Settle a debate between me and DH. The song ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’ are the lyrics

1. Good tiding we bring to you and your king

Or

1. Good tidings we bring to you and your kin

I was taught “Good tidings we bring, Of Jesus our King”.

When I was about 10 I thought it was 1 but it is 2.

Kin. I thought it was glad tidings though but Google says I’m wrong on that one.

I have always thought it was King for the last 30years! Then. I watched Mr Tumble and I learnt it was Kin! Shocker

When I was small and thought it was 'king' I had some vague idea it represented carollers coming from another country, and that was why they were bringing the glad tidings to our king. When I had my first Christmas at school we were all put firmly right by the teacher.

Kin! And I have only ever heard 'Glad tidings' rather than 'good tidings' too. I have just checked my music and carol books - all 'glad' and 'kin'.

Agree with ‘kin’, but also agree with PPs who say it’s ‘glad’ rather than ‘good’.

lol, I always thought it was King too! And I’ll admit, yes, it didn’t make perfect sense but they loved Royalty ‘back then’ didn’t they?! 😂😬
