Hilaria Baldwin pretended to be Spanish wtf?!

Ballstothis148 · 28/12/2020 00:24

This is the least important and most weird story of 2020.... this woman comes up on my Instagram a lot as a suggested page. Tbh I don’t find her interesting but know she’s Spanish and is into health, having babies with Alec Baldwin and that’s pretty much it. She speaks with a Spanish accent, on her IG page she calls her children “Baldwinitos” Hmm I do remember an article saying when she speaks Spanish to her kids people confuse her for a nanny so I thought an interesting take on a European mum in the States.

Except it’s all a lie. She’s not remotely Spanish. Her wealthy Boston parents (no Spanish ancestry) now have a holiday home there.

What is wrong with people?! I include me for being too interested :) why pretend to be Spanish? In one interview she even pretended she didn’t know the word for cucumber as her English isn’t that good Confused

Oh and she’s not even called Hilaria, she’s called Hilary. This year I swear... what an odd story!! I did know a girl who went very French after a romance there one year... maybe it’s a thing!

It's about a sense of decency

A decent person doesn't deceit others. A decent person doesn't defend deceit. End of.

Carlislemumof4 · 29/12/2020 17:06

@Kaliorphic

I am baffled as to how people become so devoted to talentless celebrities who wouldn't cross the road for them.

It's not about devotion. It's about a sense of decency. Which the group herd mentality of modern social media has completely destroyed.

This absolutely.

@Fizzydrinks123

as greenland herself reveals and quoted below - the motive is to get the thread deleted so is no doubt reporting on any post that greenland has determined (in their opinion) is defamatory. ie "Thread Police" in action.

"Of course, if you think someone genuinely has committed fraud, then I would feel free to say it. And on mumsnet its just that the thread would be taken down rather than someone sued for defamation or court orders to give up posters' identities (other than in that one past incident...)"

I have done nothing of the sort. Do you think I work for Hilaria Baldwin or something? I'd say this is paranoia but you have history for taking little comments and trying to accuse posters of strange things so its deliberate.

I haven't reported anyone on this post. Maybe I should because it is getting unusually personal in the attempts to silence anyone who doesn't support whatever the current bitchfest is about. If other posters are reporting you, then there are probably good reasons for that.

For the thick of understanding, if anyone's legal team complained to mumsnet HQ the likely result is that the thread would be taken down. As you, and everyone else knows. Aside from legal aspects, morally I think its wrong to keep accusing someone of fraud whose actions falls short of fraud. Its just trying to use the mud sticks principle.

Its sad to see grown adults behaving like this.

So yes, I do think its quite obvious that some posters have a bit of a problem with any woman who they perceive as having done better than them in life. Constant bitching about every aspect of someone's life in unusually precise detail does not mean you are some great defender of feminism.

@Fizzydrinks123

Careful, we must collude in lies so we don't upset the big scary man : Alec Baldwin.... - scuttle along now and we know what he's like when he gets angry.

Really?

We should be careful not to highlight the pitfalls of using one's children as adornments for lifestyle promotion? This is just Katie Price with a classier twang.

Yes, people that live like this do seem to be to be emotionally fragile; colluding with them only adds to the damage. These are adults and we shouldn't all tip toe around certain issues because another adult wants to play pretend.

I imagine there are lots of people around Hilaria that thought "hang on, that's not true" but in the effort to remain "kind" and seeing her as being "fragile" thought it would be better to play along.

The kinder thing would be a friend telling her years ago that it is dishonest and people don't take kindly to being misled. Being "kind" did no favours to avoiding this embarrassment that may upset the big scary man. It will be the world's fault if Alec gets angry? No, it would be Alec's fault if he gets angry. Hopefully, they will support one another and live happily ever after (in private).

Again, I'm talking about wider issues, but Hilaria is a case in point of the day to demonstrate the madness of the "be kind" to everyone and them wanting to live imagined realities - maybe someone in her inner circle not being so "kind" would have avoided all this?

That is unusually projecting and over-invested in someone you have never met and are highly unlikely to meet (I'm assuming she's got good security).

