A wish list for a dog

Rose789 · 13/12/2020 17:01

A family member got a puppy a few weeks ago.
We are going to their house on Boxing Day so I have bought gifts for family member their spouse and their kids. I will also take a contribution to the buffet they are preparing and drink.

Got a message this morning with a wish list of things for the new puppy. Ranging from £15 to £52.99. Saying- just some ideas for you we don’t want little X to miss out.
What? Am I meant to buy someone’s pet (that I’ve never even met) a Christmas present? This can’t be a thing surely?

🙈😂 yep, they want a present for a dog. Embarrassing

naechunce · 13/12/2020 17:03

That's crazy!

I would be tempted to reply 😂😂😂

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/12/2020 17:04

I have a dog. I buy him presents. I do NOT expect others to do so. They are crazy. I would ignore - and make a joke about it when you see them (got your list.. you were joking, right...)

tinkerbellvspredator · 13/12/2020 17:04

If they were buying you lots of presents for say 2 adults and 2 kids, and you were just buying 1 present for a single adult, and not contributing to catering, then I could kind of see the point (and puppies are expensive I imagine). But in any other scenario (ie the one you've set out) then I think they are cheeky as fuck.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/12/2020 17:04

Haha we’ve recently got a puppy, I’m going to wind my sister in law up and do this. (She’ll find it funny)

TheMandalorian · 13/12/2020 17:04

That is bonkers and very demanding really. I would be very put out to receive this list and would have to say something. I might have brought a token dog treat or toy if I had thought of it, but the expensive list would put my back up.

Rose789 · 13/12/2020 17:05

If they weren’t known for not having a sense of humour I would just think they are taking the piss. Christ on a bike man

I'm not sure I can wrap my head around this. You've honestly been sent a gift list for a new puppy?

wetotter · 13/12/2020 17:05

I get my pets Christmas and birthday presents, but I sure as hell don't expect anyone else to.

Aprilx · 13/12/2020 17:06

My family bought Christmas presents for my puppy that they had not previously met. But i didn’t ask them to and certainly wouldn’t have sent an expensive gift list!

BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 13/12/2020 17:07

That’s so rude. I’d usually buy some pup treats for a new dog but after getting a list I’m not sure I’d get anything

DaphneBlake101 · 13/12/2020 17:07

We've just got a new puppy and the family has requested a Christmas list to buy for him. I think they are just a bit over-excited after a pretty shit year.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 13/12/2020 17:08

Very bizarre. What could the dog possibly want that costs £15+ either??

PawPawNoodle · 13/12/2020 17:15

Sounds a lot like 'we got a lockdown puppy and didn't think to buy it what it needs, you do it for us'

Also, I am that person that buys presents for people's pets, but thats because I want to rather than it being an expectation.

BreadSaucery · 13/12/2020 17:18

I always bought my dog presents of her own and buy for dogs, cats and small furries of family members but that’s sooooo entitled of them!
Gift wrap an empty cardboard box in plain brown paper for the puppy, they will enjoy that immensely ime. Grin

lovepickledlimes · 13/12/2020 17:19

We do get our pets gifts from santa paws... the dog also gets a special Christmas dinner... I would not dream of actually requesting for gifts for either of our pets though. Of course if people do want to get them something they are free to do so

PuppyMonkey · 13/12/2020 17:19

As always, the reply to a CF message like this is a simple “lol.”

OrigamiOwl · 13/12/2020 17:20

That's crazy. YANBU in not getting the dog a gift, especially not one from its Christmas list!
What's on the dogs list that is £52.99?!

loobylou44 · 13/12/2020 17:22

That's ridiculous. What on earth have they got on the list? My family all buy each other's dogs toys but they only cost a max of £5.

FangsForTheMemory · 13/12/2020 17:23

I have had friends who insisted on buying my cat Christmas presents, which I never do. He might get a bit of the duck I'm having for Christmas lunch, but that's it.

Coulddowithanap · 13/12/2020 17:23

We buy for the extended family dogs, but it would be something like a bone or new toy. Don't spend more than a couple of pound on them.

Expecting gifts of £15 - £52 is crazy!

Pinkypie86 · 13/12/2020 17:23

Gravy bones are £1 a bag in Poundland - get some of those and a £1 chew toy! Dogs do not need anything that costs £54.99. What a tool.

Meowchickameowmeow · 13/12/2020 17:25

I buy my friend's pets a Christmas present but it's never been expected. Buy a cheapish toy from Aldi and tell them the puppy text you and said he'd rather have that than anything from his totally made up wish list.

Evans800 · 13/12/2020 17:26

I would reply back with a laughing emoji whether I thought it was a joke or not and definitely not buy a gift.
Is this a one-off moment of CFery? If not then I would be questioning why on earth I am spending boxing day with these people...

Nicketynac · 13/12/2020 17:26

SIL got a puppy this year. I have bought him the dog equivalent of a sweetie cone. £2. Other than toys and food, what does a dog want?
Although she took him to see Santa today Xmas Grin at a special dog session
