Bill and Oti for the win!! Bill showing middle aged men how it’s done! And the perfect end to a weird year....

I adore Oti and think Bill has astonished everyone by not being really crap so would be pretty pleased if they won.

Harvey and Maisie are both stage school trained so it doesnt seem fair to me to pit them (with their early training) against people who have literally never danced properly before (Bill, Ranvir). Plus, although I am warming to her more in the last couple of weeks, in the early stages I found Maisie almost unbearably smug. She is a very good dancer but boy does she know it!!

I think Jamie is an absolute joy. He was utterly rubbish in the beginning but has tried really hard. His tango was under-marked, I thought. He is self-deprecating and well mannered. I am pleasantly surprised as I loathe Mic or any of that ‘scripted reality’ rubbish so was expecting to dislike him.

But the producers choose them to be on the show? I loved Maisies dances this week and Ranvir looked as though she was about to collapse witb exhaustion

I couldn't agree more. I had no preconceptions either way as I'd never seen MIC and only knew about him through his very brief appearance on Strictly last year, so he has been a lovely surprise to me. He is unfailingly positive and gracious even though he must know he's not popular. I've nothing but good things to say about him. Apart from that I'd prefer it if Bill won Grin Sorry Jamie, nothing personal, I just love Bill and Oti.

NeedToKnow101 · 15/12/2020 14:36

I like Jamie too! He's fab! Still Bill and Oti or HVY to win for me though..

Mrsjayy · 15/12/2020 16:22

I don't understand why people are annoyed by Maisie but love Harvey confident young people but one has been described as cocky and smug I don't get it ?

IntermittentParps · 15/12/2020 16:38

Mrsjayy, I don't like either of them. [equal opportunities] Grin

Mrsjayy · 15/12/2020 16:39

MrsMiaWallis agree absolutely about Caroline and Maisie. I was gutted when Caroline went (though i always thought her and Johannes seemed a bit awkward together).

Heaven forbid a young woman be confident in herself, we can't have that Hmm

If I looked like Maisie and could dance like that I'd be bloody confident!!

@Flibbertigibbet2211

Slight digression, but not having watched EastEnders for many years, I hadn't realised until very recently that Maisie is actually the original Tiffany (the redhead not the very first Tiffany after whom she's called) and had played her since childhood. She wears a lot of fake tan!

She also, as an adult, looks so like Patsy Palmer that when I first saw her on Strictly I thought, "But she's been in it before, hasn't she?" Suppose Patsy Palmer looks a lot older now, but the time lapse hadn't registered with me.

I find it really weird when they introduce Maisie every week as "from EastEnders, Maisie Whateverhernameis", rather than "actress Maisie x".

I actually think she's really like Stacey Dooley to look at at listen to!

How dare she eh !

I've been a huge Bill fan for years and am delighted by the way he's turned expectations upside down on Strictly this year. Ok, he's not in the same league as Harvey (buy a vowel!) or Maisie but he is still a genuinely good dancer. I love the camaraderie he has with Oti - although she's so lovely, I can't see her failing to bond with anyone, and they are absolute joy to watch. This year, more than ever, I want to see people dancing with joy and happiness. I know that technicality is important and either Harvey or Maisie will win on that basis and it will be well deserved but to me, Bill captures the spirit of dancing.

I've really fallen for Jamie too, after expecting not to like him. All of the above re Joy, relationship with dancing partner, applies to him too.

I think the comparisons between Bill and Caroline are a little unfair though. Yes, older women don't tend to do well on strictly and Caroline had the skill to stay longer than she did but I have to say that she really didn't come across well, personality-wise and her relationship with Johannes seemed strained at times. I think that was her downfall more than her age. I say this as someone who utterly worshipped her in the 90s.

IntermittentParps · 15/12/2020 17:15

I know that technicality is important and either Harvey or Maisie will win on that basis and it will be well deserved but to me, Bill captures the spirit of dancing.

I'm not sure the winner will win on technical ability; often it's more down to personality/partnership with the pro/the dances and music on the night. In Bill's case I agree, he and Oti seem to have captured the spirit of dancing.

I think Caroline came across terribly. She seemed like a serious luvvie and I don't think she and Johannes got on at all.

Mrsjayy · 15/12/2020 17:17

My dd went with her friend to see Bill as a last minute thing she wasn't keen but said he was brilliant and really talented.

StormyInTheNorth · 15/12/2020 17:57

Haven't watched for years because I can't manage whooping or due to a dance background, thumbs, singing along and the messing about not in hold. However, DD is dance mad and old enough to watch so I've come back.
Bill+Metallica has saved it for me. His musicality makes up for his lack of fitness. I also think he's all round brill!
I think that a lot of actors/newsreaders/stagey people are used to learning things really quickly therefore they are able to pick the routines up and then practice, whereas those who don't have that as part of their day job haven't got that advantage.
Jamie who frankly rubbish when he started has been on a journey whereas Ranvir was all slow ballroom but showed no improvement on her Latin.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 16/12/2020 07:56

I've watched a few things now with Jamie on them and he throws himself at them with just as much energy and enthusiasm , there was a show on channel 4 where a few low level celebs trained with the police as specials essentially, his first day out on the job and one of the suspects ran, and with no hesitation he chased them and tackled them so they could be arrested, that takes a lot of nerve and good instincts, on celebrity hunted it also showed he suffers quite badly from anxiety and panic attacks so when he talks about being nervous I think sometimes it can be quite debilitating for him, he seems to have grown up and come a long way from his early days on made in Chelsea. The whole thing about him being a McVities heir isn't true either his dad had a small share but sold it back in the nineties, it was just a story for MIC, like Liv Bentley being linked to the car brand (she's not)

dementedma · 16/12/2020 08:18

I have really warmed to Jamie too. He has worked so hard and gives it his all. Maisie and Harvey are better dancers but I'll be voting Jamie or Bill

Mrsjayy · 16/12/2020 09:11

Tbf The Laing's do have a lot of money but I was reading a thing about Jamie's dad giving a guy called Frank control of Jamie's money and once he had spent his Allowance he had to phone Frank who would say Yay or Neigh to more Grin
