As the last thread reached 1000 posts

I will start

Jo Swinson would have do a better job than Boris on Coronavirus

OP posts:

If you find yourself in the position of being a single parent of young children, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a SAHP and claiming benefits. Fine if you want to work and can afford childcare, equally fine if you want to stay at home. You can get a job when your youngest is about 14 (or whenever they stop the benefits - is it age 16?)
Children are a net gain to society and society ought to pay single parents.
But you have to accept that your pension and retirement years will be a bit poor.

cherrypie790 · 03/01/2021 17:29

No there isn't a line on your pregnancy test.

And how on earth do women pick such useless twats as partners, then come on here moaning that after 4 kids he still doesn't help.

And people who rehome dogs as soon as they have a child are pondscum.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 03/01/2021 17:31

I’d be happy if your dog jumped up at me on a walk.

GrossePois · 03/01/2021 17:33

All of this. The amount I was asked if I was keeping my dog once I had my baby really shocked me. All of those who asked me were judged harshly.
m0use · 03/01/2021 17:35

Intentionally having children when living in poverty (relative poverty or otherwise) is abuse.

Having children is not a right - prospective parents should evaluate whether they are mentally, physically and financially capable of caring for children prior to conception.

90% of problems raised on MN could be solved by communicating effectively.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 03/01/2021 17:37

@GrossePois that's outrageous, I hope you gave them a cutting response.

Fake plants and flowers are awful and tacky.

As is fake grass.

Thewithesarehere · 03/01/2021 17:41

(On the back of my other thread,) I would absolutely not kick your dog if it jumps at my DCs.

ddl1 · 03/01/2021 18:03

Like a few others on this thread, I would find Thornton's chocolates a lovely present!

While plonking children in front of the TV to keep them quiet all day isn't a great idea, a certain amount of TV watching isn't going to kill them. Even if the programmes aren't educational.

Except in extreme cases, a person's level of caring for other people cannot and should not be judged by how 'thoughtful' their presents are.

Similarly, caring and friendship should not be judged by the amount of hoops that people are prepared to jump through to attend a party. (Especially not during a pandemic, but really at any time.) 'A friend in need is a friend indeed'- not necessarily the one who pulls out all the stops to attend your big birthday..

And yes, I agree with the OP that Jo Swinson would have done a better job with the pandemic than Boris Johnson.

@Level75

The existence of trans women is not a threat to women's rights.

It's not actually a big deal at all.

This.
popcorndiva · 03/01/2021 18:08

It's ok to be happy to give your newborn to your relatives to hold, cuddle. You are not a bad mother for not wanting to be strapped to your baby 24/7 and that it does the baby good too.

zaphodbeeble · 03/01/2021 18:10

I’m not going to look at your scan pic to guess if it’s a boy or girl, I’m not arsed.
I also own 4 loo brushes and think Boden is over priced shite

BloggersBlog · 03/01/2021 18:24

Porn in a relationship doesn't enhance it, quite the opposite

Saying No to a child is fine, you dont have to fart arse around with "Mummy/daddy would much rather you did xyz"

Prosecco is like nasty, expensive Lambrusco without all the sugar

Meghan Markle seems to have a sweetness about her whilst controlling Harry by the wotsits

slashlover · 03/01/2021 18:39

Cis isn't offensive any more than being described as tall, short, blue eyed or blond is.

Threads about whether schools should be opened or closed should be in the coronavirus topic. Also, you probably don't need to start a new thread as there are already 3435345 on the subject, just reply to one of them.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 03/01/2021 18:41

People who refuse to accept that no one could really be happier single are almost invariably in shitty relationships, but terrified of being alone and desperately trying to convince themselves that anyone is better than no one.

There is a vast and perfectly acceptable gap between the optimum decision for your child and child neglect/abuse.

A lot of people are really, really shit with money. With clothes and shoes especially. Adult's clothes shouldn't be a regular outgoing and I don't know what people on Style and Beauty are doing to their clothes which means they have to spend a couple of grand a year on new ones.

The ONS is an undervalued resource on here. 80k is a massive salary anywhere in this country and you aren't poor just because everyone you know is on 150k.

The phrase "race to the bottom" is thrown around too much on here. While answering everything with "first world problem" and "what about Yemen" isn't helpful but I don't think it's wrong to compare experiences.

Bangable · 03/01/2021 19:12

I also love it when dogs jump up at me when I’m on a walk in the countryside. I don’t even mind if they are a bit muddy, cos, you know, I’m on a walk not attending a cocktail party, it’s highly likely I might encounter some dirt so I dress appropriately 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also own a washing machine.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 03/01/2021 23:38

If you're a dress size 14+ you're most likely in the unhealthy weight category. Sort your shit out before your shit drowns you! Stop preaching to every Tom, Dick & Harry about how happy you're with being overweight just to seek validation.

Shock

Here's my unpopular trans opinion if we're doing this:

Biological differences are sometimes important and it's ok to talk about them.

Pinborough · 04/01/2021 03:26

If a relationship breaks down the children (and definitely babies and toddlers) are best placed to live with their mother in 99% of cases, not doing a 50/50 split between both parents

No is not always a complete sentence

The Night Watchers should be paid for their services

Private schools offer a better standard of education than state, especially secondary

Cooking from scratch is overrated

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 04/01/2021 03:27

It's not entitled to expect grandparents to do some childcare now and again. They should want to, if they're physically able.

changedmynameforChristmas · 04/01/2021 03:30

Its great to talk even if we don't agree. Just don't tell me I am racist or a victim blamer when I have an opinion that is different to yours. if we don't agree on something don't bolster your argument by calling me names, you bastard.

Pinborough · 04/01/2021 03:31

Allowing dogs onto settees is gross

The faux-concerned, taking the piss out of MLM "huns" is nasty and snobbish

It's ok to believe in woo, the woo threads are the best bit about MN (and posters on woo threads who just write that they don't believe in any of it are spoil-sports and should be banned)

Pinborough · 04/01/2021 03:32

Yes, totally agree. Where I come from this is totally normal.
