

sluj my dc have boyh done McStints at different maccies.
The milkshake machines are either routinely broken (store a) or are cleaned 'for the day' very early on the shift instead of being cleaned and re-filled with shake mix (lazy arses in store b)
True story Grin
