AIBU to be disappointed in Bridgerton?

I love costume dramas and was excited when I heard there was a new one on Netflix. But it’s awful! I can’t watch it- the costumes, the dialogue, the plot are all completely implausible and unconvincing. Anyone else feel the same?

I love that show!! YADBU.

Although certain parts (which shall remain nameless) are not very historically accurate.

I loved it was rip-roaring entertainment, Boring culture snobs need not watch.

It’s not really a costume drama in the conventional sense! I can see why it’s a disappointment if you were hoping for an Austen style drama.

Gave it about 20 minutes and that was enough. If you're not going to be 'historically accurate' in ANYTHING, then don't set it in Georgian England, just set it in a parallel universe or another country or suchlike. Couldn't get past the overwhelming number of things that were 'wrong'.

But it's just a story!

Basically Jane Austen fanfiction. Some people eat that kind of thing up, others not so much.

Nothing worse than a "I'm not like the other girls" being exactly like the other girls.

I don't think it would have gotten any attention if it wasn't for the colour blind casting, which is a shame because it demonstrated well that it doesn't actually matter. If only they'd spent ten minutes on the plot and dialogue...

If Series 2 follows the books you won't see much of the Duke, in any sense, it'll be the story of Anthony, the eldest Bridgerton.

OP, I couldn't agree more. It's shockingly unrealistic too. I'm a bit of a stuck up cow when it comes to my period dramas being historically accurate. But it wasn't just this that bothered me. The narration was really irritating and felt somehow childish. The acting was a boring. The plot was a snore fest.

I loved it. Of course it compleye nonsense but that's the appeal....and the duke!

Absolute trash, but I binged it in two evenings!

Daphnes weird fringe was hugely irritating, it totally distracted me from some of the scenes.

Daphne and Simon's relationship got really annoying by the end too.
