Settle a debate between me and DH. The song ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’ are the lyrics

  1. Good tiding we bring to you and your king
Or
  1. Good tidings we bring to you and your kin

NetballHoop · 21/12/2020 01:32

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 21/12/2020 06:58

@DonkeyMcFluff

I was taught “Good tidings we bring, Of Jesus our King”.
Confused
pilates · 21/12/2020 07:04

When I was about 10 I thought it was 1 but it is 2.

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 21/12/2020 07:06

Kin. I thought it was glad tidings though but Google says I’m wrong on that one.

jumperweather · 21/12/2020 07:07

I have always thought it was King for the last 30years! Then. I watched Mr Tumble and I learnt it was Kin! Shocker

@UndertheCedartree

Kin! But I used to think it was 'king' when I was a child!

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 21/12/2020 07:36

It's 2.

When I was small and thought it was 'king' I had some vague idea it represented carollers coming from another country, and that was why they were bringing the glad tidings to our king. When I had my first Christmas at school we were all put firmly right by the teacher.

Longdistance · 21/12/2020 07:39

It’s 2.

Ex church choir singer here 🎶

Lizadork · 21/12/2020 07:48

Forever will be King
Don't care what google says

Herja · 21/12/2020 07:54

Kin! And I have only ever heard 'Glad tidings' rather than 'good tidings' too. I have just checked my music and carol books - all 'glad' and 'kin'.

FourEyesGood · 21/12/2020 07:56

Agree with ‘kin’, but also agree with PPs who say it’s ‘glad’ rather than ‘good’.

GingersHaveSoulsToo · 21/12/2020 08:35

Thought it was King until recently Blush
Yes kin

FuzzyPuffling · 21/12/2020 08:37

It's 2 "kin". Always has been, always will be, no discussion required.

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2020 08:37

Logically it needs to be kin....

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 21/12/2020 08:50

Cannot believe how I've got to 56 not knowing this!
