Do you ‘hate follow’ anyone?

Hate is a strong word but hopefully some will know what I mean. Grin

Do you have people on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter who you find intensely annoying but somehow you can’t help but look at their posts and wind yourself up/eye roll?

OP posts:
Mayorquimby2 · 14/12/2020 23:15

@VienneseWhirligig you'll be glad to know that being banished to the desert has done nothing to change that

Crankley · 14/12/2020 23:31

I don't hate/love follow anyone. I just don't understand it and it seems juvenile to me. I guess this comes from being in my 70s and having no social media.

yearinyearout · 14/12/2020 23:32

Yes, there's this woman I met through a hobby who's a total fantasist, I find her really annoying as she lies constantly but it fascinates me to see what she is going to come out with next.

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2020 23:36

I follow people i have very different views with on twitter because its healthy and thought provoking about how others see the word.

'Hate following' seems a ridiculous concept to me though.

SuperbGorgonzola · 14/12/2020 23:39

My local newspaper comments section. It makes me very bilious whenever I read the Covid comments (it's not real y'know).

Simplyunacceptable · 14/12/2020 23:41

I don’t use SM anymore but I did used to do this, yes. One had a disgusting home so I used to love looking at her many selfies purely so I could pick over the pure squalor she lived in. I mean, she had the time and money for endless make up tutorials but couldn’t tidy her home. It wasn’t just a bit messy either, I’m talking splatters of food all over the wall and curtains and no sheet on the mattress.

Also followed someone who was just completely trashy. It was like watching a soap tbh, she aired all of her dirty laundry right down to her sex life with her husband.

I think it's important to do this, and you've reminded me that I follow Leave.EU and a few similar accounts on Twitter as I refuse to have a social media echo chamber.

I do find the Sunday Sport style jingoism irritating though, so I'm always on the lookout for more reasoned Brexiteers to follow.

SD1978 · 14/12/2020 23:47

Yup. A FB/ Instagram wanna be influencer who juts whinges and fake cries at the camera constantly.

Tulipmonster · 14/12/2020 23:51

My former boss, who was dreadful to work for and eventually fucked up so spectacularly he nearly took the whole company down with him. His posts are reliably annoying and get sent around between quite a wide circle of us. Tosser.

KimchiLaLa · 14/12/2020 23:53

Yes. Deliciously Ella. Lydia Millen. Both pretentious over- moneyed twats.

Dave35 · 14/12/2020 23:54

@Tulipmonster sounds like he got we he deserved x

garlictwist · 14/12/2020 23:58

Husband's mate has a girlfriend who, to be fair, is very young and hot but posts semi erotic photos of herself on Instagram in her bra with captions like "thinking about doing the hoovering today". It is an endless source of wonder and amusement.

june2007 · 15/12/2020 00:00

I have done, but then if you follow someone it looks good for them and i didn,t want this ignorant person to think I approoved of them and really why waste my time on ignarnt people ao not any more.

Twiddlet · 15/12/2020 00:04

Georgina Cleverley from Towie. She quite clearly got hair extensions done a day or two into the full lockdown, constantly posts pictures of herself with friends indoors in public places without masks and posted telling everyone to stop testing for coronavirus as if we don’t test the figures won’t go up and it will all go away. I follow her just to annoy myself, it seems.

OneFootintheRave · 15/12/2020 00:14

@MaxNormal

Yes on YouTube. The Indie Projects. DH and I have our Sunday twenty monute hate when they upload their new video each week Grin
Ah I like those guys!!
AnathemaPulsifer · 15/12/2020 00:20

I go on Twitter purely to see what Donald Trump is whining about.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 15/12/2020 00:21

Freely admit I follow a few people on twitter who seem actually ok, but are obsessed with posting perfectly staged photos of their lives. I like to think of them shifting the jam jar of forget me nots just ever so slightly to the left, to the right, bit closer, no, back now, spending hours applying the right filter, and then waiting for the like to come rolling in... In fairness, it does look quite pretty. But I do enjoy wading through their posts every now and again, wondering how many times their boyfriend had to take a photo of them so kookily spinning around in their new dress until they decided that photo number 34 was the right one to share Wink

SionnachRua · 15/12/2020 00:27

Before it got banned I occasionally liked to look in on the Reddit Gendercritical sub. I sometimes dip into Parlerwatch and Fundiesnark too but I don't like to spend too much time in those places, I find it can impact your mood (mine anyway).

Otherwise I follow a girl I went to school with who has gone full fundamentalist Christian. We're talking can work miracles*, hugely pro Trump, anti vax, have babies as that's women's work - the whole crazy shilling. She was the standard gym girl not too long ago. Amazing how things change, though I'm a bit worried for her when she snaps out of it.

*So she claims. Apparently a few months of Bible School does wonders!

SionnachRua · 15/12/2020 00:30

Oh and how I could forget Gemma O'doherty (basically an Irish Katie Hopkins). She never disappoints, though it's not easy to stay up to date now that she's banned from Twitter. I check in on a few of her lackeys too.

Intriguing. What do you mean by fantasist? Can you offer an examples without obviously revealing too much?
Boostinthefanjo · 15/12/2020 00:33

Yup. A friend of mine who posts every single purchase she makes. Showing it off... luxury food / beauty / clothing items. Expensive weekend breaks. Their new car (with price tag still in windscreen!) - she even posted a screenshot of her 'excellent' credit score the other day! She is SO lovely in real life but just unbelievably braggy online, it makes my jaw drop.

Saoirse7 · 15/12/2020 00:41

@Mybedislisting

Mrs Hinch - I swing between love and hate
Same, I kind of don't mind her.

I mean it's obvious she's a walking advert but I think sometimes she is genuine. I like to read her thread on tattle, sometimes I think 'that's a very good point' or like when someone shares my thoughts on an observation. However, I get completely floored at how obsessed some people are with her (in a negative sense). Some posters on there have screenshots dating back years that they pull out at the drop of a hat.

DahliaMacNamara · 15/12/2020 00:42

I couldn't follow these people, and have them bobbing up like unflushed turds on my feed all the time, but I'm not above having a sneaky look to see what shit they're posting today if I'm in the mood.

Dave35 · 15/12/2020 00:46

@DahliaMacNamara unflushed turds Grin brilliant

twoglassesofprosecco · 15/12/2020 06:20

I regularly dabble in a little recreational rage via Trump's Twitter.
