That too many men are selectively useless and are very clued up at how to perpetuate sexist myths to their advantage (suggesting some men deliberately kick marriage down the line to avoid sharing assets, that men claim marriage is just a piece of paper, manipulate the women in their lives into weaker positions by claiming 'darling we dont need a party to prove we love each other', exaggerate how busy they are at work to get their wives to run the house, are talking out their arse when they claim they can't work and parent etc doesn't go down well here).

Equally, I think some women are insecure about their choices and don't want to consider the role the patriarchy has played so they continue telling other women the same crap their DPs have said (which is how we get people claiming women have the right to stay in the family home, common law spouse etc).

That the competitive and overly-dramatic DIL/MIL worldview some people have probably directly feeds into how many posters are utterly devastated at the thought of having a son. It's like they have expected DH to sideline his family for her, and prioritise her family, but when the scan says "it's a boy" they're suddenly worried that one day their son might meet someone romantically and distance himself.

@WorraLiberty couldn’t agree more. It is perfectly normal to feel some anxiety!

cigsoffofthefloor · 02/01/2021 23:41

oh and another one!
teenagers smoking isn't the big deal many make it out to be. at the end of the day, it is their life and all you can do is tell them the facts of it, and after that, it's their choice.
you can take their money away but i know that when my parents did that, i started smoking half smoked ones off the floor (username).

I don’t want or need to be friend with the school gate witches. They’re thick & annoying

FoxyTheFox · 02/01/2021 23:42

@UnderCaffeinated I have four DC and, in my experience, they all do it at different times. All four showed signs of readiness at differing times, for being dry in the day the earliest was 2 and the latest was over three and a half. Being dry at night is hormonal and not connected to day time dryness, earliest was 3 and latest was 8.

Two things I did learn:

  1. The sooner you start, the longer it takes

and

  1. Life is too short to spend several months scrubbing piss out of the carpet.
Fuckingcrustybread · 02/01/2021 23:44

My post was deleted for stating a biological truth. Way to go MN

Diverseduvet · 02/01/2021 23:44

People should wait until the babies born before deciding on a name.

pollysproggle · 02/01/2021 23:45

@GinAndTonicOnIt
It means not including SN children.

ViciousJackdaw · 02/01/2021 23:45

Football is great!
Tattoos are hideous.
Not every poorly behaved child has additional needs. Some are just little shits.
Clothes from Toast are just overpriced burial shrouds.

@FoxyTheFox this is so true. I was so cocky with my third. Started potty training before he was even 2 (sounds mental now) then went to Florida 3 weeks later. Obviously he didn't last on the flight or know to ask to go to the toilet. Ended up in a nappy for the flight. Tried him in pants for our first day at Disney. Got in the first queue for a ride (2 hours) massive accident then back in nappies fir the rest of the holiday! Why did I bother? Who was I trying to impress???? Confused

LolaSmiles · 02/01/2021 23:47

People should wait until the babies born before deciding on a name.
That nicknames develop organically, not be decided by parents at 26 weeks gestation as they spend months trying to come up with a 'proper' birth certificate name for their chosen nickname.

User17930472 · 02/01/2021 23:47

That I took my husband’s name when I got married.

That I gave up my teaching career (for X amount of years) to be a SAHM.

That I rely on my husband financially.

That I’m proud of the decisions I’ve made in my life (all of the above).

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 02/01/2021 23:48

If your unmarried don’t give your kids, his name. Same family name always = taking male surname

pollysproggle · 02/01/2021 23:49

@UnderCaffeinated
It's a thread about unpopular opinions and that's mine. It's not about you.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 02/01/2021 23:49

@rossogingerale

I have 3 loo brushes and we eat Mcd's
That reads like those two facts are inextricably linked Grin
FoxyTheFox · 02/01/2021 23:50

@EwwwwDavid I hate the potty training stage for those exact reasons! Its guaranteed they will need the toilet or have an accident at the most inconvenient of times.

Ihatefish · 02/01/2021 23:51

I’ve Loads

I love England
France is a shithole and not utopia
I voted Tory and think Boris has done a decent job
I voted Brexit for well considered reasons
I don’t think spirituality and science are mutually exclusive
I really like Jordan Peterson
I think diversity boxes create division
Cultural appropriation is spike of shite
Being a SAHM is piss easy compared with having a job(I’ve done both)
There are fundmental differences between men and women
Dogs can sleep on beds without the family dropping down dead
No amount of recycling will compensate for having 3 plus kids
Questioning things doesn’t make you a conspiracy theorist
People have very valid reasons they can’t wear masks

EwwwwDavid · 02/01/2021 23:51

But really @FoxyTheFox I obviously knew well in advance we were going on holiday! What was I thinking?! It meant he was really confused when we got home and took ages to actually potty train him!!!!

PoppiesinOctober · 02/01/2021 23:52

Trans women are women

Children watching movies with a higher age limit isn’t always such a horrendous thing - it’s blown out of proportion on here
sometimes

DH and I have sworn and shouted at each other during arguments before, however, I definitely don’t see it as a reason for us to separate, or for me to LTB

I also currently rely on my DH financially, but I have absolutely no worries about him leaving me. We’re very happy with our circumstances.

stovetopespresso · 02/01/2021 23:52

its ok to have a scruffy garden

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 02/01/2021 23:52

The Sahm have no idea how their allegedly perfect dp behave in work.
Clue he’s not dead busy,he’s just avoiding going home because he can’t be arsed

converseandjeans · 02/01/2021 23:53
  • Co-sleeping is dangerous
  • A routine from day one with a baby works & everyone gets more sleep
  • It doesn't matter if you breast feed or bottle feed
  • I like to have a parking space outside my house (and get annoyed if someone nicks it)
  • it's easier to be a SAHP than have to both go out to work & rushing about doing food shopping & washing in the evenings
stovetopespresso · 02/01/2021 23:56

that people with no experience of kids shouldn't be on mumsnet

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 02/01/2021 23:56

I hate Aldi and Lidl, their food is poor quality and goes off quickly

The government may not be doing everything right but are far better than Corbyn and co would have been

The teaching profession has an attitude of victimhood that diminishes the great job many of them do

Every generation faces some things in life that are hard, being young now is not harder than it was for previous generations
