Yes, it's really happening 🙄

It's fine doing this early evening if people want to do it and little kids enjoy it, so long as it's not coerced.

Apprently we should do this at midnight on New Years eve too.

That would be antisocial, if it wasn't that inconsiderate people will be setting off fireworks.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 13/12/2020 13:35

sang "the drugs don't work." Really badly

Cheerful song choice..

Lockheart · 13/12/2020 13:35

I don't care if it's a few sleigh bells for a couple of minutes.

Extended car horns, pot banging, shouting and screaming, and in the case of someone across the road from me, banging her (metal) walking stick on the (metal) railings can fuck right off, however.

LisaLee333 · 13/12/2020 13:35

@Fatladyslim

I don't understand what the issue is. I am guessing you started this thread to win *cool girl of mumsnet' award. Its sooo edgy not to take part in things.
THIS. ^ Don't you just get so sick of the people who love to suck the fun out of popular and 'fun' things, and think they're all cool and edgy because they don't take part?

They are the most tedious and irksome of people. Probably put a bright glaring post on facebook too, declaring that they are not giving Christmas cards out this year, and are giving a donation to charity... yawwwnnn!

DappledThings · 13/12/2020 13:38

I don't think mine would as they're 12 and 10 now and it would probably be declared 'gay'

And do you pull them up on using gay as an insult?

Whiskyinajar · 13/12/2020 13:38

I can't wait to do this, we have several children in our street and they are looking forward to it.

SpudulikaSlob · 13/12/2020 13:38

@BeSureToDrinkYourOvaltine

Noooo!! It's my birthday, I don't want all the obnoxious neighbours clanging bells and saucepans about! You should have heard the fuckers with the clap for carers thing. Someone got a piece of metal and used it as a Wobble board, someone else had an actual GONG!! Someone played "we'll meet again" at frankly deafening volume and someone else set up an amp and a mic and sang "the drugs don't work." Really badly

And of course, there was the clapping and saucepan banging. Giving these people carte Blanche to ring bells will probably mean air horns and air raid sirens

I raise you an actual Police siren, on and off for five minutes, from a stationary car. I was amazed I could hear it over the air horns Angry
RhubarbAndMustard · 13/12/2020 13:40

Kids have missed out on so much this Christmas, Christ give them this!

I didn't think anyone would be so mean as the begrudge kids a small thing like this.

squashyhat · 13/12/2020 13:43

If nothing else the use of the word 'kiddies' would make me very unlikely to want to take part.

AuntieMarys · 13/12/2020 13:45

Big business on our local FB group. Somebody selling them for a fiver.

Ugh I hope so.
Soubriquet · 13/12/2020 13:46

It’s for little kids to have a bit of fun.

They can’t go to pantomimes, a lot can’t go and see Santa or their family, what’s wrong with them doing this?

If you don’t want to, don’t. But don’t be such a grinch about others doing it.

We are doing it and I’m looking forward to it

BiscuitDrama · 13/12/2020 13:48

I’m now worried that my quote isn’t very clear. Dappled was the one hoping the children were being pulled up on using ‘gay’ as an insult’. Not their kids who said it.

LagunaBubbles · 13/12/2020 13:49

Whats your problem with it OP? Young kids will enjoy it, why the sneery attitude?

curlycat · 13/12/2020 13:54

@shitinmyhandsandclap if you bothered to look at it properly you will find they are raising money for our local Maggie's Centre

shitinmyhandsandclap · 13/12/2020 13:54

Fatladyslim not associating the me not liking the thought of a santa bell ring with being cool 🤔

No advice really other than come off FB and chances are you won't even know about a lot of these community 'events' that bored people have thought up.

LemonBarley1234 · 13/12/2020 13:57

Some real miserable people about. Bet it's laugh a minute round at your house.

If you don't like it don't join in, but please try not to suck the joy out of things for everyone else

I got it, don't worry.

It's annoying that the quote feature doesn't maintain bolding.

HappyChristmasTreeRex · 13/12/2020 14:01

At least this is at a sensible time. The clap for carers used to wake my dd up each time, which after a long day was rather annoying to be honest. I think this is quite a sweet idea really, we used to ring a bell when I was little for Father Christmas, it just wasnt at such a set time.

Tingalingtortoise · 13/12/2020 14:01

I think it’s a lovely idea for the children, I honestly can’t believe how many miserable people there are. Where’s the sense of community? We will be doing it even though we don’t have any neighbours to hear it Grin

HappyChristmasTreeRex · 13/12/2020 14:01

Oh and we don't post on FB or anything so for us it's nothing to do with that.

nosswith · 13/12/2020 14:03

I think Carols from Kings College may be on tv at that time, will watch that and hope the neighbouring children haven't heard about this (probably only one is young enough to believe in FC anyway).
