Settle a debate between me and DH. The song ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’ are the lyrics

  1. Good tiding we bring to you and your king
Or
  1. Good tidings we bring to you and your kin

2, kin, ie family.

DappledThings · 20/12/2020 23:58

Yep, definitely kin. Which one were you OP?!

OwlinaTree · 20/12/2020 23:59

Kin

Leaannb · 20/12/2020 23:59

@noworklifebalance

Kin! (Family, rather than our non-existent male monarch, unless they meant King David but I don’t think they were singing carols back then!)
No bit they were during King George IV which is when this carol first popped up in written history. I can see why people say king

Kin

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/12/2020 00:02

Kin. Like a pp this was drummed in to us at primary school.

LindaEllen · 21/12/2020 00:02

Kin but I think most kids learn it as king (unless they see it written down) as kin isn't really a word kids use - or adults these days really.

Most people have a lightbulb moment with that one at some point!

Nottherealslimshady · 21/12/2020 00:04

Wtf?! I always thought King.

RunnerK · 21/12/2020 00:07

Kin.

SkiingIsHeaven · 21/12/2020 00:09

OP. Who won the argument?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 21/12/2020 00:09

Kin. We also had a primary school teacher who drummed it into us.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 21/12/2020 00:20

Why didn't you just google it! No need for a debate.

Christ alive, can no one ask a simple question anymore without some miserable sod picking it to bits? Scroll on if you’re that bothered! Get a grip and a life, in that order!

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 21/12/2020 00:23

@Nottherealslimshady

Wtf?! I always thought King.
And me! They're probably all wrong and we're right 😀
notangelinajolie · 21/12/2020 00:23

2 kin

youvegottenminuteslynn · 21/12/2020 00:28
  1. 100%! I would've googled it right away out of smugness if someone insisted otherwise. But that might make me a prick Grin
DonkeyMcFluff · 21/12/2020 00:29

I was taught “Good tidings we bring, Of Jesus our King”.

BashfulClam · 21/12/2020 00:31

Kin, drummed into us as primary school, I hate that song!

LabradorGalore · 21/12/2020 00:36

As a child I thought it was King. Only realised when helping my own child learn the lyrics for their nativity. I’ve never felt more stupid. It’s definitely kin.

ThisIsMeOrIsIt · 21/12/2020 00:39

Kin, meaning family.

Why would someone wish you and your monarch a happy Christmas?! Confused

ParlezVousWronglais · 21/12/2020 00:47

Oh. I always thought it was king. But kin makes more sense.

User478 · 21/12/2020 00:55

Glad scans better than good...

Kin definitely.

AndcalloffChristmas · 21/12/2020 01:17

Kim, but small children always say king, and a lot of people sing king for a joke. But knowing that the real word is kin.

Sweettea1 · 21/12/2020 01:17

I thought it king (seems am wrong) and if I questioned it I would just Google it or you tube with subtitles not make a post on here about it.

timeforanewstart · 21/12/2020 01:18

2 but I must admit for years I thought it was king
