Not to understand the point of his and hers handbasins?

I've never felt the need for company when washing or brushing my teeth. Somehow my family manages morning and evening routines without having to double-up in the bathroom. Why would I want an extra item of bathroom furniture to clean?

I'm with you. We have his and hers sinks in our en-suite. Here when we moved in.
In 3 years I don't think the 2nd sink has even been used. We both use the same one.

DelphineWalsh · 20/12/2020 09:55

Oh thank god I'm not the only one. Its just another sink to clean and like you say, who wants company in the bathroom?

wellthatsunusual · 20/12/2020 09:55

We end up in the bathroom at the same time all the time. And my husband, although he is generally wonderful, does have that typical male behaviour of taking up all the space (in this case standing square in front of the basin, leaning one hand on the side) and I always have to elbow him in the ribs to get him to move. I'd love two basins.

And my husband does most of the basin cleaning upstairs, whilst I always do the downstairs one. So I wouldn't even have an extra sink to clean. It would be a win win situation in my house.

Hopdathelf · 20/12/2020 09:55

Total waste of space.

CaurnieBred · 20/12/2020 09:55

Love having separate sinks. When we only had the one bathroom, it meant getting ready for work in the morning was more streamlined.
Now we have an ensuite, we have space for separate cabinets too which means all his mucky shaving stuff is in his and we don't have to share a toothpaste tube Grin

MajesticWhine · 20/12/2020 09:57

Having had 2 sinks for 20 years I honestly wouldn't like to go back to 1. Anyway I can spit out into his sink and keep mine nice and clean - no problem Grin

tiredqueen · 20/12/2020 09:57

I love our Jack and Jill sinks! I have my stuff on my sink and in the respective half of the cupboard above. DH has his stuff around his. We had ours put in when we did our bathroom a few years ago and I'd never go back now!

pinkbalconyrailing · 20/12/2020 10:00

we had that when growing up. though it was in the only bathroom for 7-8 people.

without 2 sinks mornings would have been impossible!

we had a boys and a ladies sink though. all the shaving stubble in one, make up streaks in the other...

WorrierorWarrior · 20/12/2020 10:01

I don't see the point of two basins in the bathroom. In this house we all use the bathrooms separately (apart from any very young children). I would not want anyone in the bathroom with me whether having a bath or shower or cleaning my teeth and definitely not while "waste disposing". Some things are best done in private.

ladykuga · 20/12/2020 10:05

I've inherited one in new home. It's in the process of being upgraded but me and 7 yr old DD are really looking forward to using our personal 'beauty/bathing' stations.Grin

helloxhristmas · 20/12/2020 10:07

I love it wouldn't go back to one. My husband has a horrible habit of not rinsing after shaving or brushing his teeth. Utterly grim.

Not one for shitting with company @WorrierorWarrior ? 😂.
Bargebill19 · 22/12/2020 00:21

I like the idea. Would love the space. Hate the idea of something else to clean.
On balance - not for me.

KarmaNoMore · 22/12/2020 00:26

Oh hell no, I don’t want to have company when brushing my teeth ir doing my make up. We always had an unspoken rule that he would use the toilet first and leave it totally free for me by the time I woke up (I guess this would have been a problem had I also been a morning person)

BaronessBomburst · 22/12/2020 00:33

Who wants two sinks? I want two separate en-suites to the master bedroom. And two separate dressing rooms. And staff.

ChestnutStuffing · 22/12/2020 00:37

I think people find this useful depending on their bathroom habits. If people tend to take a long time in the bathroom shaving or applying make-up, and need to get ready at the same time, it can be useful.

For people who can stagger their times, or have enough bathrooms to just use a different one, or really like privacy, it won't be so useful.

ChestnutStuffing · 22/12/2020 00:38

Though, one of the most useful arrangements I've had in a place with high bathroom usage for the number of people was a small sink in one or several bedrooms. So people could do their shave etc in there. Though not for kids' rooms.

BrutusMcDogface · 22/12/2020 00:41

I’d love it. We often end up getting ready at the same time. We don’t shit in front of eachother but why on earth wouldn’t you brush your teeth next to your spouse?

Mumbum2011 · 22/12/2020 00:42

I'd love it!

Aquamarine1029 · 22/12/2020 00:43

I love it. I have my side with all my stuff and my husband has his. We are frequently using our sinks at the same time.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 22/12/2020 00:46

Bigger counters do more cupboard space, helpful, 2 sinks to wash? Shit designing because often they are shoe horned into a space too small

Isn’t the rushing your siblings to the bathroom then taking your sweet time a form of building resilience for them?
(Even better if you only have one toilet and you do the same when they are busting...)

PercyPiginaWig · 22/12/2020 00:51

I like it, it was in the house when we moved in, had thought about getting one big basin if we change the bathroom but I'm quite used to having my own sink now.

@MajesticWhine I like your style!

@ChestnutStuffing there were bedroom sinks in some of the student houses i shared. They were definitely used by some of the guys (maybe some of the girls, I don't know) for peeing. Shock

AlwaysLatte · 22/12/2020 01:07

I don't really see the point. My husband asked me if I wanted another basin in the ensuite when we had it redone and I said no. We usually just take it in turns to do our teeth - you only have to wait a few minutes, after all!

Anotherducker · 22/12/2020 01:22

I love having two sinks. It’s not just brushing teeth, it’s washing your face, shaving, makeup, all the mirror use. It means the children have one each at bedtime too which is useful.

Californiabakes · 22/12/2020 01:30

I’m with you OP, don’t see the point
