Not to understand the point of his and hers handbasins?

I've never felt the need for company when washing or brushing my teeth. Somehow my family manages morning and evening routines without having to double-up in the bathroom. Why would I want an extra item of bathroom furniture to clean?

@PercyPiginaWig

I like it, it was in the house when we moved in, had thought about getting one big basin if we change the bathroom but I'm quite used to having my own sink now.

@MajesticWhine I like your style!

@ChestnutStuffing there were bedroom sinks in some of the student houses i shared. They were definitely used by some of the guys (maybe some of the girls, I don't know) for peeing. Shock

That does not surprise me, now that you say it. Men seem much more inclined to pee in unconventional places.

I don't think I'd want to encourage that though I suppose if they cleaned the sink out properly there is really nothing wrong with it.

I would totally have two if we had the space, bot me and fiancé have long hair and neither of us are morning people so it would be nice to not need to take turns and wait for 20 minutes for the other person to get ready etc especially if we are on a schedule. I do think once you have a lager family it shortens the time needed to get ready.

I doubt anyone with two sinks is doing it for the company but rather to cut the getting ready time in the morning in half

Moved abroad and every bathroom when we rented had two sinks. Moved back, and we now have two sinks. It is so much easier.

Who wants to share a bathroom!?

VetiverAndLavender · 22/12/2020 02:38

When our house was built, we decided to have only one sink installed where two had been planned, but we kept the long vanity/countertop and eventually put in a long mirror that goes across the whole thing. Even when we're both in there at the same time, it's rare that we need the sink urgently at the same moment. What we do find useful is all the extra surface space. As long as I have access to a mirror, I don't need an extra sink that has to be kept clean and clog-free.

(We also took out the toilet and sink in a planned water closet and turned it into a large storage closet/pantry at the edge of the kitchen. I've never regretted having fewer toilets and basins to clean!)

Agreed! We have one sink and extra vanity counter and I love it...with teen girls, they need counter space more than sink space.

tootesuite · 22/12/2020 03:16

I'd love my own basin, dh leaves beard hairs in his. DH cleans the bathroom so 2 basins wouldn't be extra work for me.

Ragwort · 22/12/2020 03:47

We've been lucky enough to have separate bathrooms for the last 20 years, we will probably downsize soon when we retire and the one thing I am dreading is having to share a bathroom (third world problem I know Blush).

Cowgran · 22/12/2020 05:42

We have two basins in our ensuite and it's actually annoying. The second one is too close to the wall and the shower is right behind you so you feel very cramped when using it, plus the pipes take up valuable cupboard space.

@BrutusMcDogface

I’d love it. We often end up getting ready at the same time. We don’t shit in front of eachother but why on earth wouldn’t you brush your teeth next to your spouse?
Because in a zillion years of marriage there has never been any need to?

As for doing make-up, hair etc, we have more than one mirror in the house and don't have to hog the bathroom for that purpose.
