Could someone please tell me that this vaccine is going to work and this will all be over this year?

Just that.

It will work, won't it?
And this nightmare will end and I'll be able to see my mum, the kids will be in school full time no probs and ill be able to go to a gig by September, surely?

OP posts:
moita · 22/12/2020 13:54

As a mum of a vulnerable child: I bloodu hope so.

mbosnz · 22/12/2020 13:57

For myself, and you may be different, I find that if I start trying to predict the future, I just stress myself even further. I find just keeping head down, arse up, dealing with the now, what is here in front of me, is better for my state of mind, because the reality is, we don't know. Hell, they don't know, lol.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 22/12/2020 13:58

Yes probably. And if not we will have to be nimble with vaccine strains.

Humans are clever (well also pig stupid!)

PortyPiglet42 · 22/12/2020 13:58

I can't tell you that. We don't know re vaccine take-up will be, we don't know about virus mutations

I can tell you that eventually human nature will win out despite whatever risks remain and we will go back to mixing as we did before.

We just don't know the timescale.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/12/2020 13:59

@mbosnz that's pretty much how we are coping. No real expectations of change, only form loose plans and have a few loosely imagined plans b,c etc. Don't get attached to any single plan, idea, hope etc.

I can't influence any of it, iI can only manage my own expecations... andhope to influence those of family!

So I am still sitting tight, looking for the joy in little things and not sweating the future!

Treaclepie19 · 22/12/2020 14:00

I hope so. I also have a gig I'm really hoping to go to in September.

Wellthiswillhelp · 22/12/2020 14:00

Things will improve this summer but expect masks and social distancing to continue into 2022 and continued disruption before settling for 2023. That's my thoughts anyway.

tttigress · 22/12/2020 14:01

I am thinking things will start to get back to normal in April may when:

-all of the vulnerable people have been vaccinated
-the whether starts to warm up

Sirius99 · 22/12/2020 14:01

No sorry, at this stage I don’t think anybody truthfully can tell you that.

Northernbeachbum · 22/12/2020 14:04

Nothing is ever certain in life but I'm 99% sure Smile

Coronavirus vaccines have been around for a while for animals, just the common cold isnt worth bothering about so we never needed one for humans before

I'm staying positive

Gardeniaofdelights · 22/12/2020 14:07

It’s going to be ok, OP. It won’t be immediate but in the next year, it’s going to get better Flowers

FestiveChristmasLights · 22/12/2020 14:08

I hope so but who knows. It won’t be the same Christmas as last year but I really hope it’ll be better than this year.

Sirius99 · 22/12/2020 14:11

Gardeniaofdelights Are you just saying that or have you actual knowledge?

MagnoliaBeige · 22/12/2020 14:13

It’s going to be ok. My prediction is national lockdown (tier 4) until March/April when hopefully most of the vulnerable/over 65 categories are vaccinated. Then a gradual return to a normal life by autumn, with maybe a blip over winter 2021..

CarolinaWeeper · 22/12/2020 14:18

This is my feeling too. We have a vaccine so things are more hopeful, it will just take time but I do believe that 2021 will be a better year with more positive things to look forward to. We were able to mix a little bit more this Summer so with a vaccination programme, next Summer will be better.

If not and this new strain is vaccine resistant or something.... I agree with a PP that human nature will win out and we'll find a way of living with it. There's only so long people will cut themselves off from friends and family.

Littlegoth · 22/12/2020 14:18

I am cautiously optimistic

gamerchick · 22/12/2020 14:19

I've wrote next year off. This isn't going to end any time soon. There's like 64 million people in the UK. A fair chunk of those will need vaccinating. We've done half a million so far or something isn't it? It's going to take a while.

emilyfrost · 22/12/2020 14:20

Nobody can answer that but there’s no point stressing about it because it’s quite obviously not going to last forever.

They can expect but I won’t be wearing them nor will I be social distancing past March
gamerchick · 22/12/2020 14:25

Is march some sort of magical month?

Echobelly · 22/12/2020 14:26

It will very likely work but we do have to be realistic about expectations because distancing and masks will likely be in place through much of next year - hopefully things will ease up a bit in spring/summer like they did last year and we will be able to see more people.

I do think that from at least April the worst direct effects of the virus will be over.

ilovesooty · 22/12/2020 14:29

@HeyBaby2020 we already know you have no regard for social responsibility.

In terms of the OP I think there will be a gradual improvement over the course of next year.

You don’t know me at all babe x

Jangle33 · 22/12/2020 14:32

No one can promise that. This pandemic could also happen again with another virus. We don’t seem to have identified the root cause do we?

I’m a good kind hearted person, if you knew me before covid you wouldn’t be saying that 😍
