Bill and Oti for the win!! Bill showing middle aged men how it’s done! And the perfect end to a weird year....

I always think it's strange how it's ok for some to have had prior dance training (eg Maisie, from what others have said on here) yet others in previous years seem to be vilified for the same thing (eg Ashley Roberts, who was amazing. But I suspect the public's dislike came more from the fact she's American tbh).

I love Bill and Oti and would like to see them win for the oldies (just like I loved Debbie MaGee for the same reason, plus she was fab) but in terms of talent, it would have to be Maisie or Harvey. Maisie grated on me in the first episode but she's toned it down a bit in the last few weeks.

And I was also expecting to find Jamie very annoying, but he actually comes across as very likeable.

It’s just been a really fun way to spend a Saturday evening!

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 15/12/2020 10:39

I'd like Bill or Jamie to win, Jamie just has such a good attitude and I think Ranvir has been lucky not to be in the bottom before. Her Jive was by far the worst thing in the semi final, she didn't even seem to try. I've never watched strictly before but the very short voting window seems to skew the public voting to me. Younger people are more likely to watch on demand rather than live but voting is only open for less than half an hour at the end of the show, I'm not even very young but I've missed voting every episode other than this week. I think this has affected Jamie and Maisie most this year. I think Jamie also hasn't brought an audience with him in the way a lot of there others have and won't be known to lots of strictly viewers. My gran has declared him 'a happy, hard working lad' though and she's usually a pretty good judge 😁. Bill isn't especially emotionally expressive but you could really see how much the friends and family comments meant to him and I lived his doing choice for Tango. I thought Caroline Quentin should've stayed longer....
I got a weird vibe from Ranvir from the outset all felt a bit cliché and desperate

crankysaurus · 15/12/2020 10:42

I'm loving Bill & Oti, not sure they'll win but loved that they got Metallica in there, they've been a real highlight throughout.

Bibidy · 15/12/2020 10:43

@Charlieiscool

It’s totally unfair to have stage school people taking part, they have a huge advantage from the start and it makes no sense. I’d like to see Bill and Oti win too.
I do sort of agree, but equally know that since it's a celeb series there's a high chance that a lot of them will have been to some sort of stage school/training, particularly the actors.

I do also think that it gets evened out due to the public vote being combined with the judges scores. People like to see the underdog rise so the voters seem to compensate for any extra training some might have by voting for those that don't.

I think the difference is that Maisie isn't known for dancing - she's known as Tiffany on Eastenders and doesn't dance on that at all. Ashley Roberts had an entire career out of being a professional dancer and lip synching along with backing vocals to Nicole Scherzinger. Similar to "the lovely" Debbie McGee - a trained ballerina who earned her living in dance for years but spent the entire time on Strictly going on about how it wasn't the right sort of dance and how she was just as much a novice as everyone else. Yeah right Debbie, you're fooling no-one.

Mrsjayy · 15/12/2020 10:49

Ranvir had an unlucky night on Saturday. I think it was her candyman that did it for her she is to shy to pull off a jive like that which is a shame.

ZoeTurtle · 15/12/2020 10:55

Yes! I don't care if he's technically not as good as the others - it's Bill and Oti I look forward to seeing each week. To be fair I always look forward to Oti, but this year it's a double whammy.

I haven't really warmed to the others. Maisie and Jamie seem nice but dim. I can't forgive Harvey for pretentiously removing the vowels from his name. I loved Ranvir but she seemed to really lose her spark in the last few weeks.

Wotsitsarecheesy · 15/12/2020 10:57

My votes started with Ranvir and Clara, but then switched to Ranvir and Jamie, so I was really torn on Saturday. I decided that I would rather watch a final with Jamie so voted for him. The first week or two I found him really annoying, but he has really grown on me - starting with Hercules I think. He just comes across so lovely, genuine, and loving every minute. I agree with PP about him coming out of this the best of all the contestants - I was saying that exact thing to my MIL on Saturday. He is bound to get more TV gigs out of this.

In terms of who I want to win, I would say Masie for dance ability or Jamie for personality. I have never voted for Bill. I don't think he has really improved much over the series. Even his Rappers Delight seemed like a rip off of Karen and Charles Venn's couples choice. And his Tango was very poor :( unfotunately as the concept was great!.

Am also loving the less frantic nature of this series, and lack of comedy VTs. Just wish they had kept Anton on as a judge - I think 4 judges work much better than 3.

Agree with this.

There is a difference between someone who does a bit of dance along the way while learning to act and someone who is literally a dancer for their job and it's their main skill!

Ashley taking part was basically akin to one of the pros taking part in a street dance competition. It might not be their specialism but they're starting way ahead of others and they have the fundamental skillset there.

