A wish list for a dog

Rose789 · 13/12/2020 17:01

A family member got a puppy a few weeks ago.
We are going to their house on Boxing Day so I have bought gifts for family member their spouse and their kids. I will also take a contribution to the buffet they are preparing and drink.

Got a message this morning with a wish list of things for the new puppy. Ranging from £15 to £52.99. Saying- just some ideas for you we don’t want little X to miss out.
What? Am I meant to buy someone’s pet (that I’ve never even met) a Christmas present? This can’t be a thing surely?

You could just turn up with the stuff you already have and when they ask where the dog’s present is, I’d say oh I thought you were joking!!

Bettysnow · 13/12/2020 17:28

Absolute disgrace! Send them a message saying you will donate the cost of a gift for a present to a child living in poverty!

ekidmxcl · 13/12/2020 17:28

I love dogs and I have a dog but I’d never ask anyone to get him a present!

Worriedandabitscared · 13/12/2020 17:30

I buy my dogs presents but I wouldn't expect anyone else to, gave them one each this morning Grin

Vates · 13/12/2020 17:31

I am most definitely the weirdo here as I have spent in order of expense: Nephew (only child in my family! Yes, I adore him though)...and then dog toys for my Sister's dogs. Lol. But to expect it is a little much at those prices. I have only bought little token gifts for everybody else (humans). I know I prize animal company over human but that is because they literally keep me breathing and alive and wanting to wake up each day. And I don't even have a pet!

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 13/12/2020 17:33

That is both hilarious and awful. If I was going to see someone with a new puppy I’d probably take a little something, a small pack of treats or a chew toy, but I’d be shocked if they asked for something, especially something expensive.

StillMedusa · 13/12/2020 17:33

Asda's treats ..chicken strips or pigs in blanket.. £1 a bag and I swear I am mugged by every dog I meet at the local country park when I'm out with mine.. cheap and tasty.
I adore my dog.. but a gift list.. I don't think so!

Vates · 13/12/2020 17:33

p.s. but did vote YANBU as nobody should expect anything. And I always find it off putting and a bit rude when people give out lists!

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 13/12/2020 17:34

Freeloading CFery eith bells on.

CMOTDibbler · 13/12/2020 17:35

We buy for family dogs (and my SILs horse), but its a bit of fun and no more than £5 tops

TidyDancer · 13/12/2020 17:36

Are you absolutely sure this isn't a wind up? I mean, you know your family better than any of us, but this is such a batshit crazy request that I can't believe anyone would seriously make it!

Have you replied?

Madre1972 · 13/12/2020 17:36

Urggh, that’s just embarrassing and I say that as someone who buys a gift for every pet we have, including the hamster! I would never ask anyone else to- so rude

gah2teenagers · 13/12/2020 17:36

Hahahaha. No.

Nunoftheother · 13/12/2020 17:41

Are you sure the puppy didn't send the list itself?

Spidey66 · 13/12/2020 17:41

Blimey. I'm a mad dog owner, and while it's nice for her to get Xmas presents for her, I wouldn't expect it, and certainly no more than a ball or one of those doggy Christmas stockings that sell for less than a tenner

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/12/2020 17:42

We buy for several dogs of friends.
But we never spend more than £3.

Rose789 · 13/12/2020 17:42

If I had a dog or a cat I would 100% buy it a Christmas present.
One of my friends is single and her dogs are her babies and I include them both on her Christmas card. If we exchanged gifts (we don’t) I would buy something for her dogs if she was buying for my kids.
But this is a whole different kettle of fish. For their 3 kids they sent the exact present they wanted with a link to the relevant store. All around £30 each and all at different shops.
I’ll stick a chew toy on next weeks food shop to save any ill feeling

Cheeky, scruffy twats.

I buy my 2 xmas gifts and they will also have an xmas dinner.

Sending a list to family members is outrageous.

FOJN · 13/12/2020 17:51

It's festive CFery at its finest.

It does sound as if they haven't bought everything their puppy needs and are expecting others to fund those items, £52 for a dog gift is a bit breath taking. Hope it's not a sign of their general attitude to planning for pet expenses otherwise they'll be expecting you to crowd funding vets bills. Grin It's a bit worrying for the dog if that's the case.

I buy a gift for a friend's dog, it's not expected and doesn't cost more than £5. I might buy my dog some fresh meet for his dinner but I don't get him a gift, poor neglected pooch.

checkingforballoons · 13/12/2020 17:53

Oh please buy the dog something from its wish list and then throw an almighty strop on the day because the dog didn’t get you a gift back, followed by a second strop in January because the dog didn’t send a thank you card.

Vates · 13/12/2020 17:53

That is well pricey and the whole list thing is rude! My Sister doesn't expect/demand gifts for her dogs, lol. She even decided not to get them anything this year from her and her hubby as people have bought stuff for them. I am wrapping the toys I bought them but writing that they're from my Nephew so he can give them to the whippets. Peak cuteness for me!

ForeverAintEnough · 13/12/2020 17:53

@Rose789 the writing was ok the wall with a exact link to a gift for their children. I completely disagree with that. Never mind how outrageous they are being about the dog. People should be grateful than someone went to the effort of getting them a gift whatever it is instead of requesting stuff. I got my nieces and nephews what I wanted to get them.

Vates · 13/12/2020 17:54

Yes, checkingforballoons! Lol.
