I know I’m being unreasonable but I’m so fucked off.

I’m 6 months pregnant and have been ill and just wanted a little time to myself after Christmas and now the fucking nursery is shut.

I know so many people are worse off but I was so looking forward to a week for me.

Fuck fuck fuck it all.

You're not being in the slightest bit unreasonable.

I've got 3 days off my youngest child in jan and if the childminder suddenly had to isolate, I'd feel the same!

SlowTango · 20/12/2020 18:56

Now I’m panicking....We’re in Scotland and found this on BBC last night so thought we’d be ok. Haven’t heard anything from our nursery yet

I am and I don’t care
Sexnotgender · 20/12/2020 18:58

Yeah the Scottish government website says that but their twitter says this.

I am and I don’t care

YANfuckingBU. Not even a bit.

An0n0n0n · 20/12/2020 19:03

Can you get your OH to take some leave? And what about special leave or getting signed off?

Managing a job and toddler is unworkable, esp for your mental health. There's a reason pretty much all employers pre covid wouldn't let you work and look after a child simultaneously. Be kind to yourself.

But get OH to do his fair share. Or at the very very least take over on his days off.

Sexnotgender · 20/12/2020 19:08

My DH very much does his share. He’s a gem.

Our nursery has emailed this afternoon too. The gov website info for childcare on level 4 means sweet feck all. Twitter is where it is and the council apparently emailed too. AngryAngryAngry
CigarsofthePharoahs · 20/12/2020 19:19

You're six months pregnant? You can be as unreasonable as you like in my book.
I remember being very ill with my second pregnancy and ds1 had turned three and had gone from the worlds sweetest toddler to an utter threenager overnight. I didn't think I could be more exhausted.
Actually I could be as ds2 decided that sleep was for the weak.
This is what TV is for. It's not ideal I know, but sometimes, for the sake of everyone's sanity, it's needed.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/12/2020 19:23

Of course you are not unreasonable.

It's shit to have the rug swept from under your feet.

Kissthepastrychef · 20/12/2020 19:37

How utterly fucking shit OP 💐.

SnackySnack · 20/12/2020 19:40

You are allowed to want a break OP! Its happened to me before and I was PISSED. Flowers

porcelinaofthevastoceanss · 20/12/2020 19:47

This whole situation is shit. No nursery for 10 months for us as both myself and DS have respiratory issues. I have a 4 month old too. Not a day of childcare for all that time. Pass me all the wine.

Oh god. I didn't realise Scotland had closed childcare. If that happens here I'll cry.

I shouldn't. I'm on maternity leave, they're my children. But I'm so not cut out to be a SAHM, especially with everything closed.

Good luck OP. Moan away. Moan away.

SlowTango · 20/12/2020 20:01

Ah feck. Feck. Feck. Feck. January is going to be even worse then than I already thought. I share your pain OP, I’m also pregnant with a two year old. We are absolutely NOT being unreasonable. Off to drown my sorrows with a soft drink and comfort food

peanacat · 20/12/2020 20:02

@ImPrincessAurora Not to worry you, but are you sure yours is open over Christmas? I only got told on Thursday that mine closes over the whole Christmas period until Jan 4th. Every year they close as it’s a ‘holiday’ for them apparently, so nothing to do with Covid. Bloody lucky my DH is a teacher so that he can look after DD as I have to work! Nice of them to give me some notice 🙄

MaryShelley1818 · 20/12/2020 20:12

Another who feels your pain :(
8mths pregnant here with a just turned 3yr old at home and worked full time in a very stressful child protection role throughout plus studying for a full time degree.
I've also got 7 builders upstairs every day trying to complete a big extension before baby arrives, and both upstairs bathrooms ripped out.

Everything is messy and dusty.
I'm got sinusitis, sickness, gestational diabetes.
If nursery closes it will break me, I just need a few days to myself after Christmas.

ImPrincessAurora · 20/12/2020 20:13

@peanacat 😱
I guess I’ll find out at 8.15 tomorrow!!!

I’m in Scotland our nursery is waiting until the government have their consultation tomorrow.

peanacat · 20/12/2020 20:24

@Sexnotgender That’s something at least, though your situation otherwise sounds shit 😩 I was totally shocked to hear mine wasn’t open this week! Literally don’t know what I would’ve done if my DH couldn’t have her as I work in healthcare and its such short notice to just be like.. ‘Yeah.. so nursery isn’t open and I can’t come in’!

mumsyandtiredzz · 20/12/2020 20:26

Is there nothing in place for mums who still have to work from home? It’s a bit worrying to think of women having to work full-time whilst being completely responsible for a toddler. Can’t imagine it’s easy.

Sexnotgender · 20/12/2020 20:28

I doubt anything will change unfortunately.

Any idea when the consultation is?

Nope. I was reading a tragic story earlier about a toddler that drowned in a hot tub because their mum was trying to work and look after him🙁

another one handing out Flowers and Cake and [tea]. I'm living in dread of the schools in London not re-opening and I have a 7 & 9 year old who at least can be palmed off with an iPad for half an hour. And a DH who gets it - we're a team - he got a lie in yesterday and me today.

You have my endless sympathy @Sexnotgender, as fucking useless as it is. That's shit.

Feel miserable. Eat all the chocolate. You bloody deserve it.
