Does a xmas grocery slot mean I'll get my turkey?

BexR · 16/12/2020 19:29

I've got a morrisons slot on 22nd. Booked ages ago and added a turkey.

Turkeys have been sold out online ever since but still showing in my order.

It did say when I ordered "add to order by 17th" which I did.

So aibu to expect that they know I have ordered a turkey and will therefore send one? Or is it like any other online order where it depends what's in the shop on the day?

Totally depends what’s in the shop on the day.

Roselilly36 · 16/12/2020 19:32

Not a certainty, have a back up plan just in case.

Waveysnail · 16/12/2020 19:33

No

Bytheriogrande · 16/12/2020 19:35

Totally depends what’s in the shop on the day.

Not with Morrisons, they operate the same model as ocado so it's not picked in store so there do tend to be less substitutions. I don't think there are any guarantees though!

JustBumblingAlong · 16/12/2020 19:35

It depends what shop it is. If it’s Ocado it’ll be different to an actual shop supermarket where they’re picking from the shop floor. Supermarkets try to use the checked out baskets to help with stock ordering which is why it isn’t very helpful to them to reserve slots with gin and fill it up at the last minute (guilty)

OppsUpsSide · 16/12/2020 19:35

I’d ring the store and ask, they should have factored the on line orders into their management

OppsUpsSide · 16/12/2020 19:36

*stock management

LastChristmas19 · 16/12/2020 19:37

Nope. Depends on the stock when the order is picked in the morning so no guarantee at all so have a back up plan. I would be more confident with Tesco but Morrison’s are poop. I’ve tried their delivery service a few weeks and I had 20 subs!! Usually have zero with Tesco.

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 16/12/2020 19:37

Nope op.

LastChristmas19 · 16/12/2020 19:38

@Bytheriogrande my local Morrison’s has pickers walking around in store doing online deliveries like any other supermarket 🤔

SlippersForFlippers · 16/12/2020 19:39

Nope that's why I got mine booked for the 22nd so I can do last minute shopping on the 23rd and do nothing on the 24th!

Butterymuffin · 16/12/2020 19:39

Don't know but I've done the same. My order is for the 21st and if the bird is missing, I'll have time to make a lightning dash to an actual shop. I think the 17th thing is so they can have an idea of demand though so I'm hopeful.

Tomcullenisahero · 16/12/2020 19:41

Last year I booked a slot a few days before Christmas for Sainsbury's, ordered absolutely everything for the big day including my frozen turkey. I got a message two days before my delivery to say the turkey was no longer in stock but would get a crown as a substitute. However there was no turkey crown in my delivery as it was also now out of stock. Not impressed!
I think if an order has been placed by online shoppers then stock should be considered and kept for these orders but this doesn't seem to happen. I hope you get one in your order but I don't trust this system anymore.

mutantelfoftraal · 16/12/2020 19:42

It depends how you ordered it - if it's Morrisons through Amazon then it's what is on the shelves on the day; ours comes from our not so local store.

I was on my Ocado order today and viewed it, it was telling me things I ordered weeks ago are now out of stock Shock

Bytheriogrande · 16/12/2020 19:42

@LastChristmas19 yes you're right sorry, just checked! I think it depends on the area you're in, ours comes from the ocado warehouse but just googled and they started to do more in store picking when they changed their deal late last year.

Teach me to not check my facts before I post Grin

TrainIsLeaving · 16/12/2020 19:42

@bytheriogrande I worked at Morrisons up until a month ago. We picked in-store.

ShalomToYouJackie · 16/12/2020 19:42

I always thought Morrisons worked like Ocado too, I had a Morrisons delivery driver tell me they use a similar system and it's all done in a warehouse rather than in store. But at the time I was miles from a big Morrisons supermarket.

Maybe if you're near a big store it comes from the shop?

TrainIsLeaving · 16/12/2020 19:42

Cross post sorry!

Topsyandtimison37 · 16/12/2020 19:47

Can you have back up in freezer? I know it means having two but you have peace of mind

Sexnotgender · 16/12/2020 19:48

Mine too.

BexR · 16/12/2020 19:48

Oh fuck. Isolating and no turkey. Will see what gets delivered on 22nd. Or beg a friend to get me a little crown.

Last time I relied on a delivery for my Christmas food they didn't deliver the meat, potatoes and half the veg. You'll probably be fine but I'd have someone on standby just in case.

Threeinthebedandlittleonesaid · 16/12/2020 20:04

Asda offered "food to order" for their Christmas slots and I ordered the turkey through that, appreciate anything else could be out of stock on the day but surely food to order means just that?

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 16/12/2020 20:05

If there’s not a lot of you, you could order a couple of ducks as a back up.

mutantelfoftraal · 16/12/2020 20:07

We're not having turkey this year, we're isolating and I couldn't be bothered with worrying if it would arrive or not so it's a roast chicken for us instead.
