God this thread is grim

People calling posters 'thick twats' all over this thread are unimaginative, intolerant and arrogant.

FoxyTheFox · 04/01/2021 18:30

I'm pretty much astounded its still standing at this point, usually these threads are a blanket ban as they attract the bigots.

Any strange behaviour by someone over the age of 60 is not an indication of dementia

Skyla2005 · 04/01/2021 18:43

If you breast feed your baby you won’t sleep very much be completely exhausted and will be constantly feeding like a human dummy

Bottle feeding let’s you see how much and you can set a feeding time routine so you can actually have a life
Your baby will thrive and grow perfectly well on the bottle

Or maybe some people are just thick twats. After all, someone who decides to call someone else a transphobe without ever reading or understanding any of their work, but instead jumping on the bandwagon to call them out as a transphobe anyway, can only be a thick twat.

That’s not the best way for babies to learn to feed though. They come off boob when they’ve had enough as the fat concentration changes during a feed hindmilk/ foremilk. That’s how they learn to regulate their own satiety from an early age when their brain is developing. Important feeding skill and helps shape their relationship with food from the start.

Something they miss out on if YOU decide when they feed, how much and for how long. It’s then about you, not them.

Two of my breastfed babies reliably slept 11pm to 8am from around 6wks of age. One slept 8pm to 7am from birth, I used to get in trouble from the midwives and the HV that it was too long to go without a feed but there was no waking that child once asleep. One didn't sleep right through the night until around the age of two. It had nothing to do with feeding and everything to do with luck of the draw, babies are whacky that way.

I didn't "constantly feed" either, by around 6-8wks they were all in a pattern of their own where they would feed every 2-4 hours just like a formula fed baby does.

I can't really see that making a huge difference though to be fair.

So many babies/children are overfed from weaning stage that any learned satiety will go out the window - hence the amount of overweight/obese children starting Reception.

A white person who is calling themselves black is NOT my ally Hmm.

@VinylDetective Someone with a 38 inch waist (which google says is what someone who is a size 16 would have), would need to be around 6’4” to be a healthy weighf.

Shall we start calling Queen Elizabeth II our KING? Or maybe a non-king? And what about Kate Middleton, shall we call her a DUKE? Shall we call Princess Charlotte a PRINCE? Or just a non-prince? FFS!

Well, female Lord Mayors are still called Lord Mayors, not Lady Mayors!

FoxyTheFox · 04/01/2021 20:23

Its not just about waist size when it comes to women's clothing, hip size is far more relevant and someone can have a 38" hip but still only have a 30" waist. It also varies by shop and designer as there is no standardised measurement, some stores class 32" inches as a size 16. Seams play a part too, if trousers have a v-shaped crotch seam then you generally need to size up to get a comfortable fit whereas if they're a u-shaped seam you can normally size down. Some stores use vanity sizing, others run the opposite way. The cut and style of the clothing matters too, if I buy a dress or skirt I usually size down otherwise it looks too billowy, if I buy jeans I size up as I hate them tight, my winter coat is a size bigger than I need as I like room underneath for a thick jumper and/or a scarf, my thermals for hiking are a size smaller as I like them snug. The clothes I buy range from size 10 through to size 16 depending on where they're bought from, what they're used for, and what type of clothing they are. It is perfectly possible for someone to be a size 16 and not be overweight.

ParlezVousWronglais · 04/01/2021 20:30

Well yes that doesn’t help. There’s still a significant correlation between obesity and not being breastfed though.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 04/01/2021 20:34

Threads about height Vs weight, the "is this overweight?", clothes sizes ones, are pointless unless people post pictures of themselves in bra and pants. Ignore what the scales say, if you can grab a handful of fat anywhere apart from your boobs and bum you're carrying more fat than you need. It would be so much easier to go back to the old mantra about being able to "pinch more than an inch" as so many people have lost sight of what "slim" and "overweight" actually are.

*Breast cancer and ovarian cancer support groups..

To name but a few. Men Neil in none of the above. Men who claim womanhood belong in none of the above.'

Men can and do get breast cancer. It's not nearly as common in men as in women, but I knew a man who died of it.

Just stop. There's a difference between unpopular opinion and deliberately being rude to a massive group of people.

If an adult climbs into a tiger / beat / lion cage at the zoo and gets mauled, the animal shouldn’t be shot to save the human.

@Pukkatea

I love dogs more than people and get really sad when their owners stop them from coming over to meet me.

I like Meghan Markle and think she's a much better role model than most royals, as is Harry.

DIY is boring drudgery and I'm happy for it to be men's work.

You need to make it obvious that you welcome affection from other people's dogs! I often call my friendly dogs away when they go to greet people, some Mumsnetters are really hostile to dogs to the point of aggression and I worry that someone might kick one of them, which I have actually read as a threat on here 'if your dog comes over to my children or me I will kick it' Shock they only want to say hello, they aren't savage beasts Grin

Being a SAHM is easier than working (obv depends on your job)

If you have grandchildren you should offer to help look after them on a regular or non regular basis and realise helping out your children is an amazing thing to do