You never know though, perhaps she will somehow hear of your unasked for "advice" and if she is really, really good and obedient, attain something approaching your personal high standards of bitching on mumsnet about how superior you are! How wonderful for everyone that would be!

By the way, have you ever heard of Dunning-Kreuger effect?

BenoneBeauty · 29/12/2020 17:17

I'm not sure how this thread has turned, but FWIW, I agree with @GreenlandTheMovie. It doesn't mean that I think women can never be criticised but the level of criticism and how people seem to be enjoying it on this thread does seem excessive.

Ballstothis148 · 29/12/2020 17:38

Decency is to uphold the lie! The pesky media is so awful to mention the lie! She’s not even a liar she’s classy! It’s totally fine to lie I mean be classy! Everyone else is just jealous, tearing down other women! Confused sarcasm in case you can’t tell... :)

AbbeyBelfast · 29/12/2020 17:38

It's an absolute witch hunt.

And frankly, it's shameless how some women are DELIGHTED to be tearing her down, hiding behind very flimsy reasoning simply because they are so happy to see her involved in drama.

And why? Personally I think it's because she's beautiful, fit, naturally slim and glows during pregnancy and loves having kids...

If this was some older, overweight woman I'm pretty sure very few people would give a toss.

Some people just love an excuse to see someone doing well, to fall on their arse.

Speaking of which, some of the posters here need to have an honest word with themselves about why they are being so nasty... jealousy is never attractive.

HeronLanyon · 29/12/2020 17:43

I had not heard of her and spent 5 or 10 mins reading and watched a tv interview she did. I just found the story bizarre and unusual and funny. Also thought provoking Re Us and U.K. views on ‘Spanish’/Latinx identity.
I hope Hilario is ok. Truly embarrassing but that will pass. God we are stupid sometimes !

Gurufloof · 29/12/2020 17:47

No, obviously not just this thread. This issue has blown up on the Internet all over. Hillaria Baldwin isn't exactly a Jeffrey Epstein though, is she? So much vitriol, when others get away with far worse

Sooo are you all over the internet telling others off? Have i seen you on reddit recently bollocking someone for a marvellous comment
"No one expected the Spanish appropriation" I think it was. Or are you on the farms telling those nice people off for archiving everything so it can be laughed at later?

No? Why not?

NotPrude · 29/12/2020 17:48

To those who call it jealousy, grow up and stop being so silly. Just because your lives may be dull doesn’t meant everyone else’s is.

I’m very happy with my life and what I have. Neither DH and I are left wanting for anything because we’re both very very privileged in our lives, career and home. I also wouldn’t change a thing about how I look.

Yet I think what she has done is disgusting and shameful. Being an ethnic minority and having immigrant parents, it is absolutely immoral for her to capitalise on being Spanish in order to advance her career. We don’t get the option of picking to choose to be white one day or a minority another day. We are different as society regularly reminds us we’re different. We go through life being ostracised for looking different, speaking different, eating different foods, etc. What she has done is taken what she sees as the positive side of being an immigrant (the sexy Spanish lady) but not dealt with the prejudices that come with that. That is harmful and a slap in the face for real immigrants who face prejudices on a daily basis.

That point is lost on so many of you because you feel the need to push the narrative that she’s a victim of a witch hunt. She lied, she manipulated her fame, and now she’s been found out. She brought it on herself.

IcedPurple · 29/12/2020 17:50

Ola Ilaria! It's a shame you have such a superficial and sexist attitude to what you consider a woman's 'achievements' to be, but I guess the world is big enough for all sorts.

MrsFogi · 29/12/2020 17:52

I think that it is more credible for someone to identify as Spanish than for soeone to identify as the opposite sex. I really don't see why people go crazy if someone passes themselves off as something they are not unless they are pretend to be a woman - there is no logic to the distinction!

Er, no thanks. Get a life.

Kaliorphic · 29/12/2020 17:53

Yep. It's revolting to witness really. I guess it's human nature and some are just unable to overcome that instinct. A modern version of the public humiliation and harm to women that goes back for centuries.

