Does a xmas grocery slot mean I'll get my turkey?

BexR · 16/12/2020 19:29

I've got a morrisons slot on 22nd. Booked ages ago and added a turkey.

Turkeys have been sold out online ever since but still showing in my order.

It did say when I ordered "add to order by 17th" which I did.

So aibu to expect that they know I have ordered a turkey and will therefore send one? Or is it like any other online order where it depends what's in the shop on the day?

Morrison’s have both a store pick model and an Ocado model. It depends entirely where you are in the U.K. as to which you get.

SaltyAF · 16/12/2020 20:11

I wasn't able to remove my turkey from my Tesco order in the run up to Christmas last year - I think supermarkets buy them in to fulfil orders. (on that note, will a turkey that's been frozen for a year be ok?)

VestaTilley · 16/12/2020 20:29

Ring your local butchers now and ask if they’ll have turkeys in on the 23rd, so if yours doesn’t show up you can ring them first thing and ask them to keep one for you to collect.

Supermarkets nearly always have turkeys and crowns left on Christmas Eve; just go early and buy frozen if needs be.

I got my food delivery today from Morrisons and the Turkey, pigs in blankets, potatoes, stuffing mix, Yorkshire puddings, smoked salmon and blinis were all missing :-( so annoying as I ordered weeks ago.

Well that's crap!

Ridiculous isnt it? What's the point in getting a xmas slot? I've got most of the stuff excepted turkey and fresh stuff.

Just got an Iceland order for 2moro so hopefully they do have turkeys, certainly looks like they do. If that arrives I'll delete the morrisons one and just make that order the fresh stuff (fingers crossed).

Online shopping with morrisons is a bit of a mystery these days since morrisons have moved away from ocado.

A couple of weeks ago I checked an order the night before delivery and it said the chicken breasts I'd ordered were out of stock. (Rather than you cant any more to trolley), so I put a different sized pack in trolley. Next morning the delivery driver turns up with more chicken breasts than I can fit in my freezer.

I placed a xmas order for my mother for 22 December, but was busy with work when I reserved slot so stuck in £75 quid of champagne in the trolley to reserve the slot, with the expectation of editing out when gave me her list. It's now not letting me delete the champagne. I could ask my mum to ask the driver to remove it from the crate when delivered, but she'll probably forget and get pissed at my expense instead

BexR · 16/12/2020 22:44

Oh god @RhubarbBikini I hope it let's me delete the turkey if I get one tomorrow. Although I guess the driver will take it (I would so keep champagne!)

Morrisons also turn up in unbranded white vans just to add to the mystery. I think mine comes from a shop cos ocado dont deliver in my area.

@Bytheriogrande

Totally depends what’s in the shop on the day.

Not with Morrisons, they operate the same model as ocado so it's not picked in store so there do tend to be less substitutions. I don't think there are any guarantees though!

Not any longer- they now pick from store. The Ocado relationship ended when M&S bought a share
MereDintofPandiculation · 16/12/2020 22:53

Depends which bit of the country you're in. I gather some Morrisons on-line is picked in store, but other areas are picked from a warehouse. Until Covid I never had a substitution, and I would be confident that now-out-of-stock items already checked out would arrive.

Though usually, if you try to edit your order, out-of-stock stuff that you've already got in your basket says "no more stok available" rather than "our of stock".

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/12/2020 22:55

Morrisons also turn up in unbranded white vans just to add to the mystery. Ours don't! We get texts in the morning saying "I'm Matthew, I'll be delivering your order... and so you know it's me, I'll be driving the cucumber van"

JacobReesMogadishu · 16/12/2020 22:59

Morrisons have been shit for me since they moved to in store picking. I have an annual pass with them but haven’t used them in months. Am paying for Tesco deliveries instead. Got sick to the back teeth of half my stuff not coming each week.

JacobReesMogadishu · 16/12/2020 23:00

Oh yes, the unbranded transit vans. Which I swear have no freezer/fridge facility as any frozen stuff is defrosted. It’s not a supermarket van shape, it’s literally a transit van!

BexR · 16/12/2020 23:03

I wonder if they took on lots of drivers during this shitstorm and havent had a chance to paint cucumbers on vans yet.

I dont get a personalised text naming the driver either :-(

planningaheadtoday · 16/12/2020 23:34

Morrison's ask that you choose items early so they can plan for orders. They pick and pack behind the scenes and not on the shop floor.

Having said that, often there are substitutions. So I don't know. There customer services might be able to help and are quite knowledgeable.

NellePorter · 16/12/2020 23:56

We used to get deliveries from Tesco but I gave up because there were so many substitutes and mistakes, plus short-dated items. Since Covid we have been using Morrisons and I can't fault them, maybe one or two substitutions which were perfectly reasonable. (We get the text with the driver's name and van description). They always turn up when they say they will too, which Tesco did not.

ChristmasCookies · 16/12/2020 23:57

Depends.

Tesco have a range they book and order in and your guaranteed to get it!

Emeraldshamrock · 17/12/2020 00:03

It is not worth the risk. I'd remove it and order from a local butcher.

CatholicKidston · 17/12/2020 00:06

Definitely order from a local butcher. It'll be tastier and you'll actually get it.

safariboot · 17/12/2020 00:16

Morrisons have a "Festive Feast" in their boxes, although it includes only a 1kg turkey joint so not great if you'll have lots of people.

Fingers crossed Iceland bring you one anyway.

Lachimolala · 17/12/2020 08:59

If it’s a good to order from the festive menu that you’ve paid a deposit on then yes you’ll most likely get it, if it’s just a normal shop then no there’s no guarantees unfortunately.

emilyfrost · 17/12/2020 09:03

No. Click and collect/home delivery slots work the same as they do the rest of the year - you get the item if it’s in store when the home shopper goes to pick your shopping.

Which of course is doubtful for many Christmas items, particularly a turkey.

The only way to guarantee a turkey is to order one through a separate specific turkey order, but not all supermarkets do this.

Lachimolala · 17/12/2020 09:23

*food even

BashfulClam · 17/12/2020 09:28

@VestaTilley the OP has said she’s isolating so she can’t go and pick up a turkey.

BexR · 19/12/2020 13:46

Iceland delivered. Cancelled morrison turkey. Hooray! Thanks all
