And the diabetics? I mean they can have the chocolate right?

You know for medicinal purposes?

demitrimendeleev1 · 21/12/2020 21:02

There are some odd people on this thread

@Whatwouldscullydo

Well lockdowns have failed twice so far so no.

I think money would be better spent on properly securing work places and schools than on UC for the millions of people losing their jobs and homes as a result .

I think the thing is, it's not actually possible to secure schools and workplaces, in the same way that it's not possible to abide by the Good Friday Agreement whist reinstating borders. There isn't something we can do that will mean that schools will be Covid-safe places.
GlummyMcGlummerson · 21/12/2020 21:02

@Lorius what have you been feeding your children since March?

MercyBooth · 21/12/2020 21:02

Sadly I fear the majority support a less extreme version of what Lorius promotes

Until they have to pay for it.

Unfortunately it seems like those who have already payed so much will pay yet more

*NHS gets 'overwhelmed' every winter so I am getting a bit sick of healthy people having to stay indoors to 'save the NHS' when frankly the NHS should be here to save us.

This*

Yes yes. DD was in PICU with a respiratory condition last Nov and had just come off the vent one night when they explained to me there were no intensive care beds left in the country and as she was no longer on vent she would be moved to HDU as soon as someone more poorly needed her bed.
The nurses told me that it was a very typical november.

Our NHS is always stretched, Covid doesn't help but it's really not the only thing.

NeedWineNow · 21/12/2020 21:03

@Lorius is a troll surely.

If not I fear for their children, seriously.

ichundich · 21/12/2020 21:04

No, because they only slow the spread temporarily and come with a huge financial cost. Rather than propping up the economy that is failing because of all the shutdowns and people's dwindling buying power I would spend the money on the NHS (so it can cope with the extra demand) and a speedy vaccine rollout.

MadameBlobby · 21/12/2020 21:04

Frankly chocolate is not essential. Therefore people should not be buying it in a pandemic.

Lorius I think you could do with having a read of the statistics, then popping to your GP for a chat about anxiety.

I think enforcement was always the wrong way of going aboutnthing. If people's basic needs were taken care of, then people would have been better equipped and more willing to self isolate. As it stands, people living pay cheque to pay cheque are having to decide whether to sacrifice money they desperately need for the greater good or suppress a cough and temperature and go to work anyway. Good samaritans are arranging food deliveries to people who have no one to help them. Everyone is going to put the people under thier roof first, if self isolating risks thier family's welfare, people simply will not comply.

demitrimendeleev1 · 21/12/2020 21:06

I don’t think it’s helpful to make out people who we disagree with are mentally ill

I don’t see the point if schools aren’t closed....

*About things

Bathroom12345 · 21/12/2020 21:07

I would lockdown the elderly and vulnerable. General Lockdowns don’t work. My M and S this morning had at least half the people well over retirement age couple shopping as though nothing was different. One person had no mask and our children’s futures are being trashed.

Please ring fence the people who are liable to suffer from this horrible virus. Make some special arrangements for them. I know it’s not fair but the average age of death is higher than normal death rates.

There is little sign of the Oxford vaccine and the Pfizer one, where are the additional stocks? God help us if we only have 800,000.

LilacSloth · 21/12/2020 21:08

No. Trying to work and look after a 2 year old just doesn't work and I want to keep my job.

JimmyTheWeed · 21/12/2020 21:08

I live in Greater London,which is in tier 4. So we're already under lockdown in everything but name.

MercyBooth · 21/12/2020 21:08

Wonder how long childless ppl in bedsits are going to be willing to keep doing lock downs that dont work while schools are kept open.

Rosebel · 21/12/2020 21:10

No. I couldn't stand it. If the nurseries are shut I can't work. If the schools close my eldest will loose out on support for GCSEs and my middle daughter will fall behind again.
Besides as has been said, what's the point? Cases go down we return to normal and cases go up. Need to ride it out now which we should have done in the first place.
Unfortunately I do think it's going to happen after Christmas, probably on 30th December. Dreading it.

MercyBooth · 21/12/2020 21:10

Yes the elephant in the room is ppl not being able to afford to self isolate.

Almostslimjim · 21/12/2020 21:10

Those who say "lockdowns don't work" what do you mean? I don't understand?

demitrimendeleev1 · 21/12/2020 21:11

@MercyBooth

People on the lowest incomes can apply for a £500 grant

Rosebel I have the same age range toddler, middle and GSCE.

All ages will lose out. Private nurseries shutting would be a very big deal and exam year will be impacted.

MercyBooth · 21/12/2020 21:12

Not all of them qualify.
