To be hurt?

So as not to drip feed. FIL is ill. Very ill, and got rushed to hospital this morning.

It's my birthday tomorrow. Due to everything going on I wasn't expecting a song and dance. Just a card from the kids would have been lovely. DH had rushed down to his parents this morning and whilst he was out we had a delivery addressed to him. "Ooh exciting" I thought and put it to one side.

DH got home and whilst I was making dinner he said. "Just to let you know there will be no cards or presents tomorrow as no one could deliver until the 6th" I looked at him in mock jest and said "Oh, well a package came today, its on the side" and he replied "Ahh, they are my headphones I ordered at the beginning of the week!" I went to say something and he got in first with "I've never seen dad look so bad as to what he did this morning", so I couldn't then follow up with anything.

I feel really hurt. I know there are bigger things going on at the moment, but even my MIL who is FILs full time carer managed to get me a card and popped it through the letter box.

AIBU??

If my FIL were sick, receiving a bday card and present would be the last thing on my mind. Because I'm not five years old...

Managed order himself something ok though.

@Sheleg You may think you are morally superior than the OP judging by the tone of your post but you are dead wrong. The FIL just became ill and there's no excuse for her freaking husband to lie about deliveries and not bother acknowledging her bday in some way

Happy birthday! What happened today?

MrsWarleggan · 04/01/2021 17:08

Hey all, well I didn't get anything from DH but my little girl did wrap up one of her teddies in a nightie to give to me this morning!!! 😀 DH did stick the kettle on for me before he went to work though! 😂🙄

I'm over it. There are much more important things going on at the moment. I'm not going to lie, I am not in anyway shape or form angry or pissed off, but still a little hurt. Cest la Vie. Nice day with my girlie's and some positive (but not great) news from the hospital 😊

Aw your poor DH. I hope he gets through this okay.

With regard to your birthday- yes, it's thoughtless but probably can't be brought up just now. I think you should order yourself whatever you like from somewhere with next day delivery.

Lovely1a2b3c · 04/01/2021 19:43

Also Happy Birthday!!!, that's so lovely that your DD gave you her teddy.

Maybe order something nice for yourself online tonight, along with a get well soon card for your DFIL (I hope he continues to get better).

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/01/2021 19:53

With the pandemic and holidays boosting online sales, I have found more and more packages delayed. For example, my DHs birthday is also very soon as in a few days away. I ordered his gift on Amazon Prime BEFORE Christmas and it is still not here! When I ordered it, it said as a Prime item, delivery would be the NEXT DAY as in 19th December. But it’s now 4th Jan and slowly still making its way to me (I check the tracking frequently). And I did today give him a hug and said his gift may be late...

But my DD ordered some cosmetics on Saturday also from Amazon Prime, and they arrived TODAY! A mere 2 days later.

So, not just because his FIL is very sick would I let it slide, but also because order delays are much more common this year. It’s quite possible given my situation that he ordered your gift before his headphones.
