If you don't get what you want for Christmas do you just buy yourself it after anyway?

I'm just being nosy and wondering what people do. If there was something you really wanted for Christmas but never got would you just go out and buy it yourself? Or do you just accept you didn't get it and move on?

Depend what it was and how flush I was after Xmas

PersonaNonGarter · 30/12/2020 17:32

I thought I would get quite a lot of books for Christmas but I didn’t. So I ordered myself 4 hardbacks that arrived this morning. Smile

Bixs · 30/12/2020 17:33

I don’t tend to ask for certain things as I like the surprise. If there was something I really wanted I would just buy it myself.

WutheredOut · 30/12/2020 17:33

I didn’t get what I wanted for Xmas....although after I got over being disappointed I realised I didn’t actually know what I wanted....so no I won’t be going shopping 😂

Theunamedcat · 30/12/2020 17:34

Yes ironically I wanted slippers ive got none 🤣

CoRhona · 30/12/2020 17:36

Yes I would would, partly because I got money. Ironically, not wanting anything at present though! except a meal out which I can't have

Johan23 · 30/12/2020 17:38

My mum and my in laws always give me money / vouchers. But I actually have more fun imagining what to spend them on than spending them

AliceMcK · 30/12/2020 17:38

If I want something I usually just go and buy it even before Xmas. This year I bought everything I wanted, handed it to DH and told him to wrap them as they were what he bought me. Anything else he got me off his own back, aka he let the kids pick, bonus!

SauvignonBlanche · 30/12/2020 17:41

Yes, I would, I asked DH for something really specific a couple of Christmases ago, I don’t get it so asked again for my birthday in April and still didn’t get it and I inwardly sulked and let it fester until I finally got it the following Christmas - it was less than £30 and whilst completely no essential I should just have got it myself, I’ve learnt that now. Xmas Grin

Palavah · 30/12/2020 17:42

Yes, often in the sales

BringPizza · 30/12/2020 17:43

Ha, well over the last 18 years DH has been consistently shite at presents barring one amazing exception last year. Throughout November I bought myself a selection of nice things and put them in a drawer for him to wrap for me. It works better that way Grin

If you have the spare cash then yes, hit the sales by all means.

DelphineWalsh · 30/12/2020 17:43

This is why just buy what we want and don't do presents at all. Spend what we're happy to spend and get what we actually want to get. No waiting around for the actual day when inevitably what you want doesn't arrive at all.

Porcupineintherough · 30/12/2020 17:43

I would if it was something I actually needed. Maybe not if it was just "nice to have".

woodhill · 30/12/2020 17:44

I got some cash for Christmas so I have treated myself to a few things in the saleSmile

Thehousejackbuilt · 30/12/2020 17:47

Depends if it was something I want or need. This year due to not seeing family at the last minute I know they’ve got me presents of things I asked for because I need them. So had to buy them and will end up with two Grin

Angeldust747 · 30/12/2020 17:48

Yes, I got most of what I wanted so ordered anything else I wanted. I got money off my parents so used that - it's nice to be able to do a bit of online shopping for yourself in the lazy days after Christmas 😁

Sarahandduck18 · 30/12/2020 17:48

Pre covid- yes! One of my favourite things about Xmas was getting cash on the day and hitting the sales this week to get myself some nice presents. But with everything closed I can’t.

MillieEpple · 30/12/2020 17:48

I cant imagine people buying me gifts i actively want. Grin Therefore if i want something i do buy it for myself or just not have it if i cant afford it.

I do get nice gifts and i am grateful just they dont tend to be something i thought 'ooh i hope someone buys me a ...' they tend to be chutney, handsoap etc

Beamur · 30/12/2020 17:49

I always buy myself a Christmas present. Guaranteed to get something you want that way! Got myself some decent pillows this year. May not be exciting but I am sleeping better.

ApolloandDaphne · 30/12/2020 17:54

I wasn't sure what I wanted this year. It was only after Christmas I decided I wanted a fitness tracker so I have ordered one for myself.

MaskingForIt · 30/12/2020 17:55

Definitely. I spend from about August onwards not buying myself the things I want so that I have suggestions available for my family. If they don’t give them to me for Christmas I buy them myself, which I what I had wanted to do in the first place!

Nicknacky · 30/12/2020 17:57

I had two things I had in mind this Christmas that I wanted and I’m buying the item I didn’t get. If I had got it I probably wouldn’t have bothered buying the hair straighteners that I got for Christmas.

So,I’m treating myself. The money is there but it’s more than I would normally spend on myself in one go.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 30/12/2020 17:58

YES!
My sister likes lists, I like surprises, so include a few things. I try not to buy things I want from October onwards so that they can go on 'The List'
This years list included a particular pair of christmassy pyjamas from M&S, or a christmas duvet set, inspired by a thread on here - I didn't know Christmas bedding was a thing, (accompanied by pics of things I liked, not too gaudy red/green).
Christmas eve - I'd half made the bed, clean sheets, waited til just after midnight.... and opened the pyjamas.
Couple of days ago I picked up the duvet cover click and collect - grey and white with woodland animals. If she'd bought the duvet, I'd have probably got myself the pyjamas.

samyeagar · 30/12/2020 18:01

Kids are all grown and out of the house now, so my wife and I have really slacked on gift giving to each other in general. We are at that stage where if either of us want anything through out the year, we just get it.

Unspeakably · 30/12/2020 18:03

Yep! This is why God made Boxing Day sales Xmas Wink.

I've bought myself a few things this week.
