I am being a total grinch, I get it. But last day of term and the 400 Merry Christmas, thanks everyone for being so great, thanks class reps for organising presents, I love this class so much... messages have started. At last count I was on 15 messages in the last 30 minutes.

This, of course, follows the endless confirmations we've had this week such as, "Ooh, johnny didn't get a Christmas card from the teacher, is there a mistake" and then every single person checking in to say that yes, they got theirs.

I know, I know, just mute or exit group. But usually it's actually pretty sensible and v useful. It's just this crazy end of term at Christmas thing!!!!

1st world problem.

Spied · 18/12/2020 16:17

The people who invest a bit too much in these school class apps need to get a life.
Pity them and move onSmile

PinGwyn · 18/12/2020 16:19

I have no idea if such a thing exists at my kids schools.

I don't need to know other parents and teachers give me updates, why would you need social media groups? 🤨

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2020 16:21

I am sooo glad this was not a thing when my two were at school, it would have given me the absolute rage.

I only gave my mobile number to a very select few parents!

yorkshirepuddddiiing · 18/12/2020 16:22

Yanbu

Some parents are way too invested in their kids school life. It's sad really.

I've made a lot of friends through taking my kids to school, I'm not a drop and run kind of parent, but I can't be doing with the obsessive PTA /WhatsApp group types Xmas Envy

BertieBotts · 18/12/2020 16:23

Just mute the group! You can mute it for a whole year if you want to :o

SpaceOp · 18/12/2020 16:24

To be fair, I think it might be that one person does it and then everyone feels sort of obliged. Im' resisting but I feel myself thinking, "god, do I look like a total dick if I don't also say thank you and Merry Christmas?"

Come January we'll all be back to the usual "don't forget they need to take their PE kit to school" today stuff. Can't wait. Or, my personal favourite, "I am not sure who Jack's mummy is, but he's with me standing outside the Tesco...." when Jack had done a runner! hahahaha. V useful.

I’m so glad I’m a teacher at my daughter’s school and have that as an excuse not to get involved!

edwinbear · 18/12/2020 16:37

YANBU. On ours last week, one mum wrote a huge, 500 word essay of drivel on how grateful she was to the teachers and all key workers in general, how badly they are treated, how she couldn’t do their job, the government should be ashamed etc etc. It was painful to read through, especially as DC are at an independent school and have it much easier than most. So many others jumped on the band wagon, it was embarrassing, so much virtue signalling.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 18/12/2020 16:48

Just don’t read it then!

I don’t understand the whatsapp group moaning. Just silence it.

It’s been a fucking awful year. Let those who want to gush do so

I hate how 'it's been a tough year' is being used every time annoying behaviour is mentioned. People were annoying before the pandemic too; some of us like venting about it. Let us just do it, it's been a tough year after all...
SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 18/12/2020 16:52

I was part of a similar Whatsapp group, but not school. Sooo much trawling through drivel to find the one piece of info that is actually useful. I've just taken myself off there now, after it all kicked off over people posting 'too early' by someone who should easily have worked out how to mute it... DH is still on it, and in theory is in charge of looking out for the relevant stuff but doesn't Xmas Grin

LiJo2015 · 18/12/2020 16:53

Can you just mute it?

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 18/12/2020 16:55

My kids do a club, it’s useful to be on the chat for reminders about deadlines, costumes and so on. But for some reason it’s become a thing for every parent to announce when they’ve paid the next half term’s fees. WHY??????

ancientgran · 18/12/2020 16:55

I think pre Christmas madness always happens, might be a bit worse this year.

Parker231 · 18/12/2020 16:56

Some people have too much time on their hands. Thankfully we didn’t have WhatsApp when mine were at school - we survived!

Topseyt · 18/12/2020 16:59

Just silence it.

I’m really glad these WhatsApp things were not around when my three were at school. It would have driven me up the wall.

BigBadVoodooHat · 18/12/2020 17:00

@LiJo2015

Can you just mute it?
Nah, it's a much more productive solution to whinge about it on MN.

Why make your life easier with one quick & simple finger-press on a screen? What would be the point of that? Wink

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2020 17:02

I am in a work Google one, there's people who read everything and never comment, people who always comment on everything and those that never seem to read or comment. I think you soon learn who is which one, so you could be the one who never comments.

HostaFireAndIce · 18/12/2020 17:03

I don't need to know other parents and teachers give me updates, why would you need social media groups?

At our school, the teachers tell the reps to set up WhatsApp groups and then they give messages to the reps to pass on.

ChickenyChick · 18/12/2020 17:05

just mute the chat?

Easy

Piwlyfbicsly · 18/12/2020 17:05

I understand completely. Driving me insane!! How all the busy parents working full time find the time to endlessly chat, is beyond me. I check it only sometimes these days.

Benjispruce2 · 18/12/2020 17:07

Leave the group. Relax. You will e given any important info by the school. So glad this didn’t exist when mine were in primary.

Sprig1 · 18/12/2020 17:08

This is why have not joined my class WhatsApp group and never will.

GoodbyeToCare · 18/12/2020 17:09
