Yes, it's really happening 🙄

Christmas eve bell ring for santa

Omg how miserable are some people. I genuinely feel sorry for people that can’t find joy in life and have to sneer at other people’s happiness you must just be so unhappy.

I will be doing it with my child. It will be in our family Christmas Eve box
Which will include
family pjs
Bubble bath
The muppet Christmas carol dvd (which we all ready have)
The night before Xmas book (which we reuse)
Ingredients to make cookies for Santa
Plate for Santa
Bells
Popcorn and sweets
Hot choc

Also a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine for after he’s gone to bed for me and my husband whilst we watch Scrooged

These arnt extra presents (except the bell) it’s how we have always done Christmas Eve for ever.

But I love the magic of Xmas and the kids thinking they are helping Santa’s sleigh comming like the singing in elf. If your not in to it that’s ok just ignore it. It won’t effect you at all. But don’t suck the fun and mock other people who are being cheerful.

Cam2020 · 13/12/2020 15:30

This bollocks has been doing the rounds on my SM too. I'm ignoring.

Nah, sod off. My kids are already over excited and being peeled off the ceiling every night since the 1st, without adding this nonsense. 😂

Mammyloveswine · 13/12/2020 15:41

I think it's a lovely idea and will be joining in with my boys!

myhobbyisouting · 13/12/2020 15:55

Oh god, the faux "I don't get what you mean 🤔"

Give over. You know exactly why you started the thread.

Why some people need to suck the joy out of everything is beyond me. My 6 year old can't bloody wait to jingle that bell and raise the Christmas spirit

I don't know how it'll get him any "Facebook likes" though as he isn't on there

DappledThings · 13/12/2020 15:56

The night before Xmas book (which we reuse)
Does anyone actually enjoy reading this? I never had it as a child so first encountered it when it was given to my DC this year. They asked for it a couple of times and it's just awful. It barely scans half the time and DS(4) is most put out by Santa being described as tiny on a tiny sleigh.

I'm delighted he's declared it "silly" and we can get rid of it. Genuinely baffles me that it's considered such a classic when it's so badly written.

Splodgetastic · 13/12/2020 15:58

Sounds a bit creepy. Probably some local pervert dreamt it up.

insancerre · 13/12/2020 15:59

I didn’t clap on my doorstep but I have spent all week making bells for the nursery children I work with
They have had a rubbish year and I think this is a lovely idea
I don’t really care what anyone else thinks
Nobody is forcing you to ring a bell

LisaLee333 · 13/12/2020 16:06

@HeronLanyon

Hang on !!! Father Christmas doesn’t need a bell !!! I’m not happy about this. I don’t think he will be either. Fir centuries he’s managed to arrive quietly and silently and magically. We don’t have anything to do with it. Ffs can’t we leave anything alone. Not even jesting - this is quite upsetting !!!
😂😂😂
HerbErtlinger · 13/12/2020 16:07

Oh I think it's sad that some people are so sneery, eye rolly and cynical over some kids ringing some bells on their doorstep on a magical night for them. Where's the harm? Nobody is obliged to do it. Live and let live.

Sounds wonderful! Grin

So nice to see/read, compared to some posts from a few miserable old curmudgeons on here! Wink

TempsPerdu · 13/12/2020 16:14

We didn’t do the NHS clapping as I found it fake and performative (and hypocritical in a lot of cases), but will do this - because it’s a bit of fun for the kids and not trying to be anything else.

Children have lost out massively this year and heaven knows we all need as much joy as we can muster at the moment.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/12/2020 16:34

Meh it’s a bit twee but I can’t get wound up by it.

Crunchymum · 13/12/2020 16:55

We have bells (not for this purpose) and I think the kids would quite like to do it but there doesn't seem to be any mention of it round here? So I'll either have to drum up support no way in Hell am I being the one to front this or we can stand out on our own like loners Grin

Its not even made the Y1 parents whatsapp group and they used to have countdowns each week to the clap Shock. I thought some of the parents would wet themselves to get this idea on the group... and take the kudos for "making Christmas magical" blah blah.

saraclara · 13/12/2020 17:10

@Crunchymum I'd do it anyway, even if you're alone. It's not like you share any other family Christmas traditions with your neighbours.

Unless you tell your kids to expect it, they won't expect that other people will be out there doing the same. They'll just know that they're calling santa with their bells.

mummy2oli · 13/12/2020 17:12

It’s to help spread Christmas cheer. After the year we have I’m all for it. I’m struggling to get my ds motivated for Christmas. Everything we would have done has been cancelled.

You're going to have to expand on this theory for me please?
LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 13/12/2020 17:56

It's another sentimental, American film inspired piece of old tosh!

I've gone one further with the Christmas eve box and have got personalised "good list" badges and a letter from FC to say he's been good and all kinds of extra shite that I've never done before. A fluffy hot water bottle, jingle bells and all sorts. Im so looking forward to it Grin (it's all things that will be used and reused until they fall apart, or turned into decorations or keepsakes etc)

We too will be doing jazzy hot chocolate and reindeer food and festive baking to leave out for Santa.

This year has been shit, it will make DS happy, which will make me happy. I can't wait

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 13/12/2020 18:03
@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise I'm so sorry for your loss Thanks
Thank you Flowers

Cam2020 · 13/12/2020 18:03

Just becasue people aren't enthusiastic about yet another stand on the doorstep performance, doesn't mean they don't participate in, or enjoy, any other Chrsitmas traditions! It's not all or nothing...

jerometheturnipking · 13/12/2020 18:06

Hold on while I fetch my bells Hmm

Fuck that. I didn't clap either.

jerometheturnipking · 13/12/2020 18:08

Would also like to add that I'm not a Grinch by any stretch of the imagination - we've had our decs up for 2 weeks already and I've done far more Christmassy stuff at home with the DC than I would normally do, just because it finally feels like something normal this year. But doorstep performances? Nah.

Soubriquet · 13/12/2020 18:10

....how?

Some kids standing on their own doorstep, more than likely supervised by their parents, ringing bells. How is that Percy?

Soubriquet · 13/12/2020 18:11

Pervy not Percy

Thanks AC Hmm

Sweettea1 · 13/12/2020 18:30

Don't like it don't do it simple I do wonder tho why does the thought of children being excited and showing they believe in the christmas magic by ringing a bell get you so annoyed?