IcedPurple · 29/12/2020 17:56

Plus, other than marrying a past his prime actor a quarter of a century older than her, what exactly has she 'achieved' that is so impressive? She may be a good yoga instructor, but so is my friend Rosemary.

It's incredibly sexist to assume that we're all eaten up with jealousy because she's attractive and 'snaps back' after having her annual baby. Is this really what some people here consider the ultimate attainments for a woman?

lovelemoncurd · 29/12/2020 17:56

The funniest things about this story were her being on a cooking show and forgetting the word cucumber because she was Spanish ( when she's not) and Amy Shumers digs at her were hilarious.

GreenlandTheMovie · 29/12/2020 17:58

No, obviously not. Farms? wtaf? I actually have no idea why I'm so invested in this thread. I think its because I read about it then came across the absolute character assassinations which are going round at the moment, and read a little more about her as a result. And it actually made me feel sympathetic for her and like her more. I don't agree with dishonesty but I really think this is someone who didn't intend to any harm, not some mass criminal mastermind.

I apologise if I come across as "telling people off". Thats not my intention, its just the tone in which I write. I have put up with an awful lot of rude, personal remarks on here. Several posters have admitted to "mocking me" about my job (or what they think is my job). Its just typical hiding behind a screen behaviour of some types.

Overall, I guess I'm pretty shocked at what lengths some posters will go to. There was one poster who mentioned Caroline Flack and said that there was no need to "be kind" just because someone had committed suicide because she was a violent abuser who deserved it, or words to that effect, and I just thought "wow, you are actually using someone's suicide like that."

NotPrude · 29/12/2020 18:00

@IcedPurple Agreed! This jealousy narrative is extremely sexist and very much a remnant of the male patriarchy dictating how women should behave. How dare we question or criticise what another woman has done. If we do, we’re just jealous.

The ironic thing is those posters pushing that narrative fail to see how they are the ones promoting gender stereotypes.

BenoneBeauty · 29/12/2020 18:01

What people seem to be missing is that being Spanish in America is absolutely not the same as being Hispanic. It's totally wrong of course, but Spanish people are not seen as 2nd class citizens in the way that Latinas are (I mean wrong that anyone is viewed as other or lesser) so she really hasn't benefited in any way other than being viewed as more interesting than your bog standard Bostonian.

Men identifying as women and gaining access to female only spaces is abhorrent and horrific and yet is seemingly totally acceptable but Hilaria lying about her heritage means she should be vilified - totally wrong!

IcedPurple · 29/12/2020 18:05

Especially as what we're supposedly all green with envy about is not some outstanding career achievements (which she does not have) but an ability to produce 5 babies in quick succession while still retaining a flat tummy.

FFS. These people are revealing a lot about themselves, not about those of us they are intent on 'tearing down' - to use one of their favourite expressions.

GreenlandTheMovie · 29/12/2020 18:06

IcedPurple Plus, other than marrying a past his prime actor a quarter of a century older than her, what exactly has she 'achieved' that is so impressive? She may be a good yoga instructor, but so is my friend Rosemary.

Well, shes a lot more popular than you for one thing, and makes plenty of money out of appealing to a lot of people in a way that your nasty, bitchy remarks don't. Perhaps you could learn something from her?

It's incredibly sexist to assume that we're all eaten up with jealousy because she's attractive and 'snaps back' after having her annual baby. Is this really what some people here consider the ultimate attainments for a woman?

According to you and a couple of other posters, the only thing thats not sexist in your book is bitching about women on the basis of their choice of husband or career.

Its just belching out the same endless drivel.

Ballstothis148 · 29/12/2020 18:10

I don’t think she’s that popular anymore...

@Ballstothis148 A lot of posters seem to think we’re all desperate for fame and fortune, hence the accusations of jealousy. I think a lot of us are happy without any fame!

Vitaminsss · 29/12/2020 18:14

Yeah - she gained popularity after she started cosplaying a different ethnicity. No one cared about Hilary Hayward Thomas, not even Hilaria herself considering she changed her entire identity.
