Is it right that Covid free Isle of Man and Guernsey receiving vaccines from the UK

Whilst we are in the midst of this second wave, is it right that vaccines are being sent to Guernsey and the Isle of Man where they have no restrictions and are living a normal life? Surely they can wait a month until we have things under control

Actually sod it only over 65s, NHS workers, carers, keyworker (yes that is you too teachers) and vulnerable people in tier three can have the vaccine. The rest of you will have to wait until it is running a muck around your community.

ShatnersWig · 16/12/2020 00:29

I see you chose to ignore my question to you bunwell

Not surprising. Too busy writing a letter for the Daily Fail perhaps?

myhobbyisouting · 16/12/2020 00:32

"My family are on island, am aware of entry requirements, we have done them! As have they, although once was enough, however we are expected to do frequently"

😂😂 ok. Good luck.....*bows out of reporter nonsense

Northernsoulgirl45 · 16/12/2020 00:40

Of course they should have it.

EileenGC · 16/12/2020 07:18

@bunwell

Why do you islanders deserve a vaccine? Having shut down and drawn the drawbridge up? What have these islands contributed in any way towards this discovery, scientifically, financially or in any way at all?
@bunwell What have YOU contributed? Please enlighten us, maybe I could also make a contribution and I don't know, skip a few priority groups on the vaccine list so I can get it quicker.

How do you know none of the islanders are involved in the vaccine's production, manufacturing and distribution processes? That is contributing. It's not like they're being gifted it, after being on a free-for-all holiday for almost a year. They've also had to make sacrifices.

Do you also think NZ and Australia, or the Caribbean islands that have managed to almost eradicate the virus locally, don't deserve to have the vaccine at the same time as everyone else? Why?

inquietant · 16/12/2020 07:31

Not sure the mainland UK should take the vaccine from other places just because we have SPECTACULARLY messed up our covid response.

Why should IOM have to stay locked down for longer? They have been responsible and cautious, whilst our PM has been a total useless ditherer.

That's not the IOM's fault, they didn't vote for the clown.

Kazzyhoward · 16/12/2020 07:40

How about IOM stop being a tax haven if it wants help from the rest of the UK who pay proper rates of tax?

bunwell · 16/12/2020 07:51

I think it should start on a needs basis, countries who have high rates of disease take priority in the initial stages. People (in all countries) shouldn’t be penalised for crap governments. My elderly relative here is at risk going to buy food, the island relatives are partying and at no risk and could wait a couple of months.

I’m at no risk and won’t get a vaccine for years, if ever, so that’s not an issue.

Sideorderofchips · 16/12/2020 07:55

Smacks of jealously that the ops family gets a vagually normal life but can't leave the island

If you know soooo much about it because of family then you would know to bow out of this due to ignorance.

Have you always been so vile or has covid made it worse?

Your post is like a car crash that keeps getting worse and worse.

EileenGC · 16/12/2020 08:01

You still haven't answered the question OP. What contributions have you made that make you and your UK relatives more deserving of the vaccine than your IOM ones?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2020 08:02

Places that have kept covid out will have helped the rest of us by using less than their share of medicines.
I for one am grateful to them for that!

EileenGC · 16/12/2020 08:04

But it's the population that voted for the crap governments. It's not just about the right to vote, it's a responsibility. People in the UK voted for this shit-show, now don't complain when you realise other countries didn't do the same mistake and are in a better position, virus or not.

EnPoinsettia · 16/12/2020 08:07

I fucking hate this kind of attitude.

bunwell · 16/12/2020 08:09

Certainly I’m envious of their freedoms, however they are suffering from not seeing family off island. One has recently had medical treatment in the mainland and found the isolating for 14 days on return very hard.

Vaccines should be for where people are most at risk of the disease, particularly poor areas who have no access to hand washing or mask. Countries where life is pretty normal can surely wait a while.

Parker231 · 16/12/2020 08:12

Every country in the world has an equal right to the vaccine. It may take months to vaccinate every one in the U.K. as vaccines won’t all be coming to the U.K. supplies are needed in Brazil, India, Belgium, Germany etc. The U.K. doesn’t have a greater right than anywhere else

saraclara · 16/12/2020 08:19

What a hateful OP.

Have you always disliked your relatives on the island, or is it just jealousy?

I don't believe for a minute you'd accept it if we didn't get the vaccine in the UK for years because it was going to Syria first, either.

900 vaccines going to the Isle of Man is a drop in the ocean and won't make the slightest difference to when your elderly relative gets vaccinated.

saraclara · 16/12/2020 08:21

Vaccination can't be done on a 'one country first and then another', basis. The virus has to be addressed on all fronts so that freedom of movement can gradually be reintroduced.

eaglejulesk · 16/12/2020 08:23

You are not in charge of who gets the vaccination OP so why don't you keep your nasty little thoughts to yourself. It's patently obvious most people on this thread disagree with you.

bunwell · 16/12/2020 08:29

I love my island relatives and can’t wait to see them. However I feel other family members should have a vaccine first as they are at risk. My contribution to the vaccine is nil as I am not a scientist. We are a medical family and have two doctors working on Covid wards at high risk, also a research scientist involved in trials who is part of vaccine trial.

OP posts:
Sideorderofchips · 16/12/2020 08:46

Seriously OP. You are digging yourself a deeper and deeper hole with your attitude.

GrouchyKiwi · 16/12/2020 08:47

This pandemic really has brought some horrible attitudes out into the open.

EileenGC · 16/12/2020 08:50

I'm sure on the IOM there's also plenty of doctors and research scientists, so that doesn't make you or your family better than anyone else. The islands have a much smaller population so it's normal that their vulnerable residents will be vaccinated in a matter of days. The UK is more populated than Guernsey or IOM, therefore it will take some extra months to get everyone their vaccines but it should get to your vulnerable relative soon, don't worry. And please stop being so hateful.

MorrisZapp · 16/12/2020 08:53

You don't seem to understand the vaccine programme at all.

sodapoppinkypie · 16/12/2020 08:59

We're COVID free on the Isle of Man because 90% of us followed the rules and did as we were told . Some of us can't leave the island to see family we may be free to do as we please on the island but as an island we're shut no one can come in or leave with out a faff. So considering we paid for the vaccines and haven't just been given them we should be allowed to get on with the vaccinations and be able to go back to completely normal in the next few months .
