Bill and Oti for the win!! Bill showing middle aged men how it’s done! And the perfect end to a weird year....

Is it just me or does Bill have a gorgeous voice?

SevenSnobsASniping · 15/12/2020 12:21

I don't watch Strictly but I love Bill Bailey. I named my late dog Bailey after him!

It's odd - I find it irritates me and I don't know why. DD independently said he had a "voice over voice" and I think that might be the problem - I'd love to listen to him narrating something but don't like it as an ordinary speaking voice.
MrsMiaWallis · 15/12/2020 12:31

It would make a mockery of the whole thing if Bill wins. Maisie is easily the best dancer by miles. But the public's disdain for young women is so strong she probably won't win.

Bloodypunkrockers · 15/12/2020 12:38

@TheLoveOfMoney

I hope he wins. I cannot stand watching Jeanette, she irritates the crap out of me. At least this year I don't have to watch her camera hogging dance on the post dance chat with Claudia.
Her and Karen too. Gurning and posing and trying to act all "look at me"
IntermittentParps · 15/12/2020 12:40

It would make a mockery of the whole thing if Bill wins.
Personally I think it was a mockery when Jay McGuiness won with a showdance that was literally bits from all his other dances. And he was a ringer.
Strictly is an intriguing mix and mess of dance talent, personality/likeability, public opinion, luck and good game-play by the pros. It has thrown up a range of winners, reflecting that mess, and that's how it should be. Bill winning because he's unlikely/older/likeable/because Oti is popular/because people like their partnership wouldn't be unworthy IMO and would be absolutely true to Strictly.

Allthestarsarecloser · 15/12/2020 12:42

Chris Hollins won that year and he was def the worst in the final- it was that Charleston that won it for him!

Is it? True to Strictly? It's the first time I've ever watched it. I thought it was about who is the best dancer, but I see it's just a popularity contest like all reality tv. Bill is cute but Maisie is really decent.

Flibbertigibbet2211 · 15/12/2020 12:43

Slight digression, but not having watched EastEnders for many years, I hadn't realised until very recently that Maisie is actually the original Tiffany (the redhead not the very first Tiffany after whom she's called) and had played her since childhood. She wears a lot of fake tan!

She also, as an adult, looks so like Patsy Palmer that when I first saw her on Strictly I thought, "But she's been in it before, hasn't she?" Suppose Patsy Palmer looks a lot older now, but the time lapse hadn't registered with me.

EsmeeMerlin · 15/12/2020 12:56

We vote for Bill every week and will be voting for him to win. I think he is the underdog because it was quite clear no body expected him to be any good.

I think Hrvy will win it though.

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 15/12/2020 12:57

It’s part dance contest and part popularity contest. Usually the winner is the most likeable of the good dancers, but not necessarily the best overall dancer.

It’s pretty hard to find young performers, like HRVY and Maisie, who haven’t had some kind of dance training. Kids who like to perform these days generally end up doing extra curricular stage school where they teach singing, dancing and acting as a package. Although I do think there is a distinction between had some prior dance training like many of the younger contestants, and actually made a living as a pro dancer like Debbie and Ashley.

MrsMiaWallis · 15/12/2020 12:58

He's no better than Caroline quentin but he's a bloke so...

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 15/12/2020 13:02

While I don’t want to diminish Bill’s hard work it’s such an Oti thing to do to take the man who was meant to be the out in week three comedy duffer and get him through to the final.

MrsMiaWallis · 15/12/2020 13:08

He has a strange way of speaking. He sounds stoned.

nosswith · 15/12/2020 13:09

Bill Bailey is very funny and if more people view his work as a result, then good.

IntermittentParps · 15/12/2020 13:15

Obviously it has an element of popularity contest –the public get a vote. But it's not 'just' one; half of the scoring is down to the judges (until the final).

The public's opinions and voting, the way the dances seem to be picked to help or hinder couples and the music and theme choices that often seem to pander to perceived audience expectations or desire are the downside, for me, of it being partly about popularity. But at the end of the day if it was just about the dancing no one would watch it and it'd get cancelled. Just like the original Come Dancing.

I was GUTTED when Caroline left but Bill is Def better than her

I can't speak for everyone but I vote for whose dance I most enjoyed watching. That doesn't always mean the dancer who's technically best, but it doesn't mean the one I like most as a person either.
GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 15/12/2020 13:28

I love Bill!

RunnerDown · 15/12/2020 13:39

I enjoyed Bills dances at the beginning but much less so recently. Sometimes he makes mistakes that make me wonder how much training he’s doing. Love Oti though.
I want Maisie to win. She may have previous experience but she has worked really hard and puts heart and soul into it. She has had a lot of online abuse and criticism of how she looks. ( completely undeserved IMO) I think we should support strong woman like her

Buddytheelf85 · 15/12/2020 13:49

I like all the finalists, but I think HRVY will win.

As much as I like Jamie and Bill as people, Ranvir deserved to be in the final over either of them. I really wanted Ranvir to win - agree with you that she was robbed.

Yes, much the same.

I think Maisie seems like a nice woman, but, despite her being really good at dancing, I don't tend to enjoy her dances Xmas Confused.

I don't really enjoy Bill's that much anymore. I find Jamie's energy really infectious, which is why I enjoy watching him.

bitheby · 15/12/2020 14:00

Bill is a musician. He plays several instruments and so that musicality definitely gives him an edge that others don't have. Agree that he's been the surprise package this series.

I haven't watched it for years. Only came back this year to watch the same sex pairing.

Really pleased Jamie got through. Think he deserved it for effort.

I reckon HRVY will win.

Dearmaria · 15/12/2020 14:01

I love Bill but think he's sort of plateaued the last couple of weeks. Reckon he's still got a good chance of winning. I absolutely adore Jamie though. His enthusiasm and sheer delight for dancing every week is just wonderful to watch and he has definitely improved. Not sure he's got the fanbase to win but I'll be voting for him.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 15/12/2020 14:02

It was pretty obvious from what was said on It Takes Two last night, that Ranvir’s dances were chosen because she could only do ballroom and she said herself that she liked being in hold and being led. Any side by side or on her own dancing was going to expose her inadequacies and it did. I don’t think she was robbed. She didn’t have the variety. If she’d had more Latin dances, she’d have gone earlier.
