To be unreasonably annoyed at Royals at the pantomime

Gigheimer · 11/12/2020 23:24

I post knowing I’m totally unreasonable (probably) and you’ll all shout but I got both angry and sad and rage at seeing the press stories of Kate and Wills at the pantomime in the West End.

I’m normally a fan, and of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids a pantomime.

But my kids don’t get that this year, no Santa experiences, no pantomime no fucking nothing because we are tier 3 and if our local pub or theatre ever open again I’ll die of shock.

But we are in the North so who gives a fuck right?

I just have the absolute unreasonable fury tonight.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow waking up to all this ‘woe is me, some areas going into tier 3.’ I’m usually a nice person but the different tiers has brought out the worst in me. I’m in the North West, we haven’t even been allowed in gardens for months. Wish it was the same tier for everyone, whether that’s horrible or not is easy to say for people who have had less restrictions for months. As someone upthread said, the very impression given is that unless it’s the South, nobody cares.

Time2change2 · 12/12/2020 09:41

@Playdoughcaterpillar

Anyone can buy tickets to that panto in London, I have. Sure there are others in tier 2 areas as well. Sorry you are in tier 3 OP but that’s hardly the royals fault.
And am I meant o get there by 2 hours of travelling in public transport? I am in the worst hit area for covid infections in the UK. Is it a good idea for me abs my school aged kids to travel out and get to London at the moment??
SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/12/2020 09:41

Maybe we should cancel everything everywhere so no one feels hard done by...

Spottybluepyjamas · 12/12/2020 09:42

I think the point of them being there was to be on an official engagement to thank key workers, while showing the public that it's safe to attend live performances if they're socially distant with strict measures in place.

There are still pantos and live performing arts happening all over the country (where people are confident that they can do it safely and people will actually attend), but they're not going to happen unless public confidence increases.

Sending the heirs to the throne is the perfect way to show that it can be done safely. If they hadn't brought the kids, people would have said that it wasn't safe enough to have them there.

Yes it's hard to watch others doing something when we can't, but they were working and in my opinion actually doing something which needed to be done (attempting to get the performing arts back on its feet, while expressing gratitude to key workers) and safely.

Time2change2 · 12/12/2020 09:44

@Eleganz

Surprised to hear people saying their are pantos in tier 3 areas. I presume these are open air productions?
Exactly!!? There are no performances at all in tier 3? If you are in tier 3 you really shouldn’t be taking your family out in tier 2 at the moment?? I thought that was understood?
Time2change2 · 12/12/2020 09:44

No, just don’t flaunt it on mainstream news in all its oppulance
PuffyChuff · 12/12/2020 09:45

They go where they are told to go. It would be odd to go to a pantomime and not take your small children

ineedaholidaynow · 12/12/2020 09:46

@Time2change2 it’s not the only panto that is on. We have taken DS to panto in previous years but have never travelled 2 hours to see one in London.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/12/2020 09:46

I don't know what.others meant, but I am in tier 2 in North so Pantos are on here. Just with lowered capacoty. Even some concerts

RoseAndRose · 12/12/2020 09:47

I don't think the Cambridges chose to 'flaunt' it

The National Lottery did that, or the company which was the recipient of the Lottery funding.

BefuddledPerson · 12/12/2020 09:47

@PicsInRed

Their courtiers are bizarrely out of touch with what's going on the ground and how the Royals are being perceived.

Arranging for them to attend a live Panto (yes, with a few keyworkers at a distance) whilst every other child in the country cant so much as do a school Christmas play, let alone Panto - what are they thinking?

Agree with this. The train journey was ill advised, as is this.

Not that I care if they are badly regarded, but I'm surprised as they usually try harder to pretend to care.

But there are no pantos anywhere near me!! I have taken my kids every year for many years

randomer · 12/12/2020 09:48

They are damned if they do,damned if they don't. Charlotte looks like she would rather be in her vest and pjs eating Haribo.

I'm not in tier 3 but fully understand how you feel.

Can't believe they are rolling out school testing for the south after months of high infections in northern schools Angry.

The government look a lot like dead northerners don't matter.

winterberries77 · 12/12/2020 09:49

Nothing unreasonable about being annoyed at the royals. Why people fawn over this family of leeches never fail to amaze me.

FindHungrySamurai · 12/12/2020 09:49

It’s largely a publicity exercise for theatres. There’s little point doing it if you can’t “flaunt” it on the news.

Zilla1 · 12/12/2020 09:51

It's getting like the Royals can't do anything nice for key workers, people in the Highlands and Sandringham without criticism.

FindHungrySamurai · 12/12/2020 09:51

Just to be clear, I think there are definitely legitimate grievances about the school testing thing, but moaning that K&W are doing something that most children in the country are able to do doesn’t seem reasonable.

Chickychickydodah · 12/12/2020 09:53

It’s not only the royals, on Instagram there is mrs hinch , Stacy Solomon , Sam faiers and many others going out shopping and spending time out and about with friends and family.
I’m in tier 3 and all I want to do is have an hour or 2 with my family 😡

Joynot · 12/12/2020 09:54

Ffs- they didn’t organise a performance just for the Royals

Fuckertyfuckmcfuck · 12/12/2020 10:01

I don't think they would have had a choice
When you say the south do you mean just London?
I'm in the south tier 3 and its certainly no bed of roses

that's completely different, they are private individuals.

The royal family's only point is allegedly to represent us and this country.

Gigheimer · 12/12/2020 10:01

My rage has calmed a little this morning so I feel a bit guilty about kicking this one off! But I have taken some advice to look at pantos and things to do here and it’s just depressing “we are live streaming x, get the kids with you in the computer”, “watch our video of the lights being turned on!”.

Soul destroying.

Only to the hard of thinking. The royals only go to freshly-scrubbed, freshly-painted places with heavy security at the best of times. They have land mines made safer than safe for them to PR walk through.

Befuddled Person

Don’t know how to quote but thank you. I’m a teacher so I’m probably fed up in general and the school testing for the South has really affected me more than anything recently.
Luckily my school and my children’s school aren’t taking the extra inset on Friday. Thinking of everyone who has it a lot harder than I do, especially those on their own x
