Worst in Living Memory?

Maybe it’s because we’re all caught up in everything right now, but AIBU to think Boris Johnson the worst Prime Minister in living memory? I mean, which of the former PMs, wouldn’t you swap in for him? Or is he just a victim of a bad set of circumstances?

OP posts:

If a subject who is the Worst PM in living memory then of course it's going to be a narrow discussion.
We could digress and ask which American President was the worst, but it doesn't answer the basic question.

'If a subject who is the Worst PM in living memory then of course it's going to be a narrow discussion.'

Well, threads often evolve and don't just necessarily parrot answers to an op. For example my comment about Wales and the scot nats was in response to a pp suggesting another leader may have done better in the pandemic when Drakeford and Sturgeon are shining examples that the opposite is true.

'Blair us still trying to poke his pointy nose in, at ant opportunity'
Yes and the shambolic Alistair Campbell on every time I turn the telly on. Why don't his family tell him he's making a tit of himself?

Peregrina · 29/12/2020 13:29

But if you don't live in Scotland/Wales/NI you can't have a proper opinion on Sturgeon/Drakeford or Foster. But we all have to put up with UK PMs.

nosswith · 29/12/2020 14:04

@GetOffYourHighHorse not sacking Dominic Cummings and Robert Jenrick. Not coming to press conferences with a face covering and then removing it (as Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron do).

blessedfig · 29/12/2020 14:06

Blair us still trying to poke his pointy nose in, at ant opportunity'

Have you read his article on vaccination? Reads like an actual strategy and one that would have an impact. But Johnson prefers soundbites to strategies so it won't happen.

Yes and the shambolic Alistair Campbell on every time I turn the telly on.

In what way is he shambolic? The country wasn't a shambles when New Labour were in power, far from it. I can't believe someone who defends Johnson of all people would choose the term shambolic to describe someone else, who's about as different as you can get from him.

blessedfig · 29/12/2020 14:09

Now the worst FM must surely go to Sturgeon and her grasping hypocritical right hand man Blackford. To have wanged on at length about Johnson's no deal 'disaster' for Scotland they are now going to actually vote against the deal struck.

What's so awful about that? They know that the numbers mean that no deal is off the table so they're choosing to make the point that it's an utterly shit deal, which it is. There's no risk of no deal so they can afford to do that rather than voting with the Tories, which would be anathema to their supporters.

HilaryThorpe · 29/12/2020 14:12

Yes definitely the worst in my memory and I am in my seventies. There have been good Prime Ministers and bad, but I don't ever recall one who so totally lacked gravitas, had so little grasp of his brief, lied so gratuitously and looked as if he had been dragged through a hedge backwards.

Peregrina · 29/12/2020 14:15

Come on - if even The Conservative Woman site has started going on about how it's a poor deal, then why would anyone expect a deal which did nothing for Scotland be supported by the SNP?

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 29/12/2020 14:20

@nosswith That reminds me of Johnson needing Ursula Von Der Leyen to remind him to social distance www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/von-der-leyen-johnson-social-distancing-b236028.html%

Johnson needing to self isolate in November after a meeting with the so called ‘common sense’ group of Tory MPs in No. 10.

Johnson recounting how he was shaking hands with Covid patients to put the public at ease.

Johnson attending Twickenham along with 80,000 others including his heavily pregnant girlfriend as the pandemic took hold in Europe.

He’s a liability to himself let alone the rest of the country!

GetOffYourHighHorse · 29/12/2020 14:51

'But if you don't live in Scotland/Wales/NI you can't have a proper opinion on Sturgeon/Drakeford or Foster. '

Wtaf. You can't have a 'proper opinion' on someone unless you live in the same country? That, with respect, is bollocks. We see their faces on TV all the time with Sturgeon doing her daily opportunistic party political broadcast. I will have an opinion on that thanks.

'Yes definitely the worst in my memory '

Worse than Blair's illegal Iraq war and terrible PFI balls up plus the ridiculous gp contract? But Johnson has negotiated a FTA with the EU and of course, even worse 'looked as if he had been dragged through a hedge backwards' so he's the worst Grin.

Peregrina · 29/12/2020 15:49

I disagree and with respect to N Ireland in particular, I would think that the average English voter has little idea who Foster is. Drakeford - they probably don't know him either. Sturgeon yes, she has a high profile, but her policies don't directly affect English voters.

Well Johnson has negotiated a Deal and not all Tories are happy with it.

nosswith · 29/12/2020 16:41

This thread is about the UK Prime Minister. I have opinions on the First Ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, but they are for other threads.

I also have opinions about the French presidents and Prime Ministers, and indeed some of the Belgian ones, not just the ones I have met, but again not for this thread.

*Why don't his family tell him he's making a tit of himself?

Because it wouldn’t be true. Blair and Campbell are the voice of sanity right now.
