According to McConnell's introduction, the Republicans and Democrats each control an hour of the two hours allocated before the vote.

So in theory, the Democrats could forego most of "their" hour and bring forward the vote.

In theory, so could McConnell for the Republicans Wink

I think they have to wait the full 2 hours. And in this case even if they didn't, I think they would anyway. The rules say 'will debate for 2 hours' and doesn't say anything about being able to close the debate early if there are no more speakers before the two hours are up. That runs the risk of someone saying later that they 'didn't get their chance' because the debate was called early.

Cruz is speaking now. TV going on mute. Then I'm going to make speaking gestures with my fingers and thumb and go 'Wah wahwah wah wah' like in the Charlie Brown shows.

I think you're right. If the Dems decline to speak it just means the Republicans can use the entire 2 hours

I am SO glad to see no counter-protesters (so far). Let the PB and Trumpistas tear themselves apart and try to attack law enforcement and the DC NG. Let them have to accept full blame for any violence, injuries, and (God forbid) deaths without being able to blame it on Antifa or BLM.

"In the primary of June ,we had 880,000 show up. In the general election, we had about 970,000. I’m spitballing here. … And we had 1.3 million show up yesterday,"* Sterling said at a press conference.

"One of the things we haven’t heard about this election is nobody was complaining about lines. Nobody’s saying they were disenfranchised," Sterling said. "Everybody who wanted to vote had the opportunity to vote."

He said the number of people who voted in the runoff elections "blows every turnout model away" and added he saw "no evidence" of election irregularities"

Cruz’s argument seems to be that because 40% of the public believe something which is untrue is actually true, instead of Congress making clear unanimously that it’s untrue, it’s instead incumbent upon Congress to take the belief of those untruths seriously.
