Really Loud Fireworks

Going off at this time of night, when we're in tier 3. God knows what it'll sound like towards midnight. I hate fireworks at any time because I have dogs, who are terrified. The fact that I'm having to deal with a scared animal, combined with moving into the shit of 2020 passed on to 2021, makes me think at least we could have done without the explosives.

You know they are going to go off all night on NYE. Happens every year. Tiers or not, people are allowed in their gardens.

Star1402 · 31/12/2020 19:42

I agree they are annoying but I think you kinda expect it on bonfire night and New Years! Maybe people will have them earlier in the evening this year and not at midnight?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 31/12/2020 19:44

This gets trotted out every NYE

adawong · 31/12/2020 19:46

If only, they have been going off every fucking night since the middle of September around here.

RedtreesRedtrees · 31/12/2020 19:47

Basically some people are a bit simple and bright lights and loud bangs equal fun. There’s no other context where producing that kind of noise from your back garden would be acceptable. Nothing you can do about it unfortunately because people are always going to be selfish. I hope your dogs are ok.

Yesmate · 31/12/2020 19:51

Why is it selfish?! Fireworks are for celebrations. Is it simple to like music as well because it’s loud @RedtreesRedtrees

Tell you what is selfish, having to avoid dog shit when you don’t have a dog. Having to avoid dogs jumping up at you when you don’t have a dog. That’s every day. NYE is one day. Tough shit, let people celebrate.

GoldenLabbie · 31/12/2020 19:54

Why are they going off so early though ? Surely they should be left till midnight?

My cats are frightened. Fireworks frighten the wildlife as well.

RedtreesRedtrees · 31/12/2020 20:29

@Yesmate if I played music at a volume that shook your house then I’m guessing you’d object.

MrsPear · 31/12/2020 20:30

Not everybody is British. For some cultures nye is Christmas. So they have fireworks. I don’t know why this is so difficult to understand

RedtreesRedtrees · 31/12/2020 20:32

Lol @MrsPear where is new year Christmas?

Bexi3 · 31/12/2020 20:33

We had them at 5.30pm. They shook the house and are over 2 miles away. I honestly thought there was an explosion. I can only see them as there is a field between us. Scared shit out of one of our dogs. We now have music and tv on. We've had a dance, played with her ball and she's now settled by my feet. I like pretty fireworks but extremely loud bangs are unnecessary.

doctorhamster · 31/12/2020 20:33

To all those saying it's one day it bloody isn't though, is it? We've had fireworks regularly since bonfire night.

RavingAnnie · 31/12/2020 20:35

Yaaaaawwnnnn! Really this is a surprise to you? It's NYE. Of course there were going to be fireworks. Please stop moaning about it ever bloody fireworks night and NYE, it's so bloody boring.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/12/2020 20:38

I really want to see the bastarding things banned.

Gotaprettypup · 31/12/2020 20:40

Midnight...yeah, kind of get it, traditional, but 6pm nah, inconsiderate aresholes...I had just got home from work, took the dog round the block, thinking got plenty of time..some twat set one off, dog refused to move looking round, next one went off..she bolted in fear, with me being dragged home, she is a big strong dog...
She is currently wearing a thundershirt and TV is up loud ...which was the plan for later when I was expecting them.
Cats are upstairs not overly bothered, but I wont let them out until after its over for the night.

FippertyGibbett · 31/12/2020 20:40

Unfortunately it’s not just bonfire night, it’s usually the 7 nights around it.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 31/12/2020 20:43

they started yesterday evening here, and this evening at about 7pm.

I always worry about my cat being frightened, but she is sleeping through it completely unaware.

On the plus side, Sadiq Khan not wasting ££££ on them this year, while championing how much he does to improve air quality.

RedtreesRedtrees · 31/12/2020 20:43

Part of the problem is that home fireworks aren’t what they used to be in the 70s and 80s when we got just as much enjoyment from very tame displays. Our neighbours have just released a display like the opening of f’ing Disneyland. It’s insane.

HavelockVetinari · 31/12/2020 20:46

Why haven't you done the standard "getting used to fireworks" training that reputable trainers recommend? Everyone I know with dogs did it and have no problem.

RedtreesRedtrees · 31/12/2020 20:47

Because I don’t have dogs?!

sst1234 · 31/12/2020 20:49

J no I doubt the hamster lady will be along shortly because her hamster is traumatized.

And to those saying their house shakes when the fireworks go off, you need the services of a good structural engineer, it’s not the fireworks that are the problem.
