To wish Nicola Sturgeon was Prime Minister.

Just listening to her statement to the Scottish Parliament. I don’t want to debate her wider politics or the question of Scottish independence because that’s for the Scots to decide.
I’m just so impressed by her leadership and how clear and concise she is. There’s no waffle, no bluster. She’s just said Scotland is 4wks behind London so the time to act is now before they’re in the same position.

Her manner is just so factual and informative and if I was Scottish or lived in Scotland whether I agreed with her SNP politics or not, I’d be very glad she was my FM. She makes BJ look like an uneducated idiot who is neither responsible nor has the balls to take decisions before the effects are smacking him on the face.

Little posh
You'll be aware that Scotland and areas of England (Andy Burnham had the same problem) couldn't lock down earlier on last year because Riski wouldn't extend furlough until other areas of England were in difficulties?

MotherHeyho · 04/01/2021 21:30

Agree with you, Op. Let’s face it, if Sturgeon hadn’t made her announcement today, Johnson would still be fannying around, totally unable to make a decision.

durgha · 04/01/2021 21:35

Motherheyho,
You've put it succinctly. But l think the other devolved administrations have jogged things along too.

Worst · 04/01/2021 21:49

@Littleideasbigbook

I wish Rory Stewart was Prime Minister. And I fucking hate Tories.
I would never have voted SNP in the past, but I am bloody happy that Nicki is in charge through this crisis.

Would have been even happier if we’d had Rory though!!!!

Wetcappuccino · 04/01/2021 21:50

I am glad to have NS in charge who can make decisions based on scientific and public health advice and do so in (hopefully) a timely fashion. Not sending kids back to school for 1 day, for example. We knew the arrangements for blended learning before Xmas. And the whole “Nippy Sweetie/ Krankie” nonsense is rooted in misogyny and sectarianism - shamefully still at the centre of Scottish society.

MotherHeyho · 04/01/2021 21:51

Yes, absolutely. I agree with you - they have.
Fizzydrinks123 · 04/01/2021 21:54

On the other thread - apparently PM recorded the message at 12.40pm today so NS jumped in and made her announcement this afternoon to try to look ahead etc as usual, as for her it scores points as this thread proves.

Mittens030869 · 04/01/2021 21:58

I agree, OP, she’s handled the Covid pandemic very well and followed the scientific advice, unlike Boris, who has consistently ignored the advice until it’s too late.

durgha · 04/01/2021 21:59

I'm a loony lefty, but over the last few awful years, l have a growing respect for Rory and some other, not mad Tories. Oh, for an end to party politics....

Miranda15110 · 04/01/2021 21:59

She's awesome 👏🏻

Did she, aye? 😂😂😂
durgha · 04/01/2021 22:04

Wet Cappuccino.
Agree.

Blush Well done on being with the top hole, top dogs. Boris recorded his message but didn't have the spunk to put it out till he had no choice. Did you watch him on TV yesterday morning equivequating with Oor Andrew?

Daphnise · 04/01/2021 22:14

I would never vote for her- and I don't believe everything she says.

She's a politician, and is in it for number one as they all are.

If independence for Scotland meant we saw and heard much les of her, I'd be all for it.

Ch3m · 04/01/2021 22:25

I think she is doing a brilliant job. I am so proud to have NS as our FM through this pandemic.

durgha · 04/01/2021 22:27

Equivocating 🙃

durgha · 04/01/2021 22:31

Daphnise.
Do it 😉!!!

Uiseag · 04/01/2021 22:51

I think she's doing a great job and shows strong and competent leadership.

Lucienandjean · 04/01/2021 23:13

@NellyJames

As I said I’m neither Scottish nor do I live in Scotland so my post is purely based on her handling of the pandemic and how it compares favourably to Westminster.
But her handling of the pandemic has not been better...she's a good communicator, but she's just used that to cover up her failings.

The percentage of care home deaths is worse in Scotland than England, for example, but she's had less criticism than Boris has for that.

And the rate at which she's planning to roll out the vaccine is much slower than in England. She just needs to get on with it instead of giving us daily updates on how great she is.

Wanderdust · 04/01/2021 23:17

I am so glad we have her up north instead of Boris!!

Wanderdust · 04/01/2021 23:21

Should add, I'm Scottish, wasn't a fan of the SNP/voted no to leaving the UK but she's completely changed my opinion during all this! And I know I'm not the only one.

I think the problem is that BoJo gets carried away and speaks of 'world beating test and trace' systems and then playing at being Santa when producing the Brexit deal.

The jovial exaggeration just makes him look foolish when he has to do yet another u-turn. It's also entirely inappropriate at a time when hundreds of people are dying of Covid every day, and the economy is in a mess as a result of the restrictions and businesses are going bust. We're just not in the mood for his jollity. And then when he has to backtrack and give bad news, it's a case of too little too late.

Nicola Sturgeon by contrast hits the right note during her press conferences, she looks regretful at what she's having to say but doesn't back away from tough decisions.

whaa · 04/01/2021 23:59

Agree mittens! We watched the speeches this afternoon - Nicola, in a suit, in parliament, clear, firm, concise.
Boris in front of a hospital looking sink, sleeves rolled up, jacket off, hair cut deliberately to look messy. Ffs. What’s he doing in a hospital with his sleeves rolled up? Are we supposed to link him to being a man of action and dashing off to help the doctors?
Then his waffle piece of crap at a desk, with the union flags behind him.
Unbelievable

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 05/01/2021 00:21

And his stupid wide leg power stance, and with his clenched fist power action!
