Aibu to stay in the shower all night and wallow in self pity?

I have the fucking cold from hell (have had Covid earlier in the year and no cough just typical cold symptoms x100).

I am 8 months pregnant and colds seem to have literally hit me like a train during pregnancy.

I can't sleep at all, my throat is burning, my nose is streaming and won't stop, I cannot stop sneezing, I'm cold and shivery and I've literally just cried like a child because I feel so rubbish embarrassing.

The only place I feel relatively comfortable and snot free is the shower in a super steamy bathroom.

I've been sat down in the shower now for about 40 minutes. I don't want to get out.

AIBU to live in here for the next fucking 3-4 hours? How long is reasonable to sit in a shower for?

You need to stay there but you need an uplifting podcast. Do you have access to a waterproof podcast?
It might be good to get out of the shower, dry down, put a fan on Get cold and then either go to bed with the window wide open or get back in the shower.
All good wishes to you 💐

Bloodybridget · 31/12/2020 22:48

Oh sweetie. You poor thing. You'd better come out, you'll be one giant wrinkle, like those weird dogs.

TotalWipeOutG · 31/12/2020 22:57

I will take one giant wrinkle right now, in all honesty I'll probably look better than I did before!

My phone is waterproof and I'm sat in the bath so no actual water going on it so will try and find nice audiobook/podcast for a little bit.

Currently waiting on DH bringing me some honey and lemon as I can't even have any bloody decongestants! 🤧

Make some camomile tea in a big stock-pot (the biggest one you have). Put the steaming pot on a table, sit down next to it and cover the pot and your head with a throw/tablecloth, something, so the steam stays under the cover. It'll have the same (actually better, because of the camomile) effect but you won't have to stay in the shower.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 31/12/2020 23:01

Oh I used to just flop into the shower tray for ages when I was pregnant. I was so permanently exhausted and the shower is my happy place. Can’t do it anymore as no electric shower now. Sad go for it OP. Do what you need to do x

Whatwouldyourmamado · 31/12/2020 23:06

I remember having a horrible cold when I was pregnant. It was awful and you cant take anything.

If you cant stay in the shower then do the bowl with towel over your head for the steam.

Honey and lemon and make sure you get your vitamins. Echinacea really helped me top

Hankunamatata · 31/12/2020 23:08

Litres of water. I literally drank myself silly and only thing that helped congestion

This is what my mum keeps saying (yes I've phoned my mum like a little girl Sad ). The only problem is I need to wee every 2.3 seconds when I do that. Sigh.

You need to get some menthol crystals to clear you out! Best thing ever.

Thewiseoneincognito · 31/12/2020 23:31

OP book a test just to be certain especially at 8 months.

christmaspigeon · 31/12/2020 23:33

I feel so sorry for you, I know what it's like. I had a dreadful cold while in labour and within minutes of giving birth I was begging the midwife to pass the decongestant I had packed in my maternity bag. I hope you feel better soon x

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 31/12/2020 23:35

I wasn't allowed menthol crystals when pregnant, so check current advice on that!

1FootInTheRave · 31/12/2020 23:39

I'm the same and have been for about 8 days!

Covid test negative.

And not pregnant.

You have my sympathy 🙂

Ericaequites · 31/12/2020 23:41

Try Vicks on your chest. It does help.

I've already had Covid earlier this year, confirmed positive test at the time, could it be again?! I don't have any of the symptoms though so would need to lie on the questions in order to get tested. I might just fill it in tomorrow in case Sad

Weirdly I felt so much better when we all came down with Covid. We were a bit headachey and slight temp but we were all fine after a few days, very fortunately. I feel 1000% worse right now.

I don't think the immunity lasts for ever unfortunately.

TotalWipeOutG · 31/12/2020 23:44

May have to send DH on a hunt for Vicks! I'm sure we have some lying in the bottom of a draw somewhere in the house.

Thewiseoneincognito · 31/12/2020 23:44

Yes you can get it again absolutely. Test just to be sure, it’s likely to be a cold but still just be sure 👍🏻👍🏻

I think this will be me! This is the 2nd time this winter I've caught a cold.

Everyone else in the house seems to have a few sniffles for a day and then bam it gets to me and I feel absolutely dreadful for days. I know colds are supposed to be a little worse during pregnancy but the two I've had this year have been awful, the worst I've ever experienced.

Past 37 weeks you’re allowed to do, eat and say what you like. Rule of pregnancy no1.
Lasts until 6wks pp

Ha. I'm out of the shower now, just... But DH did venture upstairs and say 'you can't still be in there surely' and got a death stare from me. He retreated very quickly after that.

No! Or at least not literally. Hyponatremia is seriously not worth risking.
JustAnotherUserinParadise · 31/12/2020 23:54

Eugh I'm 33 weeks with a cold too!! I feel you!
You can have paracetamol, and hot ribena!
I only just found out that you shouldn't use olbas oil... This never even occurred to me to check so I have been...

Graphista · 01/01/2021 00:16

This is gonna sound weird but...

Cold compress directly on your nose! I'm talking across the bridge, cheeks partially AND over nostrils - your nose itself swells when congested and makes it feel even more congested. As I say I know it sounds weird but it really does work - 1st recommended to me by practice nurse who suffered similarly herself

Check with dr re safe decongestant remedies to use even natural ones as eg certain essential oils which are commonly used as natural decongestants can eg trigger onset of labour so you do need to be careful I think saline sprays are ok but check first

Another odd thing which I never knew myself until I experienced it, congestion or worsening congestion can occasionally for some be an indication of rising bp which does of course need monitoring so keep an eye on that. I had horrific congestion which I put down to a cold towards the end of my pregnancy with dd, vanished literally as soon as dd delivered (I'd been dx with and treated accordingly re pre-eclampsia) I mentioned this to a midwife as it was weird to me and she said it can be a rare symptom of high bp for some people.

Fluids yes but as pp cautioned don't overdo this. Sips rather than gulps you don't want indigestion either as well as everything else.

Feeling ill is rotten at best of times let alone when heavily pregnant feel for you, hope you're feeling better soon Thanks
