I’ve bought my mum a Dyson handheld & I’m so excited to give it to her! She struggles with the stairs now, so it’ll be great.

Have you got something you’re looking forward to gifting?

@MrsLebowski

I am looking forward to giving my DH his present I thought the italics signified a double entendre at first. Then realised you don't like the term gifting. Just remember it's better to gift than receipt.
Loads of things make me laugh on mumsnet, but usually quietly, to myself. This brought tears to my eyes and had me laughing out loud!
gogojojo · 14/12/2020 15:04

I told my DS 11 there was absolutely no way he is getting the new Xbox X as it was out of stock everywhere and far too expensive - but I won one in an online competition - cannot wait to see his face when he opens it!

tinytemper66 · 14/12/2020 15:10

My son talks about History a lot! So I have for him a sweatshirt that says "Warning may talk about History"!

Wormwoodgal · 14/12/2020 15:12

I’m looking forward to my husband opening (and wearing) the flat cap I have bought him. We’ve lived in Yorkshire for 8 years now, so I think he’s entitled to wear one!

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 14/12/2020 19:57

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius
Thats brilliant! Where did you get that from, dh would love one!

And also another loving Harry Otter, so adorable!

Urbanewell3 · 21/12/2020 02:14

'Gifting' is correct English, though perhaps a bit formal:

There's a particular furreal toy that dd2 was sadly telling me this morning she should have put as the only thing on her list to Santa as it is the thing she really wants. I have already got one for her. I think she'll be delighted.

marriednotdead · 21/12/2020 06:46

I’ve been thinking about this. Sadly won’t be able to see any of their faces at the time but am still smiling inside.

Favourites this year are Peppa Pig PJs for DGD(2) but I might see her open them on FaceTime.

I compiled a photo book for my lovely auntie who was widowed just over a year ago. She knits amazingly and all the family little ones have her creations so photos are of kids in those plus family hugs and with my late uncle. I sent the book to her DDs where she was supposed to be for Christmas but tier 4 has scuppered that- gutted but I know she will be overwhelmed when she eventually sees it.

Everyone at work said they were too skint for secret Santa and I’m not flush, but I decided to get something little for the colleague who usually organises it. She’s had a crap deal and has had to work two jobs to support her parents. She is so stoic and never complains about having nothing for herself so I wrapped up some small treats like bubble bath, face mask, chocolate etc. Had planned to quietly leave the bag at work on our last day but we’ve been shut down again so I’ve had to parcel it up and post it. She’s not expecting much if anything for Christmas so I hope it arrives on time. Her caring has made all the difference to me and I want her to feel some too.

@Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese - the pattern is from Ravelry - here.

jamimmi · 21/12/2020 22:00

Lego star wars tie fighter and chocolate for my 17 year okd. We were talking a few months ago about how he remembers Christmas as a child and just having to be worried about making lego and eating chocolate. We've had a tough year as a.family due to my husband losing his sight. Hes been my rock while studying for a levels and applying for uni. This will be a hard year too so I just want him to relive a bit of the magic and stop being so responsible

Lola528 · 21/12/2020 23:57

@LajesticVantrashell you know it’s not being released until August 2021 right? Only avail for per-order just now 😬

eeek88 · 22/12/2020 00:17

My dad is getting a quad bike, which he doesn't know about. I can't wait to give it to him. He lives on a farm and checks our sheep daily because we live 20 mins away, and he's been very stoic about walking round them all, but numbers keep going up and he's not getting any younger so I think the quad will make his life much easier.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 22/12/2020 00:53

Back to the future musical tickets for my mum. Optimistic given the current situation but they're for the tail end of Sep 2021, hoping things will have improved enough by then. She likes going to musicals in London and BTTF is her favourite film.

DDs main present, a karaoke machine. She's nearly 3 and loves to sing and perform. We'll be treated to nursery rhymes in concert Christmas Day Smile

Meatshake · 22/12/2020 01:09

I'm really excited for my kids (2 and 4) to discover the monkey bars/slide/swing set we've got them. We're building it in the garage and are going to install it in the garden on Xmas eve. Going to put a sheet of wrapping paper over the patio windows for them to open. I'm buzzing!!!!

