I’ve bought my mum a Dyson handheld & I’m so excited to give it to her! She struggles with the stairs now, so it’ll be great.

Have you got something you’re looking forward to gifting?

DSS14 has had a tough year – his mum's had her hands full with sick twin toddlers, he's missed his friends madly as school has mostly been online, his stepdad's sick with emphysema and his girlfriend dumped him by text last week.

His dad hasn't been able to work for most of the year and government financial support where we live is shit, so DSS knows it's likely to be a very tight Christmas. He's very sweet and gracious about it and has made it clear he's not expecting much, and just wants a nice quiet one with us and a good meal.

But I've been incredibly lucky that my business was already 100% online and has boomed over the last 12 months.

So I'm really looking forward to watching him open his first laptop on Christmas Day.

Lots of things, but probably most for my dd1(5) to open the dolls house she has been asking for for months (and which i will help her to decorate/furnish over the coming months), and dd2(12 months and walking/climbing very enthusiastically) to find the soft play steps/slide/tunnel/small ball pool i will be filling the sitting room with - she has never experienced soft play given the year we have had, and she will LOVE it.

Really looking forward to seeing my daughters in their Oodies also got them fleecy covered V shaped pillows that will go down well. Some fantastic presents on this thread!

Got DH a drone. I'm massively excited to see him open it. He loves both remote control flying things and making movies.

Added a VR headset so he can be up there with it.
Got DD the game she wanted too. Actually I'm pretty pleased with all my gifts this year

BeBraveAndBeKind · 22/12/2020 11:18

My husband is always quoting Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation so I've bought him a wood working kit so he can truly emulate his hero. He'll either love it or hate itand I'll have it back and take up a new hobby.

He's very sweet and gracious about it and has made it clear he's not expecting much, and just wants a nice quiet one with us and a good meal. Awww ladybee28 He sounds like a lovely boy.

ladybee28 · 22/12/2020 11:28

@BeBraveAndBeKind he is. He's VERY 14 in a lot of ways Grin AND his heart's very much in the right place.

So there will be much groaning when I pull him off his Playstation to come and peel potatoes, AND the potatoes will be the part of the day he tells his mum about when he goes back to her for New Year's.

He's a funny animal but he's a good one, and I feel very lucky that I'm able to give him the nice surprise he deserves this year.

Our 3 year old saw a toy he wanted in Sainsbury’s a few months ago and we said he could ask Santa for it. It’s a garage with a fire engine, police car and ambulance. Half expected he’d forget about it, but no, he found it in the Argos catalogue and was looking at it regularly until we cut the picture out to make a letter to Santa. He will be so happy to get it.

SquishSquashSqueeze · 22/12/2020 12:04

I rigged secret Santa this year to ensure that I got a friend who will be alone on Christmas day. Did the usual sticking to the budget with some nice thoughtful gifts she'll like, and at the bottom of the parcel also popped in the perfume she loves but never buts herself due to the price. Covid has meant I've had a very cheap year expenses wise (no long daily commute, no eating out etc any more) so anonymously splashing out on something special for a friend who will otherwise receive nothing this Christmas day seemed worth the stress of organising secret Santa this year Smile

motherrunner · 22/12/2020 12:19

Ah, these ideas have brightened my day.

I’m looking forward to DH opening a book by Lonely Planet entitled ‘Epic Runs of the World’. He should’ve completed his first ultra this year but Covid our paid to that.

DS (6) wanted a ‘DJ booth’ and after much hunting I found some decks that he could master.

DD (9) is always happy so long as her bail consists of books, Harry Potter merch and make up!

@namechange7438

I'm excited about most of the things I've got for everyone this year! The one I'm most looking forward to is my 16yo step son - we have a brilliant relationship and he's CONSTANTLY playing tricks one me. He is an absolute car nut and particularly obssessed with drifting. I've managed to find somewhere that he can do half a daya drifting lesson despite his age, it'll also take place in his favourite car. Obviously, because of the tricks I don't want to make things too straight forward so I've had the voucher made into a 49 piece jigsaw puzzle and wrapped that up for him
Ohh that sounds amazing - please come back and tell us his reaction, @namechange7438!
LabCoatPocket · 22/12/2020 12:40

Oooh this year has been good. I got DH a record player, it was what he wanted, but he doesn't know it is a very high end one.

My youngest DS has got a big, telly for his room, something we have never allowed, and a whole gaming set up.

My eldest DS is a sweetheart and would be grateful if you gave him a wooden spoon and a potato, but this makes him harder to buy for, in a way, as he is always happy with anything. Younger DS should learn a lesson or two from him 😉

namechange7438 · 22/12/2020 12:45

I will - I can't wait to see his face lol....both when he sees its a jigsaw and when he works out what it is. 😂

CoRhona · 22/12/2020 13:11

As our holiday was cancelled this year 😭 I've bought DH a mojito cocktail making set 🍹