IntermittentParps · 15/12/2020 11:03

However, what has struck me is how lovely they have all been, especially with the lack of neighbours/auntie's dog appearances. There have been MORE nans/mums/dads/nieces etc etc as far as I can tell! Via Zoom, yes, rather than in the studio or whatever, but they seem to be having a live call with several of the slebs and one of their supporters after practically every dance.

I miss the camaraderie of them all standing about together with Claudia, piling on to do farewell hugs after the Last Dance etc. I do wonder if this cohort are actually managing to be matey with each other; do they go for distanced drinks/have Zoom chats etc?

IntermittentParps · 15/12/2020 11:07

As for stage school people having an advantage, I don't disagree, but the great thing about the final is that the judges have no say, which is why stage school types (and those like Debbie and Ashley with clear advantages in having done professional dance) don't always win and people like Chris Hollins sometimes do. Although you could argue that other winners have had an advantage in different ways –sports people with stamina/fitness and a winner's mentality, musicians/singers with musicality etc.

Mrsjayy · 15/12/2020 11:16

Zoom Nana's /aunties and their dogs is less irritating though better than taking their dance pros awkwardly round for Sunday dinner!

I agree, a lot of them will have an advantage in some way. And although I love seeing those who have no experience whatsoever learn to dance, they do really need some better dancers (usually the ones with some prior training) to make it watchable, for me anyway - if it was a show full of John Sergeants and Jeremy Vines (no offence to either of them!) I probably wouldn't watch it - I love watching people doing something well, whether to start off with or because they have learnt to do it over the course of the series.

Anyway, the point I was making about Ashley and Debbie was more to do with the hate they received from the public about how unfair it was, as opposed to others who have also had some training but it seems to go unnoticed.

I do think you need both to make it interesting, but I would still rather see an underdog win.

Felifox · 15/12/2020 11:33

As Oti won last year I think she was paired with Bill as he was judged less likely to win. But he's surprised us all. I admit warming to Jamie and Harvey, not so much Maisie.

I think Bill could well win the public vote though

TheDarkestTimeline · 15/12/2020 11:39

I wish Giovanni Ranvir was in the final, I loved their partnership. I think Jamie will be entertaining though, his dances are good fun.

Although Bill has plateaued I would quite like him to win, partly because no pro has ever won two years in a row - they clearly thought they had given Oti 'the old duffer' this year after she won with Kelvin last year. I have a big girl crush on Oti, she's a mesmerising dancer.

I suspect the final is between NVWLs and Bill, Jamie has been in the dance off too many times to win and I suspect the same applies to Maisie.

Mrsjayy · 15/12/2020 11:42

Oti is a goddess we love her in our.house .

IntermittentParps · 15/12/2020 11:47

As others have said, though, Ashley and Debbie specifically are quite possibly the MOST advantaged people there have ever been –many people have some training and even some form for professional performance/dance (Alexandra Burke, Tom Chambers, Joe McFadden) but Ashley is a professional dancer and I believe has even judged on another dance talent show, and Debbie is a trained and has been a professional ballet dancer. That puts them in a different league of ringers really.

IVFNewbie · 15/12/2020 11:49

Bill should have gone weeks ago. Jamie FTW!

Iamthewombat · 15/12/2020 11:50

I think he will win. Underdog and all that. Also he is a genuine celebrity with actual talent, unlike the other three. Who is that bloody no-mark with no vowels? We always have a minor Eastenders cast member served up, too. Yawn.

TheQueensGambit · 15/12/2020 11:53

I love him and Oti. But I want Jamie and Karen to win. I don't know why, I've taken such a shine to him. I'd never seen him before, except maybe on adverts for MIC. He just seems so joyful!

I don't care who wins really, but they would be my favourites. Maisie is the best dancer imo, but she won't win on personality as I don't think people like her so much? Maybe I'm misreading that though.

TillyTopper · 15/12/2020 11:54

I so want HRVY to win - but actually for Janette! I also think it'll be good for HRVY's career and that's great because he's young and can "use" the win. Bill's great but personally I don't want him to win as he's not the best (I think HRVY and Maiesie both trump him).

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 15/12/2020 12:02

Yes!!! But I'm very very biased as he's one of my favourite people.

It's just a popularity contest at this point so that awful HRVY will probably win. Jamie deserved to go weeks ago and objectively Maisie is probably the best dancer, but it's hard to shine when a middle aged man is competing against fit and flexible babies. You KNOW Maisie and HRVY would be good because of their fitness and stamina alone, but Bill has outshone them both imo and deserves to win more than all of them.

SoupDragon · 15/12/2020 12:07

Bill has outshone them both

He really hasn't 😂

hollieberrie · 15/12/2020 12:18

Bill or Jamie for the win! Maisie and HRVY send me to sleep..
Jamie is so joyful, I enjoy his dances the most every week. But Oti is wonderful and I like Bill a lot too.
