What happens if you don't have a bell? Just go to your door and shout, "Dingalingaling!" at the top of your lungs?! Grin

I suppose it's nice and I've got nothing against those who do but I'll probably forget.

I didn't go out and clap for the NHS or do the 2 min silence on Remembrance Day either.

I’ve actually gone and bought little boxed polar express type bells especially for this. I’ve even got some elf letters that ask for my children to ring their bells for Santa.

saraclara · 13/12/2020 14:10

I didn't clap for carers and I normally hate this sort of thing.

But I will actually join in this. Remember that some kids will be isolating over Christmas. How crap will that be? If they can stand in their front doorway and ring bells (and see their neighbours doing similarly) that might really cheer them up.

I'm going to have to hand in my grumpy old fart card now.

Superstardjs · 13/12/2020 14:10

I was quite happy to be a grinch about this, but appears Alwayslatte has actually pissed me off far more with their acceptance of the casual homophobia from their children.

PinkiOcelot · 13/12/2020 14:12

I bought some bells for my niece. She’s nearly 3. She’s excited and loves her bells.

I don’t get the problem. At all.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 13/12/2020 14:17

Why not, if the children enjoy it? Harmless fun.

Oysterbabe · 13/12/2020 14:18

We've had quite a lot of this bollocks lately. Last week the neighbours were all out singing carols. We didn't do that and I doubt we'll do this.

RightOnTheEdge · 13/12/2020 14:21

AlwaysLatte

I don't think mine would as they're 12 and 10 now and it would probably be declared 'gay' .
What an embarrassing thing to admit! Do you not teach them this is really wrong? Shock

I was going to ignore the bell ringing thing but all the miserable Grinches have actually changed my mind and made me think it's a good idea! Xmas Smile

Almostslimjim there's a few of us on here lol

What a miserable bunch, if you don't see the point or like the idea just don't do it? I think it's sweet, DS is excited, this is the first year he has a concept of what is going on, and although he knows no different and is most excited about leaving a carrot out for Rudolph; he hasn't done nativity, we won't be seeing family, no Santa activities around here, even the garden centre with their decorations up are just doing click and collect this year. Yes, plenty of people have it worse, we are very fortunate, but if ringing a bell outside a house brings some excitement and joy for a minute for a child, then why be so fucking miserable about it? Just don't take part!

JamieLeeCurtains · 13/12/2020 14:34

The one person in my neighbourhood who clapped for Boris for about ten whole seconds before she fell over pissed will probably launch a rocket up into her own nostril, so probably worth watching.

I've bought some jingle bells specially, they will arrive in the Christmas eve box (another polarising MN subject!).

We recently lost our second baby boy at 21+4. His big brother is 4, we told him that our baby had gone to be an angel in among the stars. He knows that "every time a bell rings, an angel gets their wings". So he will be ringing a bell at 6pm on Christmas Eve so his little brother gets his angel wings and knows that it's Christmas Eve in heaven.

Beautiful3 · 13/12/2020 14:41

Thing is, if loads of people ring loud bells on xmas eve, children are going to look out of their windows to see! They will see adults making a racket! This is going to make them question that santas not real! Not a good idea, at all!

Snackasaurus · 13/12/2020 14:42

Some scrooges on here. If you don't like the idea, don't join in!

The kids will love it and after such an awful year, this will be a good way to spread the magic Smile

It's not supposed to be pretending to be Santa's sleigh bells.

HeronLanyon · 13/12/2020 14:48

Hang on !!! Father Christmas doesn’t need a bell !!! I’m not happy about this. I don’t think he will be either. Fir centuries he’s managed to arrive quietly and silently and magically. We don’t have anything to do with it.
Ffs can’t we leave anything alone.
Not even jesting - this is quite upsetting !!!

Fatladyslim · 13/12/2020 14:49

@shitinmyhandsandclap

Fatladyslim not associating the me not liking the thought of a santa bell ring with being cool 🤔
Yeah, course you don't Wink
winterbabythistime · 13/12/2020 14:50

@Beautiful3 you all go onto your doorstep together to ring the bells for Santa. It's not meant to be pretending it is Santa (afaik)

FuzzyPenguin · 13/12/2020 14:50

It’s really not my thing, however I have bought bells just in case for my DS6 if he sees or hears others doing it he will want to join in. There hadn’t been much going on that he can join in with this year so putting my feelings aside for this one so he can have some fun. I won’t be putting it on social media though

hansgrueber · 13/12/2020 14:50

I loved the year that the Space Station flew over at about 5.30, the grandchildren were so pleased to see FC in the sky and couldn't wait to go to bed!

winterbabythistime · 13/12/2020 14:50

@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise I'm so sorry for your loss Thanks

Soubriquet · 13/12/2020 14:51

The ringing of the bells is not to pretend to be Santa...

It’s to raise Christmas spirit so that his sleigh will fly

badpuma · 13/12/2020 15:01

We'll have been tracking Santa through NORAD from when everyone is awake. Mine are teenagers now so obviously don't believe but like the NORAD thing and watching Santa deliver presents to their cousins in Auckland.

Why if they've been tracking him for 13 hi s already would he suddenly stop flying when he gets to the UK?!

1forAll74 · 13/12/2020 15:03

If some numpties on FB think it's a good idea let them do it, some people generally behave like sheep, and will follow suit. Maybe it's because it's been a grim year, and they need to cheer people up in the streets. So more bells at New year too, and possibly a lot of sparkly , and noisy fireworks as well.
