If Hawley does go through with his objections, this is going to delay the certification of the vote as each objection involves TWO HOURS of debate/meetings of each house of Congress, then back to the joint session for a vote. The amount allowed for voting can vary, but I'd assume they'd be given at least 1-2 hours to be sure each legislator gets a chance to vote. That would be a 3-4 hour delay (minimum) on EACH OBJECTION. Even if the assholes only file objections on the 5 swing states that's a total delay of 15-20 hours or between 2 and 3 session days. That would mean the election wouldn't be certified until around 9 Jan.

This is getting ridiculous.

OOPS! I made a procedural error.

Each chamber of Congress votes separately on the objections (after the 2 hour debate period). They don't return for a joint vote. But both the House and the Senate must uphold the objection for the electoral votes of the contested state to be tossed out.

Seriously, he has an overseas diplomatic trip due to start on that day. He conveniently has arranged to be out of the country immediately after Congress meeting presumably to avoid having furniture thrown at him by Trump

I wonder if the expected delay will cause him to bow out due to 'other commitments' and let Sen Grassley preside as president pro tem of the Senate.

However, that hasn’t stopped President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for sticking to their annual traditions.

The annual New Year’s Eve gala at Mar-a-Lago that the President and First Lady have been hosting for many years is still going to happen this year. In fact, CNN has reported that 500 guests have already sent in their RSVP to the black tie event.

In November, Stephanie Grisham, the chief of staff and spokeswoman for the First Lady, assured SheKnows of the safety precautions being taken for White House Christmas and Hanukah events. These included smaller guest lists, mask requirements, encouraged social distancing and hand sanitization stations.

Tom Mountain, a Massachusetts Republican leader, had a different view on what actually went down at the White House Hanukkah party. He told WJAR that “People would just leisurely and gingerly take off their mask.” He indirectly appeared to blame the event for him getting COVID-19 saying how before the event he was perfectly healthy, but after he was “in the hospital . . . and ready to be put on a life saving ventilator.”

About that poll for "most admired man":

Out of "a random sample of 1,018 adults across the country in the first weeks of December", 18% voted for Trump. So that's 183.24 (or rather, between 179 and 188, rounded for an exact percentage number) people who think he's terrific. Clearly they outweigh the 84 million who don't...