Being in T4 had buggered the plans to chick the kids over to my mum's so we could install it though which is a shame... We'll get it built somehow though I'm sure!

smalalalalalala · 22/12/2020 01:31

@CakeRequired

I'm looking forward to giving my partner a smart pillow that will play music or videos through the headphones inside it, so he doesn't have to lie down with headphones on and being uncomfortable. Of course this now means I have to fall asleep listening to whatever he is watching, but I'm a pretty deep sleeper, I doubt it will take long to adapt. Smile

Looking forward to giving my mum a picture with all her favourite pets, past and present on it as well. Smile

I will now get this to my partner, he's got sleep issue and like to listen to Louis Theroux's podcasts to sleep Hmm

Reduce list of presents given this year, usually we don't do present with my partner but as I don't see my family this year, I added partner to the list, otherwise it would be only his 2 year old nephew, I have Mr Tumble's car for him (Hello !!)

snappyoldfart · 22/12/2020 02:06

I hunted down a Xbox series x, it almost killed me with setting alarms to get online.. 3rd attempt I resorting to phoning a manager at game.

my DS 13 knows they are impossible to get and is saying don't worry mum I know it was a big ask, I'll wait and save for later etc.. and it's there all wrapped up.

exLtEveDallas · 22/12/2020 06:18

DH is an absolute bugger to buy for, he likes “nothing” and wants “nothing“. This year I have bought him a ‘make your own cheese’ set. Completely off the wall, but I actually think he’s going to like it.

DD has had a horrible year and is dreading Xmas day. Last night we went for a wander down the ‘Aisle of Shite’ and there was a fleece bed set, sadly not the right size, that she coveted - I’ve already bought one, so can’t wait for her to open that!

Inpersuitofhappiness · 22/12/2020 06:27

I've got a few gifts this year for people that I couldn't wait to give.
DD knows I was heartbroken to not be able to get her a PS5, she thought I was crying because of it the other day (was talking about it but it was smokey as I was cooking steak)
Except the bloody thing has been hidden in the office since 3 days after it came out. She has no idea at all.
Shes gonna love that

I also got MIL a voucher to use at the new cat cafe which has just opened up.

DH has had all of his gifts.

MorgenMuffel · 22/12/2020 06:39

@Lola528 its already avaliable in hardback - I have one wrapped up under the tree waiting for DH to open. V excited as with @LajesticVantrashell I am pretty sure he has no idea it has been written and he LOVES ready player one Grin

namechange7438 · 22/12/2020 07:03

I'm excited about most of the things I've got for everyone this year! The one I'm most looking forward to is my 16yo step son - we have a brilliant relationship and he's CONSTANTLY playing tricks one me. He is an absolute car nut and particularly obssessed with drifting. I've managed to find somewhere that he can do half a daya drifting lesson despite his age, it'll also take place in his favourite car. Obviously, because of the tricks I don't want to make things too straight forward so I've had the voucher made into a 49 piece jigsaw puzzle and wrapped that up for him

Lola528 · 22/12/2020 08:59

@MorgenMuffel thank you! When I tried to buy it on Amazon for hubby it said August! Weird!

Will have to try again - sorry for any confusion caused! :)

ScrapThatThen · 22/12/2020 09:16

I'm not! I am a terrible present buyer and I have not excelled this year at all. Oh well, I'll bung the teens some extra money and they'll be happy.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 22/12/2020 09:26

Got DP a wooden puzzle of a 'working' terminator gun that shoots rubber bands. Hopefully it'll keep him occupied building it for a while, then keep the dog entertained when he's shooting stuff so I can have 5 mins peace haha.

Beachhuts90 · 22/12/2020 09:37

I got him a couple of other things (a book and a game) but the one I'm most excited for my husband to open is one I came across by accident: an antique engraving of a place we frequently go for weekends away, which I have framed. We can't go there at the moment obviously but hopefully it will make him smile.

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 22/12/2020 09:43

namechange7438 that drifting gift sounds amazing!! That's one lucky 16 year old. I once bought my boys a supercar driving experience for kids. It really was a day to remember
