A wish list for a dog

Rose789 · 13/12/2020 17:01

A family member got a puppy a few weeks ago.
We are going to their house on Boxing Day so I have bought gifts for family member their spouse and their kids. I will also take a contribution to the buffet they are preparing and drink.

Got a message this morning with a wish list of things for the new puppy. Ranging from £15 to £52.99. Saying- just some ideas for you we don’t want little X to miss out.
What? Am I meant to buy someone’s pet (that I’ve never even met) a Christmas present? This can’t be a thing surely?

I do buy presents for my friends pets but it's something like a bag of Dreamies for the cat and a bag of Pedigree treats for the dog they're about £1 each.

Daisy829 · 13/12/2020 18:02

What’s on the list for over £50??? I don’t spend more than a couple of quid on my own dog & I wouldn’t ask anyone else to buy him anything. She’s bonkers. Made me laugh though.

I posted a link before but it had my address on so MNHQ kindly removed it.
It’s basically a small dog sofa that matches their sofa for a dog bed

I love that she wants to match her dogs bed to their sofa 🤣

LuckyNumberThirteen · 13/12/2020 18:09

This is hilarious.

I've just received a text asking what my dog would like for Christmas.

I said a bit of meat from Christmas dinner and she'd be happy - it's a fucking dog. She does not care.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 13/12/2020 18:10

Do dogs know it’s Christmas time at aaaaalllll?

SelfIcellation · 13/12/2020 18:11

I've bought and wrapped a bone for the in-laws' dog because we're good mates. It cost about £2 Grin! I did consider getting him a Christmas jumper but some places were wanting £30+ which is too much when he's going to roll around in mud in it !

Your friends are CFs. I'd reply with 😂! Dogs having gift lists, Jfc....

I bought a few dog treats for a family members dog for Christmas many years ago, and when the person opened the package, she immediately said, oh no, I don't want my dog having this rubbish brand, its unhealthy. I hadn't exactly bought some smarties ha ha, I had bought the dog treats from a garden centre, that sells quite expensive pet stuff. She then sidled the dog pressie away onto a cabinet, and proceeded to give the dog a Scottish shortbread biscuit off the table. !

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/12/2020 18:18

I think one needs to know the breed.

If it is a terrier type then it might it might appreciate a live rat whereas for a labrador maybe a dead duck will do.

You must hope it is not a border collie as a flock of sheep can be hideously expensive.

freddiethegreat · 13/12/2020 18:18

@Nicketynac - she took the dog to see Santa? Oh. My. God. Presents (not a gift list!) - if you like. A bit of Christmas dinner - sure. Pet shop is selling Pawsecco & I eye rolled but might yet ... but taking the dog to see Santa?! I despair of people sometimes.

lovepickledlimes · 13/12/2020 18:25

@freddiethegreat is that any different to taking a baby that is too young to understand to see santa?

Icanseewhyichangednyusername · 13/12/2020 18:38

Could you send a link back of something you would like the dog to buy you?

freddiethegreat · 13/12/2020 18:51

@lovepickledlimes I suppose not really, but at least you know the baby will remember/understand more each year.

lovepickledlimes · 13/12/2020 18:58

@freddiethegreat true but I doubt a 1 or 2 year old would remember much so it's more for the parents etc. Taking dogs to see Santa just like this is more for the owner then the dog. Of course I know my dog does not understand why she is getting gifts from me but she does look happy and excited about the new toy or special treat food so that makes me happy in return

Of course - it's when their humans put them in the hideous jumpers instead of an equafleece. It's the nadir of winter, especially if they have to wear antlers

I got mine some Pawsecco a couple of years ago; they wouldn't touch it!

lovepickledlimes · 13/12/2020 19:07

@EdithWeston 😂🤣😂 my maltese has a christmas jumper with penguins on it and one with reindeers (genuinely needs a jumper as maltese have no underfur). No way would she tolerate antlers though lol even for a quick picture

PreRaphaeliteMotherhood · 13/12/2020 19:08

I wrapped up an empty plastic milk bottle for a dog once... it went down very well!

lovepickledlimes · 13/12/2020 19:09

@sueelleker got both my cats and dogs a Christmas advent calendar years ago.... refused to even touch the treats

freddiethegreat · 13/12/2020 19:13

@lovepickledlimes I am pretty sure my dog couldn’t care less about WHY I give him presents. Just wants to scoff/play with them. Point taken re Santa. Each to their own.

lovepickledlimes · 13/12/2020 19:16

@freddiethegreat I do realize it is far more for my amusement I do it 🤣😂🤣

Boysnme · 13/12/2020 19:16

Nicketynac freddiethegreat. I took mine to see Santa today, he absolutely loved him! But in fairness we went because every other santa event has been cancelled apart from this because it was outdoors so it meant the kids could still see him too.

Nicketynac · 13/12/2020 20:52

@freddiethegreat yup, puppy looked like he was having a great time! Someone sent her a link on the family chat and she booked him in Grin She is usually very sensible so I assume this is a one off. We’ll see...
